Monday’s episode of “How I Met Your Mother†on CBS continued an ongoing joke about a slap bet between Marshall and Barney. In order to win the bet, and give the best slap to Barney, Marshall explains he learned the “Slap of a Million Exploding Suns†by seeking wisdom from three great masters.

It turned out these supposed wise ones were played by Marshall’s friends — Colbie Smulders, Josh Radnor and Alyson Hannigan — in yellowface. People went to Twitter with #HowIMetYourRacism to takedown the episode.

The apology seemed decent for a change I guess.  :derp:

I can see how they didn't think it was going to be problematic because

it was meant to satirize kung fu movies and was written to include

Marshall's friends (so therefore no need for real Asian actors).

Unfortunately it still offended people and probably could've been handled

differently to truly come across as satirical.

Still love this show though... :(

at least they apologize it neatly and sincerely

though as part Asian myself i'm not that offended by it?...

and still dying at Ted's supposed to be name

Right? I wasn't offended by it at all. It was pretty clear that it was a satire on martial art film cliches and tropes. The first glimpse of it caught me off guard, but it became quickly obvious what they were doing. And to help, it had the sensei in the beginning and Barney wtfing the 'tale' the entire episode. It's true HIMYM does skeevy jokes, but this is one instance where the extreme criticism isn't warranted.
