The morning of the 16th, Sangamdong CJ E&M Center. It’s filled with excitement. As the seven boys go up on stage, there are exclamations of awe coming from here and there. Everyone’s exclamations were different, but all the facial expressions were the same. The girls with their mouths half open couldn’t keep their eyes off of every single movement.

Those who caught their stares. Who are they? It’s not Do Minjoon, an alien, or an action star. It’s ‘GOT7’ that just debuted on Mnet ‘M!Countdown’. JYP’s rising stars received attention since the prerecording.

 

 

Wait one moment, it’s time to introduce ‘GOT7’. A rookie boy group that ‘JYP Entertainment’ has released for the first time in six years. There are seven members. Out of those, three of them are foreigners. It’s made up of leader JB, Mark(USA), Jackson(Hong Kong), BamBam(Thailand), Yugyeom, Youngjae, and Jr.

The day of their broadcast debut. They went through an enormous schedule. Not just the prerecording, but interviews and filming of a teaser video and signing…. they went through a tight schedule without a moment to rest. At this level, they should have dark circles under their eyes and loss of energy.

 

 

The 7 boys are so so bright. They are like ‘energizers’ that showed off staminas of steel. There isn’t a single sign of exhaustion as they easily pull off interviews, and dancing as well. They actually go around sharing beverages with staff while encouraging them to have strength.

GOT7’s first broadcast. We wonder how that day was. ‘STARCAST’ followed them.

â–¶Prerecording : On the scene of their ‘MCD’ prerecording. Before the song starts, they have a meeting. They discuss and discuss with serious faces under the direction of leader JB. They must have done this an endless number of times together while they were trainees, but it must feel different for the actual stage.

Ah, you don’t know their names yet? There’s nothing to worry about. They have courteous name tags. GOT7 showed up on this day with giant name tags. It was to let their names be known, as well as to check their arrangements for their choreography. Their name tags and faces, can you match them?

The first point to watch to enjoy GOT7 is ‘martial arts tricking’. It’s incredible flying. ‘Martial arts tricking’ is a genre that is a hybrid of martial arts movements such as kicking and turning along with b-boying style. It’s GOT7’s secret weapon.

▶Teaser filming : They easily film for a teaser as well. It’s a short amount of time but they quickly pick up the content and introduce it skillfully. The atmosphere gets brighter and brighter. Who would say that this is a group that finished a prerecording? They spurt out energy that can’t be held in.

 

GOT7’s foreign language abilities are especially brought to light here. They provide explanations in English and Chinese. Jackson, who is from Hong Kong, and Mark, who is from the US, play active roles in this. They really show off the skills of native speakers. They also show the sense of fixing parts that weren’t smooth in the script.

â–¶Interviews : They are rookies that just debuted but interviews rushed in. They go through interviews while switching locations quickly. They repeat their introductions endlessly. It seems like it wouldn’t be enough even if they each had ten bodies and ten mouths.

 

♪ Don’t even know how many they’ve had today. What do we do with this popularity that doesn’t know how to die down~

The awkwardness of rookies? We couldn’t find it. They actually seemed very relaxed. They answered skillfully and cracked jokes as well. Even high-fiving a writer during the broadcast. GOT7, their skills are no joke.

â–¶Proof of eating : Eating comes first when it comes to a debut, as well. Food is a necessity for GOT7 that are at the peaks of their growth right now. They stop by their waiting room to gain endurance through food. But what is this? There are pretty lunch boxes piled up. This is ‘fan support’.

 

GOT7 seem surprised when they enter the waiting room. Maknae BamBam asks to the hyungs what ‘support’ is. He seems to be in a good mood as he ‘lululala’s. But it’s not easy. Because they are rookies, they use the smallest waiting room. They can’t all sit down and eat.

Here’s another point to watch. They release proof shots.

GOT7, they take proof shots of their lunch boxes. They say that they have to express their thanks to the fans that gave them the gifts. Maybe it’s because they had food, but the atmosphere has gotten even brighter. The images of boys that have filled their vigorous appetites. Yes. They really show their cute charms.

â–¶Makeup : There was no curse of the mirror. GOT7 overwhelmed the mirrors with their perfect visuals. They shined even if just slightly touched with makeup. At this level, they could’ve even admired their own visuals, but no such comments were heard.

 

The atmosphere was very friendly. They didn’t stop talking while getting their makeup done. They also kept saying thank you to the stylist. Even having the sense to shoot a V at the camera. Really showing their skillfulness.

â–¶Sign time : Right before their live performance, GOT7 are still busy. This time, their hands are busy. Their debut albums came out on this day. They are signing CDs to give to their music industry sunbaes. Included are surprise letters. They present precious messages to sunbaes that they have always looked up to.

Their individuality shows even in their signatures. If there is someone that has a shining star at the end of his (Yugyeom), there is also someone that draws a cute picture (Youngjae). Doesn’t this look like a work of art when it’s all together like this? Their signatures that cleverly avoided the ‘GOT7’ logo in the middle…

[OSEN=Lee Hye Rin] A boy group that is released in 6 years after 2PM from JYP Entertainment with an average age of 20. They have differentiated themselves by presenting Martial Arts Tricking, which is known to be lot more difficult than acrobatics, which was 2PM’s primary weapon. They are the secret weapon from JYP that will compete with EXO from SM, the group that became the hottest trend last year.
 
GOT7, a new boy group made up of 7 members, is worthy to get high anticipation and interest with these few sentences alone. They have really made themselves memorable among the fans of their age with brilliant things to watch and outstanding looks in their debut stage that was presented last week. With a group full of masculinity that emerged in such a long time, there are already more than 10 love calls for advertisements.
 
“The debut song ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ is a hip hop based song that people can listen to in a comfortable way along with the beat and the groove. It does not randomly shout in high pitch but more you listen to it, the more it repeatedly plays in the head and that is the charm of the song. At first, we did not understand very well with just the guide song that only had the voice of Park Jin Young, but after we recorded the song with our voices, I thought that this is the ‘right’ one.†(Jr.)








"We took lots of lessons for this song. Especially, the charm comes from an attitude that looks a little bit arrogant and I practiced a lot to give off that arrogant vibe. Just because of the word swagger, I tried it over 10 times. The current version is the song that I sang thinking ‘Eh, whatever.â€(JB)
 
JYP is known to be professional in soul music and this song is much more unique as it is the hip hop song that JYP released. However, the members described that since they like hip hop so much in first place, they did not have hard time pulling off the song.
 
“The artists we each like are all different, but it is all based on hip hop. In my personal opinion, I think Park Jin Young also had our own colors in mind. During the trainee end-of-the-month evaluation, the songs we performed the most were hip hop songs. It seems like the song ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ came out after he saw our styles.†(Jr.)
 
Martial Arts Tricking, the unique weapon of GOT7, is a dance that combines martial arts movements and Mark and Jackson are especially experts out of all members. All the other members are also above average except Youngjae, who joined the team at a much later time. With a question that asks whether it is harder than 2PM’s acrobatics, the eyes of the members gets big and round.








"It cannot be compared. (Laugh) It is much more difficult. We turn once while spinning and we turn few more laps in the middle of the air. It is really hard. Since 2PM members can do acrobatics movement, we also learned it together but we suggested doing Martial Arts Tricking from that. The original members practiced for about 2 years. Mark and Jackson are perfect when it comes to couple movements. I confidently guarantee that we are above average overall.†(JB)
 
Yugyeom have a case of breaking his ankle while learning these movements 2 years ago. Since it is the primary weapon that they learned in a tough way, the pride of the members is relatively strong.
 
“We know that we will not easily be successful even from the 1st album. However, our goal is to definitely show our colors. I hope to show a perfect performance someday after a steady growth. (JB)â€
 
JB and Jr. will especially understand the fact that it is not easy to be successful. They ambitiously made debut as the duo group JJ Project 2 years ago but they realized that the pop field is not easy and returned to the status of trainees again and persevered. There were similar cases in other agencies also but the break time lasting for 2 years is not that common. 










"People asked many times. JJ Project is not coming back again? I was afraid of listening to such questions so all I did was to practice in the practice room. I tried with all my might with a mind that I will come back again after putting lots of effort.†(Jr.)
 
"I just focused on my school life. Whenever my friends asked such questions, I told them ‘Just do your homework’. (Laugh) I tried really hard thinking that this is the 2nd debut.†(JB)

The rest of the members joined GOT7 with different reasons and different ways. Mark was casted while he was attending school in America. Mark, who has U.S citizenship, came to Korea only with a thought of wanting to become a singer.
 
"I came to Korea in 2010 and it has been 3 years and 6 months now. I especially put lots of effort on Martial Arts Tricking, There are still lots of high level movements to show.†(Mark) 









The youngest member Yugyeom, who is born in 1997, dreamed of becoming a singer by watching performances of BIGBANG since he was little. He was attending dance school after the video of him dancing ‘Shock’ by BEAST when he was in the 1st year of middle school got positive reactions online and he had an opportunity to audition for JYP.
 
Youngjae, who is from Mokpo, was going to practical music school and joined GOT7 after he passed JYP closed audition. He is a vocal who is dreaming of becoming a music therapist so he is currently learning dancing after he joined the group.
 
BamBam, who is from Thailand, can be said that he became the member of GOT7 because of the singer Rain. His way of speaking Korean clearly is pretty cute.
 
“My mom was the fan of Rain. I also became a fan after watching the concert, music video and drama. So, I started dancing and got to know JYP also. I auditioned when I heard that JYP audition will take place in Thailand and it has been three years since I came to Korea. It became lots of support as Nichkhun gave me lots of positive comments.†(BamBam)
 










He said that his mother even runs the Korean food restaurant as his mother likes Korean culture. Now, he gets to meet Rain in the music broadcast station, so his feeling must be new and different.
 
Jackson, who is from Hong Kong, became the singer even with the opposition from his parents in an athlete family. His father was a fencing player on a national team and mother was a gymnastics player on a national team and Jackson was also playing fencing.
 
"My parents were both in China’s national teams. My father got the gold medal in Asian Game in 1978 and my mother was the world champion in 1982. I also played fencing for 7~8 years. Then, I got the opportunity to audition for JYP while I was playing basketball at school. I passed the audition but my parents were both opposing. My dad jokingly said that he will send me to Korea once when I became the best in Asia but 4 months later, I got 2 gold medals in Asia Junior Competition. So, I was able to come to Korea in July 2011.†(Jackson)
 
With life as trainees that nobody knows when it is going to end, the members abroad must have found it tough. About the toughest part, Jackson chose Korea’s Hyung (Older brother)-Dongsaeng (Younger brother) culture. 










"I did not understand hyung and dongsaeng kind of a thing. Why do I have to call them hyung when they are only a year older than me? However, I just got used to it eventually. (Laugh)†(Jackson)
 
"It was tough as it was hard to communicate with people, but since there were considerable amount of Korean people who came from America, I got used to it while communicating with them.†(Mark)
 
"Back then, there were more friends from overseas in the practice room. I thought I was studying abroad. (Laugh) I think Korean kids would have been much lonelier. However, everyone tried hard to get used to Korea. Their Korean really improved quickly and they also eat well. Everyone likes meat and sushi. Mark likes fermented bean soup.†(Jr.)
 
Since the team is made up of many nationalities and everyone’s personality is cheerful, it seems like that they are the team who has lots to show even when they are not on the stage. The members also said “As men, we have to become the best and then die†and showed their determined resolutions.

It depends on how it's styled I guess... I like it was it's spiked up and messy, but it's horribad when it's all neat and tidy.  But tbh... I probably would hate it's guts if it wasn't on Jr... so I don't know if I'm biased, or he can pull anything off for me.  I also have an obsession with his smile/laugh.

Q: What is the meaning of GOT7? 
JB: First of all, it means there are 7 members. Also, 7 is the a ‘lucky number’. So, ‘7 people with good luck’ (7 people that’s GOT luck) 

Q: Mark is from America, Jackson is from HongKong, BamBam is from Thailand. But BamBam is a unique name.
BamBam: It’s a name my mom gave me. There’s this famous cartoon called ‘The Flintstones’. The main character’s friend’s son’s name is Bambam. He’s a son but his strength is really strong. My mom wants me to have be strong like him so she gave me the name.

Q: It(the group’s name) also reminded people of the group g.o.d.
JB: I heard that a lot before. If saying it in Korean, ‘god’ and ‘got’ sound the same ‘갓’, so there were misunderstandings. But ‘g-o-d’ and ‘g-o-t’ are different.

Q: Bambam received compliments from Yang Hyunsuk on Win.
Bambam: I was tired so my mind went blank at that time. Later after debut, if we meet, I want to say ‘Thank you’ to him again.

Q: 2PM are called ‘Beast-dols’. What does GOT7 want to be called?
Jackson: Korean-American(or foreign?) oppas? (Gyopo)
Other members: Ehh that doesn’t sound cool.

Youngjae: Ever since I was young, I always enjoyed singing with my older brother. After hyung goes to the army, when I was singing alone I thought 'Can't I do more than this?' then I started going to music practical school in Mokpo. While I was learning singing there, hyung got discharged(from the army) and he kept singing, now he is a vocal trainer. Then I thought 'I wish I can have a song that people know' and wanted to become a singer, one day, after finishing at the school, JYP private audition was held. I started training for a month after that audion, then another 6 months before I debuted in GOT7. I was always singing ballad when I was training.

GOT7 HK member; Jackson interview. JYP trainee Jackson was a Hong Kong fencing member, but becoming a singer was his greatest dream. In order to chase the dream, his father made a deal with him saying unless you become Asian’s best fencer, you’re allowed (to chase your dream of being a singer). Jackson worked really hard on his fencing skills and ultimately became Asia Youth Fencing Championship.

[STARCAST] "Are you guys sh, shocked and confused?â€â€¦JYP, snack store raid incident

 

 

 

 

 

On January 18th, ‘Green Factory’ has been completely turned inside out. JYP family has raided the snack store located on the 4th floor of ‘NAVER’ private company building. Is the general manager of this day Jackson from ‘GOT7’? Everybody shouted “Thank you, Jacksonâ€. Everyone becoming one when it comes to snacks, it is funny.

 

JYP Family has come together. It was to participate in ‘JYP Nation star chatting ‘that aired in live through ‘NAVER LINE’. Just looking at the cast members makes to have mouths ‘wide open’. Including Yenny from Wonder Girls, there are Wooyoung and Nichkhun from ‘2PM’, miss A, Baek A Yeon, Choi Woo Shik and the rookie ‘GOT7’.

 

The start of the snack store raid incident was ‘Telepathy’ game. Jackson and Youngjae from ‘GOT7’ came in last place. With ‘rock, scissor, paper’ to find out the final loser, Jackson was chosen. Punishment is still a punishment even to newly created idol group. Everyone, go to the snack store. 

 

 

"A Yeon and Youngjae, only 1 question1…."

"Youngjae won! Jackson is chosen"

The truth is, JYP artists are not someone who ‘Rely on somebody else and makes them tired by being a burden to them’ (A quote from My Love From the Star). However just on this day, they are giving pressure to a rookie Jackson, whom it has been only 4 days since the debut. But, it looks like they cannot get happier than this.

 

 

 

 

The happiest group was miss A. Suzy picked the snack, Jia picked something to drink, Fei picked the ice cream and Min headed to the beef jerky aisle. They chose snacks without hesitation. Them with no worries at all, it seems like we see them like this in such a long time.

 

Suzy was a really kind advertisement model. As soon as she saw the item that she advertises, she posed right at the spot. She held the potato chip first and shouted “Suzy also likes the potato chipâ€. Afterwards, she held the drinking vitamin C drink and sang “It is too kindâ€.

How would ‘GOT7’ been doing? It is literally team kill. Whether they knew what Jackson was thinking or not, they willingly met the god of spending. Whenever members chose the snacks, Jackson shouted “Oh, oh my~â€, which is the phrase from their debut song ‘Girls Girls Girls’.

 

Moreover, BamBam even chose the flip flop that he was going to use in the house. Everyone enjoyed shopping without spreading apart. The nickname ‘Beagle idol’ really matched them. They refrained from more shopping for Jackson, but Jr. seemed like that he is thinking it is not enough. He headed to the register while sticking his mouth out.

Finally, the shopping is over. Starting from the least of 1000 won ice cream to the most of 4000 won flip flops, various items are passing through the register. The total amount was 153,070 won.

 

Jackson’s facial expression slowly darkened. It seems like that his mouth was getting so dry as he was keep biting his lips. He was just kept touching the wallet in his pants. Right at that moment, someone is coming from far away. It is the manager, with a ‘corporate card’ that will save Jackson. 

 

 

"Seniors~ I got the corporate card" (Jackson)

"How dare you use corporate card chance, not even mother’s card chance " (Wooyoung)

This was the intense snack site of JYP Family. It is time to take a look at the waiting room now. The hosts on this day were Yenny, Wooyoung, Min and Choi Woo Shik and they held a conference before the show. Other members also read the script thoroughly and prepared for the shooting.

Suzy started to make herself look nice. It is the time when she meets with the fans. She checked her outfit. On this day, Suzy tried the office look. She looks like a pure rookie who ‘just’ started working for the company, right? Yenny and A Yeon chit chatted using the free time.

GOT7 reduced their nervousness by playing with block. The truth is, ‘GOT7’ was filled with nervousness on this day. It was their first time going on talk shows. However, once they saw the block, they were just busy building a house as if nothing happened. Especially, Yugyeom and Youngjae were intensely concentrating.

‘Telepathy’ game also got lots of love. The result of the game was shocking, Suzy and Jr. from ‘GOT7’ gave same answers to 4 questions. They have shouted at the same time the answer winter to the question summer or winter, water noodle to water noodle or spicy noodle, soccer to soccer or basketball and coffee to coffee or green tea.

The mood between Wooyoung and ‘GOT7’ Yugyeom were also happy and bright. They were giving high fives and hugs throughout the game. They solved questions by keep changing each other’s’ places. What about the result? They have recorded 3 points out of 4 points, sadly missed the 1st place.

Yo errrbody! :D This is Marie -again-! Sick of me yet? LOL.

It is currently 2:44am here in Korea. I’m exhausted from my day but I figured I should write my fan-account before heading to bed.

 

So today was the recording for Simply KPOP! 

 

I was super excited to participate in the show as audience and was curious as to know what it felt like to be there.  ) 

 

6:25pm: I got to the broadcasting station when the meet up time was set at 6:30pm. LOLOLOL. Oops. I was so stressed out because the cab driver took me to the wrong location therefore I had lost time. As soon as I get to the station, I see my friend Emily who was waiting along with the rest of the people. They were in line to get into the studio. I knew we were going to move soon but I needed to pee. Urgently lol. And of course, while I was doing my thing in the restrooms, the line moved! :’( (These things always happen to me, smh) In the end, I had to sit at the very end of the row. I was front raw, cool but... *pouts* I was sad for a while because, man! I wanted to see GOT7 from closer than where I was! lol. Plus, I had the equipment in front of me so the view wasn’t so nice sometimes. Then again, I had to deal with unfriendly staff members/security guards who were rather rude to me and on top of that, speaking Korean to each other about me, thinking I don’t understand when I DO!!! Anyways... Let’s get to the interesting part of my story. GOT7!

 

GOT7 were the first artists to enter the studio to perform today. The boys wore the clothes that they wore in their MV. 

So much fan service today.  ) They bowed to the audience on both sides, smiled, waived a lot. Loads of eye contact as well. They were crazily generous and it was so pleasant to see because Inkigayo wasn’t like that at all. My friends were getting loads of attention from Mark and Jackson because of the banner they were holding. And he was given them his attention, lol. So jelly. :P Anyways, they entered the studio and stood in line to greet everyone. They were in charge of introducing another group who happened to be Wassup. 

 

First they introduced themselves as a group, and second, Jr. had a few lines, then Mark took over with his flawless English, Jackson was 3rd, and finally we had Bam Bam to wrap it up. However, Jackson messed up his part so they had to retake it. He was so cute. And everyone in the studio laughed, too. Oh and Jackson has a sexy accent, not going to lie. It’s so... How to explain? Such a turn on, I love it. I NEED MORE JACKSON SPEAKING ENGLISH IN MY LIFE. And Bam Bam's English is pretty good! This kid though. So full of surprises. 

 

After the introduction, they moved on the performance. They only sang their title song. They were goofing around each other before the camera started rolling. Jr. asked something to the PD. I think it was about the amount of takes they were allowed to do. I guess he thought they’re be a rehearsal but no. Two takes, and that's it. He looked at the PD with big eyes and said ≪ really? â‰« I can’t tell what he said exactly though. He did the 'cross/no' sign with his arms. He looked very surprised at the PD's answer and started laughing cause I guess he felt nervous and he knew he had to do great. Then he turned back to his members whom all hugged him. They gather together in a circle to motivate each other. They were grinning from ear to ear. Before the PD announced  â‰ª standby â‰« they were still goofing around and giving attention to the fans who loved it.  ) I was trying to get Mark’s attention by waiving at him but it was a total fail. :P Maybe he saw me... I don’t know, honestly. Y NO SEE ME MARK???

 

Take one was done. They left the main stage for a few minutes before coming back out again. On their way back to the stage, they got very close to the audience and started doing fan service. I think several members high-fived some of the fans but I’m not quite sure. They were looking closely to whom were their fans in the studio. Waived a lot as well. They really paid attention to the audience and made eye contact when they possibly could. Love these boys for doing that. 

 

Take two was as good as take one. Compared to the other live performances I was lucky to be at, I think these were the best because their voices were less cloaked by the MR. 

 

*Le sigh. Unfortunately nothing lasts forever. In the same way as they greeted us, to say goodbye, they stood in line, said ≪ this was GOT7, thank you â‰« and bowed down. They bowed to the staff workers, as well as the audience looked on both sides of the studio. So sad to see them leave. :( Again, I tried to get their attention but... Yeah. haha. Nope. It didn’t happen. Maybe next time. Hopefully. 

 

And that was it for today. At least for GOT7’s part.

Ok, you guys. If you have the opportunity, you should definitely apply to be part of the audience for Simply Kpop! This show is so much fun and you guys to see all the artists that perform on that day. Plus, it is was easier there to be very close to the artists. You have better chances at being able to talk to them for a bit, have them grasp your attention, and even high-five them, too! I felt like it was more intimate. Nonetheless one thing I thought was weird was when some, not to say most, fans stopped paying attention to the show and the rest of the performers as soon as the artists they came to cheer for was done with their part. They were all on their cellphones or just hiding their faces behind their support board. I thought it was weird and disrespectful and I honestly felt bad for the artists that had to deal with that. :(

 

Anyways, good show! Our boys did a good job once again. Mama is proud lol.
