What does praise on pann mean for a celebrity/idol's status?

It has been said, a lot, that if you're being hated on pann, then you must be getting popular.

Now, originally, when Seolhyun had articles translated on her it seemed people called her out for being only a product of mediaplay and not having any genuine reasons to be popular. But, after Dispatch exposed her affair with Zico, she has been getting comments of support. And, especially after her stage with Hani and Tzuyu, she has been getting praised.

Now, what should we understand from the trajectory of the comments? Has she/AOA become less popular or is she/AOA now possessed of a much larger fandom so that they have risen beyond the state of being an easy target?

And, since it is believed pann is full of fangirls, what does getting praise mean for a male idol/group's popularity?

Is it the same for both male and female idols?

I don't know.

I just feel that Pann girls always hate female idols who are popular among public especially guys. If their popularity among guys is declining or if the fanboys find the new targets, Pann girls will start praise them.

There are many examples of this. Idols like APink, Girl's Day, Seolhyun, and Suzy got a lot of hate in their trendy days, but nowadays their hates are declining because the fan boys already found new targets.

Twice and GFriend are getting a lot of hate nowadays because they are the trendy idols right now and they have a lot of fanboys.

These idols will get less hate if they are from SM.

I get what youre trying to say, haha.

Well, when an idol rising in popularity for the first time, most likely there will be hate, comes from people who want to deny it. But in time, they will get used to it. Maybe deep in their mind, they always thought that Seolhyun is pretty, but theyre denying it before. Now not anymore. Maybe its just like that, haha.

Its true that Seolhyun's rise in popularity is not as fast as before. You all know the reason. Plus there are many rising female idols now whos been getting attention. But Seolhyun is still popular, and she still has alot of fans.

I wont think too much about what pann responses means. Actually Im glad that theyre supporting Seolhyun now

Speaking about Seolhyun personally, she gained a few supporters since the break up, especially considering the harrassement she got. Also a lot of them happen to be female, which explains the positive comments on Pann now. They might not hardcore stan her but they support and leave positive comments on her articles or make praise posts. This can be seen even on Naver, the demographics on her articles changed, it used to be 70% male commenters in the past but now its more even, like 53%.

Nonetheless the situation is same as before, her image took a hit with the history scandal and Zico mess. She still gets hate on Nate, even on Naver but only difference is that there are more people willing to defend her now. Its also a good thing that she keeps working despite her situation. She's still active in the industry with her CFs and fashion photoshoots, also the collab with Hani and Tzuyu got her really good reactions. I hope this continues.

Generally speaking, getting hate on Pann is a sign of popularity; just like praise posts as well. For example groups like EXO, BTS and Infinite are always trending and their praise posts get tons of upvotes. I would say its a good sign but not really relevant as the demographics on pann is made of teens for the most part. Naver stays the most accurate to assess the status, relevance and popularity of any celeb in SK imo.

Ive noticed the same thing with Hani. She got so much hate after her dating scandal but after break up she gets praised. Maybe it was their fanboys leaving hate comments for ruining their fantasies.

or just fan girl has no interest in her anymore, since she broke up with their oppa.  :imstupid:

which the reason fanboy prais become more relevant  :dave:

I think in the end it's about what the public think. I don't think the general public wake up in a morning and run over to read the latest Pann posts and it's the general public that have the power.

Look at the history scandal. If it was left to the haters GL would not have sold a single copy but yet at the start it was outselling HA. That's because the general public don't care one bit about what people think on those kinds of places.

Being supported on places like Pann and Naver etc does have advantages from the fans side of things but sales are not really affected that much by it.

pann is actually a site that has a mostly huge teenage demographic, as well as people in their early 20's....so that's why idols are so popular there

it doesn't always reflect the real life popularity, especially within the general public, of many celebrities (mostly those that aren't considered idols or are more popular towards older people in their mid-20's and above)

however, pann is a useful *rough* indication to see how strong a fandom/following is for a certain group/artist/individual...usually idols that are trending often have panns start to pop up more often as they get more popular. in contrast, the opposite can happen once someone loses popularity

an example could be like how bts or exo always have panns popping up, it's bc they have a huge fanbase
