How can a group win Artist of the Year without winning Best Male/Female Group too?

Everyone else has pretty much answered it. Company's won't bother sending their artists overseas if they aren't going to win an award. But I remember I said this last year. It's like if people tell you you're the number one student in your entire school but you're not even the number one student in your class. There's no logical sense behind it.

I see people saying that EXO should win Artist of the Year while BTS should win Best Male Group. But doesn't it only make sense that if they're the top artist of the year, they're also the top in their specific category?

I'm not saying whether EXO or BTS should win. I'm saying I think that it's most logical if whoever wins AoTY - whether that be EXO, BTS, Twice, GFriend, or whoever - also wins the Best Male/Female Group Category.

For example, the 2015 results don't make sense to me.

2015 Artist of the Year: Big Bang

2015 Best Male Group: EXO

If Big Bang is the top artist of the year, then how are they not also the top male group??

I don't follow awards closely, so let me know if there's some piece of information that I'm missing that explains it all.

Here are years prior to 2015. Most win both AoTY and their specific category.

2014 Artist of the Year: EXO

2014 Best Male Group: EXO

2013 Artist of the Year: G-Dragon

2013 Best Male Artist: G-Dragon

2012 Artist of the Year: Big Bang

2012 Best Male Group: Big Bang

2011 Artist of the Year: SNSD

2011 Best Female Group: SNSD

2010 Artist of the Year: 2NE1

2010 Best Female Group: 2NE1

2009 Artist of the Year: 2PM

2009 Best Male Group: 2PM

2008 Artist of the Year: Big Bang

2008 Best Male Group: Big Bang

2007 Artist of the Year: Super Junior

2007 Best Male Group: Big Bang

2006 Artist of the Year: TVXQ

2006 Best Group: TVXQ

To make sure everybody has a prize and reason for attending, no matter how illogical it might look since nobody watches award shows for the logic over the performances.

More or less this~ They tend not to like giving too many awards to a single group~

But if you look under the spoiler, most people have won both in past years.

Not to mention Big Bang has won a bunch of times

I saw, I mean per year, regarding BB winning a bunch of times~

I get what you mean, but MNet just seems like they don't want one group winning everything, LOL~

Like the last time they were like "okay, that's enough BB. you don't get both anymore"? lol I guess that's a possibility
