Do you feel like nowadays kpop groups are debuting with too many filler members?

It is said that a large group means there are members to suit all types of taste, that companies don't know which one will become stan-attractor, etc.

But, coming down to it, are you getting the feeling that you don't understand why some members are being debuted - when what they can do is either not very important (eg. speak in english, martial arts) or someone is there who is already better at it (eg.rap, face)?

No offense to these groups but Gugudan, DIA, and Cosmic girls seem like they have a lot of filler members. Having lots of members can be a plus, but it can just as well be a minus. It can make learning a group very difficult especially if that group does not go on lots of popular variety shows or have good songs.

I mean, when you really look at it groups like EXO, Twice, and Seventeen they all had realty shows before or soon after their debut. They also went on lots of variety show. If companies can't mange this much I don't see why they should be putting out groups with 9+ members because that group will only struggle more. Not to mention some of them put out the groups with lackluster titles tracks to add salt to the injury.

Idk if I think that there are more filler members nowadays than there were before, I think there have always been to some degree filler members in groups that were debuting.  I do like giving these members a chance tho.  Like having more than one rapper even tho one may be really good, I don't mind having multiple rappers in a group to give these members a chance to show their skills in something.  If they only allowed the best singer to sing/best rapper to rap, then why bother being in a group, just go solo.

There's always a reason why the company make them debut and they work hard for it and sometimes it's just that the members don't shine or showcase their talent that's why people think they are just "filler members"

!! this is so rude to call idols who worked hard just filler members

I think its obvious by looking at the current chart that korea doesnt care about talent anyway. Which is ironic since the general consensus is they dont listen to idol music bc the idols cant sing, yet everytime a talented group releases a bop, no one cares

a talented group is still an idol tho. just like you said they don't listen to "IDOL" music  :derp:

Superjunior is a veteran group and they had 13 members.

we always had groups with 4-5 member but we also ALWAYS had groups that have 10+ members.

When a group is talented, it shouldnt matter, but it does bc of visuals, thats what they truly care about, all the talent talk is bs

tbh kpop is known for their catchy music on international fans(GEE,NOBODY,GANGNAM STYLE ETC)when you listened to them they aren't even considered as talented or have strong vocals.

i honestly think it's time we stop debuting groups with more than 9 members

yeah i'm over large groups. I think large companies like SM can make big groups work bc they actually have the resources and the desire to develop every one of the members and at least try to push every group member into some sort of activity and make them visible. when smaller companies debut big groups with mostly unremarkable members it just feels like they're throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.

every member in an idol group doesn't have to have mind-blowing talent but they should have unique charms yet still be cohesive and mesh with the other members of the group.
