Billboard: Utada Hikaru rises to #1, SHINee debuts at #2

Utada Hikaru's first new album in six years has risen to #1 on the Billboard world music chart, up from #2 when it debuted last week. "Fantome" sold 104k units this week, for a two-week total of 356k. The album has also been #1 for two weeks in a row on Oricon, Japan's domestic sales chart. Her third week is starting strong as well, with 13,000 units sold in Japan alone.

That Utada's place on the chart improved this week is somewhat extraordinary: foreign-language albums usually chart highest their first week (when all the fans buy the album) before falling rather rapidly in the weeks that follow. At this point, the strength of her fanbase and the longevity of her staying power can't be denied.

In other good news, SHINee's "1 of 1" debuts this week on Billboard at #2. MONSTA X debuted at #3. GOT7, which debuted at #1 on Billboard last week, has fallen to #4 for its second week.

Congrats to Utada on her continued success, and to KPop groups for continuing to do well worldwide!
