Why didn't Korea recruit Japanese idols During the Hallyu wave?

For a while, there really weren't many--or any Japanese idols at all. Even now, the only high-profile idols are from Twice's J-line.

 

Why is this? They recruited a ton of Chinese idols but even when Japan was more lucrative, they just never bothered with Japanese.

I think only wealthier japanese people could afford korean training, or certainly lack of interest because being a japanese idol >>> korean idol tbh.

Culture differences; More money in Japan; easier than Korea adjustments; companies not recruiting eagerly enough; pure luck per individual.

But honesty speaking I've thought on this myself. It's possible that racial tension could have played a role, but during the "golden era" of the hallyu wave in Japan I'm sure there would have been opportunities for recruitment. It's possible that after the kpop scene started to see tensions in the media that the recruits left to join other local agencies. Who really knows..

 

BUT maybe we'll start to see more idols come out from Japan considering the J-trinity seem to be doing okay.

China had no idol system while Japan did, so there was a reason for the Chinese to go to Korea but the same couldn't be said for Japan.

1. They did. Sana, Mina and Momo are a direct result of the Hallyu Wave.

 

2. Japan has a bigger music industry so there's less incentive for Japanese kids to move to Korea to start a career.
