Why do some KPOP fans insist that KPOP is far more popular than JPOP

Many kpop fans seem to think that KPOP has overtaken JPOP and that its far more superior?

Japan is still the 2nd biggest music industry in the world. If KPOP were to be bigger then why would so many of your KPOP faves try to make it Japan? KPOP groups can't sell the amount JPOP acts can as well?

I fail to see a KPOP act that can sell the amount AKB48 can?

Kpop is more popular than Jpop. It's quite obvious.

I can see people walking around with EXO, BIGBANG, SNSD, BTS and etc. paraphernalia and never Jpop (however I will see lots of anime stuff). Plus Youtube views and lots of Kpop acts having concerts overseas with thousands in attendance.

The thing with Jpop is that although it is not as popular as Kpop globally, it does not need to be. Japan has the second largest music market in the world. So it's not like they need the popularity of Kpop anyway.

Where do you live? As I know, that popularity that you talk about is pretty much regional. In my country nobody heard of both.

Cause in reality, KPOP does have more international fans. Although I do think there are more JPOP international fans than most think, most of us are just closet fans tho ._.

But that still doesn't change the fact that JPOP makes more $$$. And I don't mean anything bad by this, but in terms of Youtube views, I know I have friends who like KPOP things on facebook so I see them all the time, but there are always comments begging people to refresh their tabs to increase views on their favorite groups. I know this isn't for every group, but I'm just saying I do see that.

jpop seems like it'll only do well within asia. I mean 40+members?? international people complain of 7 members being too many to remember. No wonder Jpop is less popular globally  :derp:

One Ok Rock, BabyMetal, Utada Hikaru and Perfume.

I still, don't understand from where this idea come from. I know, kpop has very big united and very loud fandom, which creates the illusion of being so popular, but it mostly on the internet. It doesn't mean that there less international jpop fans in general. I acctually, seen alot of people that talk about kpop, but it feels like they by themself don't really know what it is, only because it sort of trendy...

If we exlude Japan and Korea for kpop, then the internatinal sales are going to be very low, but should we also exlude the accual ability getting succes from international fandom? Then, what we left with? We left with overall recognition and in general bragging.

Jpop is only popular in Japan. It's not as accessible as kpop, internationally, and doesn't even try/need to be.

AKB48? I'm sure all of them, individually, make much more than G-Dragon.  :imstupid:

I'm failing to see where most Jpop acts sell as much as AKB48.

That not true actually, there decent number of acts with international recognition.

Considering how 'big' the Japanese market is, there's not many. There's some with recognition amongst anime/gaming fans, sure, but that's what it's limited to. It's okay, because they're not really trying to be accessible to international fans.

Lol you seem very uninformed, let me educate you.

First of all, Japan is the second biggest Music Industry in the World, right after the US. There is a lot of money to be made in Japan for the right people, why do you think legendary Kpop Groups/Soloists (such as TVQX and BoA) spend most of their time in Japan? because thats where the money is! Being a successful musician in Japan sets you for life.

Other than Koreans, other Asian Music Industries don't even bother branching out and gaining I-Fans because in reality, Int Fans aren't going to bring anywhere near as much revenue as Regional Success if you live in a country with a Major Music Industry that generates millions upon millions yearly.

Would Rihanna make a Japanese Album for instance? NO she wouldn't, because she doesn't need too, the same goes for Japan, if they wanted to breach out Internationally, they could but they choose not too, it's not marketable enough.

100mil Youtube Views isn't something they remotely need, and YT isn't even viewed in Japan very much at all.

Funny how you only name AKB48, showing your complete lack of knowledge.

Don't forget about Queen Namie Amuro, Queen Hikaru Utada, Arashi, Ayumi Hamasaki, Kyary Pamyu, Morning Musume, EXILE, Kumi Koda, Perfume, Kana Nishino, Baby Metal, GLAY, SMAP, B'z etc who are making more than your faves ever could.

In fact Ayumi Hamasaki's net worth alone is 70 million+ and Namie is worth over 100million
