Practically speaking it's way more financially efficient if SM invests resources into debuting a new gg that can take over SNSD's popularity at this point. A new gg that can potentially be bigger than SNSD and bring in the cashflow for another decade. SNSD members are getting older and it's more beneficial for them to develop their own careers rather than cling to the gg idol life. Logically looking at it SM's goal is not focused on upholding their status as the most popular gg. There's a very slim chance that SM will put a lot of effort into their next comeback and if anything it will just be a gift or the fans.

They just released Sailing 0805 in August and have started preparation for their 10th anniversary.
