Someone explain. Why is overwatch considered a "good game" and a possible (highly possible GOTY)

Please explain. Those of you that are die hard fans. I'm lost to say that i don't know why is so popular (got to the point where i had to question my own uncle who's normally not a gamer but when he plays I'm just like o.O)

I played it on ps4 with my cousin who's a die hard fan off it who plays it on PC. But i just don't understand how is it so popular.

I've heard so many mixed reviews on over watch. Some say it's amazing, others say it's shit. I wanted to but it, but I'm scared I will hate it

I'm scared to be honest. It play almost like Call of duty in a way and seeing so many people hype. I'm just like urm....

because even 9MUSES loves to play Overwatch

LINK? SOURCE!?

because Blizzard made it. Everything they make is overhyped to shit.

but that isn't everything. I know diablo it's an aright game. Not many people are hype for it when it first came out.

people think it's shit just because it's hyped a lot

it's a good game and really fun

But it's like another genetic shooter. Played the open beta and it just ugh.

because it's fun. the cast is diverse, every character is interesting and has a cool skill set, the game modes are fun, the cosmetics are all great, the maps are amazing, the game has only been out 4 months and we've already gotten 2 new characters, new game modes, a halloween and olympic event, and a new map is coming out next month. they're constantly patching to make characters better or make overpowered characters not as good. the animations are good, the pseudo-science is good, the story is interesting. there's a reason they have 20 million worldwide players after 4 months. it's just straight up fun to play and fun to watch.

i would strongly recommend the game to anyone who enjoys fps. $40 gets you the game with every character and every map and literally every update for the rest of the game's duration is free after one purchase. overwatch is the first pvp game i've spent this much time on since like 2008.

and idk what game you played but it's literally nothing like call of duty bar theyre both first person and you shoot stuff lol. not even remotely close. if anything the most apt comparison is Team Fortress 2 and even then it's way more in depth.

noo its def not another generic shooter. i hate shooters but i like overwatch because it requires a lot more than just aim (which is good for me because my aim sucks lol). i think the variety of play styles is what helps make it enjoyable for so many different people. like personally im not interested in getting kills and stuff, i'd rather help out my team in other ways so i play support heroes. i think its a great game but not goty

It's an FPS game, but the characters have specific "skills and roles" that will change the mechanics of each game in order to fulfill your objectives. I love the story too~ I don't play FPS games because I don't like them - but Overwatch is another story because it doesn't really feel like all the other FPS games out there.

is nice to see that the events are there. But how can character be interesting when you don't have a story mode. I'm a fan of shooters. Love BioShock. Gears of war. Mass effect, doom, duke nukem (the old ones) borderland. But i can't see any of that in overwatch. All you do is shoot, support, run around, capture. That's it.

i just don't understand that part. All you do is support? Is there anything that's unique? Bad company had that ages ago. Revive someone. Fix cars. Heal.

How can you enjoy a story when there's no story mode. I'm sorry but where is that aspect? That's just me though.

the story is revealed through characters ineractions, but there's also cinematic shorts which are amazing, and a comic. the characters have distinct personalities exhibited through their in game lines.

mass effect is my favorite game series ever and I've played it over 1k hours at least, so I can definitely see what you mean, and a pvp game will definitely struggle to get THAT level of depth in their relationships and characterization. but what is in game is interesting and engaging enough to make people want to watch the cinematics and read the comics. I know a lot of casual players who have done both bc the characters in game are that interesting.

here's an example of one of the cinematics, I strongly recommend you watch it and relate it to the fact that these two characters are seen in just about every game.

and as for your healer question, there's a wide range of supports in overwatch. one is a tradition single target heal with a res and a damage boost. another is anot aoe healer with a speed boost, huge shied, and he can also wall ride and has incredible mobility. another is a high damage low hp support that gives heals and then debuffs the enemy. another support is a healing sniper with anti-heal grenade and a huge state buff as an ult. every character in the game is distinctly different from others and I'd even say some characters are very very uncommon ideas in video games.

Because the game isn't really meant for story mode? It's not RPG, just PvP, more like the MOBAs. The story is just the "background" of the characters. For someone like me who's working and gets bored in what I'm working on sometimes, I hop into Overwatch for a quick play. It's probably not a game for everyone but it certainly has appealing aspects. I personally would not want for it to have a story mode. I don't get much pressure playing Overwatch to be honest. I just enjoy the game, do my thing, and capture the objectives - unlike other games which will like force you to invest lots of time into it in order to progress.

After watching that cinematic scene I take back what I say about the lack of story. That was one deep scene. Well I was not comparing Mass effect to overwatch as their both on two different grounds. Didn't spend enough time playing on the PS4 version when it was free, might have to give it another shot.

I can see where your coming from. Hmm considering everything is just there already..

i'm glad you liked the cinematic! there's a lot of them and they all tell a small part of the story of overwatch. they all take place on the maps you play on in game as well.

I'm more in love with those videos *.* The lore behind it though. Hmm I'm still hesitate of picking it up but seeing there's even a new character. It just means more to learn. Hmm.

I can understand some people saying that is shit because if you think about it there is nothing original to it except for the maps.Your usual game-modes, heroes (the design of some it's kinda unique but nothing special in my opinion). At the end of the day everybody knows that Blizzard is known for just "stealing" concepts from everywhere than make it better and hype their games resulting in everybody buying their games or paying subscriptions and I am one of them.. I played OW since Beta but I am getting really bored from it. I started playing Paladins and tbh I am enjoying alot more than when I first started OW, that card system make's the game so much different and they are making constant updates almost every week.Slowly but surely I'll lose interest in OW.

Hmm so is it really worth much considering the fact they stole most of it. The cinematic looks really nice but is it worth spending hard earned cash just to play it? I might only get it if it ever drop down in price but currently like you said. I'm still not convinced it is.

In my opinion the game it's not worth 60$ ! Not to mention it also has ingame-transactions to buy boxes for skins voices etc. (to have this in a 60$ game for me personaly it's bullshit ). You can get some decent fun from it in the beggining, but you will get bored with it because there is nothing new just your typical FPS nothing new except for maps and characters that's why I already got bored of it and started playing Paladins (it has more diversity). You should try Paladins it's free to play on steam , it became the 3rd most popular free to play game on steam on day one after release(it's still in open beta). They have updates almost every week and the game is more balanced than OW tbh plus the developers listen to the whole community on their forums and they talk with people.
