Why is America the only country that Buys Albums?

I mean the average, everyday person in America buys albums still. If Taylor Swift sells 1 million albums, its because 1 million people bought her album.

But in other countries, to sell a huge amount of albums you have to

A. Be one of the top 5 or so artists in the entire country

B. Have fans bulk buying your albums

So why is this?

There are more people, so more fans. And a lot of people order albums from the US when they're not from there; this will make it seem that Americans are buying the albums

Why people don't bulk buy? Because it doesn't really count on the charts; whether you buy 10 or 100 albums at once, it'll count as 1 in the charts.

I've seen Gaga fans talking about bulk buying her album

Because the last one didn't do so well...but during her first three eras she sold millions without bulk buys.

America makes up 4% of the world's population though lol...not as many people as you think.

In my country we have a resurgent vinyl scene that nearly died a few years ago. Now all the big music retailers have an extensive vinyl section. So we do buy albums, even in formats that are considered as "outdated"

I haven't seen CD singles for a good while now though.

Any random band like The 1975 or Pentatonix can push hundreds of thousands though.

True, I think it's a mixture of the large population plus the fact that people there are well off enough to spend money on albums w/o thinking of it too much.

Isn't it the same for Japan too tho? Many acts can sell albums there and Oricon doesn't even count digital albums.

Albums sell pretty well in the UK though ? Well, not as much as in the US, but still pretty decent. It maybe has to do with first of all, countries' customs, some countries will prefer to buy their albums, some prefer streaming. But also depends on population's size and their PPP.

A lot of Japan's top album sellers of the year are fan driven with gimmicks ect.

And many others still sell stupidly well despite that.

People bulk buy albums all the time. and lemme tell you straight up. Folks don't buy all the albums of top acts in America.

Folks buy their singles. Those single numbers are converted into album sales, but there's rarely an artist whose album sales are 100% all actual albums.

Overseas sales aren't counted.

Those acts are getting "sales" from streaming, not from really selling albums.

Not really. It's about half and half.
