Twice's 'TT' sparks dispute over sexual references

South Korean girl group Twice released the music video for “TT,†the title track of its new album, sparking interest and excitement among K-pop fans around the world. But the overly sexual references have left some viewers confused as it doesn’t fit the group’s pure, innocent image.

The third EP from the nine-member girl group sounds as expected, but few viewers were prepared for the abrupt sexual symbolism that is jarringly out of sync with the group’s otherwise convincing music track.

First, Jihyo is seen eating ice cream in a strangely suggestive way, which makes Dahyun’s carrot-eating look slightly uncomfortable. A real shocker is Mina’s hand gesture with a gun barrel, a graphic sexual reference that prompted awkward silence from some YouTube reviewers.

The question is why JYP Entertainment, the agency behind Twice, added such provocative unnecessary scenes.

Some online users speculate that some of the choreography is also sexually suggestive. Members make a hand gesture resembling TT, using thumbs and index fingers, while pointing the index fingers at their bosom. Some online users point out that “TT,†when said out loud sounds like “tits,†a colloquial English term meaning “breasts.†In Korean, “TT†resembles tears and is used as a crying emoji. Some Philippine fans were surprised by the name of title track as “TT†means “male genital organ†in Filipino.

However, these hostile comments were met with angry responses from Twice fans.

This is not the first time Twice has come under fire for sexual references. When group members modeled a local school uniform, a teacher criticized the ad saying it encouraged “teenage school girls to wear tighter uniforms and show off their curves, which is detrimental to students’ health.†In the poster, Twice members were wearing thigh-high miniskirts.

SCONE becomes more and more pathetic and desperate as Twice breaks PastNPastD's records one by one.

Yes. I applied for a job at the Korea Herald so I could write this article to bring down Twice since they are a threat to SNSD's accomplishments.

Okay, I get it with Jihyo's icecream and Mina's gun. And I didn't like it either (at least they're not minors but it's still kinda gross).

However, Dahyun and the TT move are such a reach. Dahyun was a rabbit, guess what rabbits are known to eat? Carrots. And how is biting  a carrot supposed to be sexual, guys want their dicks to be bitten or what? Like the article said TT is the crying emoji in Korean, hence them doing T with their fingers right underneath their eyes. It's very simple. And I fail to see why a Korean song is held up to standards of the English or Filipino language lmao.
