What do you know about Jpop?

I probably don't know much about jpop anymore. I lost track of it once Johnny's stopped letting me listen to KAT-TUN and Hey! Say! Jump! on youtube... but if Johnny's Ent groups were still easy to listen to I'd probably be stanning a group or 2... I used to stan kattun hardcore... I miss it tbh. I watched the entirety of kat-tun's variety talk show online. I remember fangirling so hard during Hyde's episode... At least I have my BTS!  :ahmagah:

I was in jpop first before kpop and I see it as a mine filled with varying jewels. Whatever I want jpop has it, whether it be boy or girl groups, mixed groups, sentimental soloists, dance soloists, cute, high school, rock, edm, techno, vocoloids or my strong female singers. Name a concept or a feeling that I want and JPOP has a someone out there doing it. Only thing is to dig and find which jewel I want.

Even though I only listen to less than 5 of these artists/groups, I only know about Utada Hikaru, Namie Amuro, Ayumi Hamasaki, LDH groups, AKB48 and their subgroups, Ayaka, Ayaka Hirahara, Kalafina, Fictionjunction, Johnny's groups like Arashi and KAT-KUN (though they don't exist anymore), YUI, Morning Musume, Ai Otsuka, Perfume, and C-UTE. I also know Fujita Maiko but idk if you would classify her as a j-pop artist or another genre. A lot of the jpop artists I like used to sing for anime or j-drama OSTS. The J-idol industry seems to be more strict than the k-idol industry, especially with their dating ban, and a lot of idol groups seem to have a rotation system. The LDH group Dream isn't the same Dream that sang one of the Inuyasha theme songs back when I was a young teen because none of the members back then are in the group anymore. Morning Musume has also gone through lineup changes, and I believe so has AKB48 and their subgroups. With the exception of After School and perhaps a few other groups I don't know about, a rotation/graduation concept doesn't work in kpop because of how invested fans get.

Ayumi Hamasaki

Utada Hikaru

Namie Amuro

I used to think that BoA is Jpop oops :hurr:

lmao I did too. Though technically her Japanese songs do fall under j-pop.
