I have a question regarding Duterte's decision

I'm now worried about duterte's decision to cut ties with America... Most big companies in our country is owned by americans, and majority of filipinos depend on its businesses, like BPO companies. Do you think those companies will close? Or not?

Thank you in advance for replies  :rlytearpls:

In terms of impact, it's akin to Trump becoming the US President and then unilaterally declaring that the US is withdrawing from NATO.

Does Duterte have the authority to do this?  I know he has a tremendous amount of support from his countrymen, but this is a major switch in the country's long term policy; I'm surprised he could make such a declaration unilaterally without first having a debate about this in Congress.

Is to early to tell, but that may not be the case because the country needs investments and the company owners need the market, i certanly hope no :ohbi:

These aren't state-owned by the US the last time I checked having been employed by an American BPO.

US Ambassador Goldberg: We want to continue this relationship with PHL [x]

Goldberg also clarified that the US is not breaking ties with China. - well, you owe them  $1.185 trillion, as of August 2016.

“The rebalance in Asia is very important to the US, because we recognize that the rise of China, the rise of Southeast Asia is very important to the prosperity, to the future well-being of US,†Goldberg said. - Hmmm...

“All I’m saying is that all countries in this region should have good relations with China; it benefits us too. But it shouldn’t necessarily be a zero-sum game,†he added. - and yet he said this before reaching such statement, "We worked very hard in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda. Those are the things allies do together," he added. - I see that he's playing the depth of gratitude card here bc it's the only way to touch the hearts of the Filipino, and this is just my opinion ofc.

The Mutual Defense Treaty can only be repealed by the Senate.

But the VFA and EDCA are NOT treaties, but executive agreements. The president has the power to revoke them.
