my flatmate/friend and I are going back home for the holidays, from november - march.

in the meantime, my flatmate's boyfriend wants to stay in our place. i don't mind at all. we're going to split the rent three way. he suggested he will pay for the electricity and i'm fine with that too.

here's the thing: our internet contract is up. right now we're not in contract but we're paying for our internet, which is about $60 AUD. My flatmate wants to split that up three way as well while her boyfriend stays in our place and we're both not there. her excuse is "$60 is too much for him to pay".

i don't agree with that. i don't feel like we're both obliged to pay out of contract for HIS internet just so he can be on it while we're not here. we wont be using it.

if my flatmate wants to split it up 50/50 with him. she can but, i don't want to do that, especially since i'm not bound to a contract.

my flatmate is the sweetest person ever but i just don't understand why I should be paying for his internet. am i extra for thinking this way? lmao.

not sure since there's not a fixed rate, but way more than the internet fee.

I personally wouldn't pay the internet fee. I'd just lie and say I can't afford it as I will need my money for vacation.

Were you planning to Cut off the Internet on the due time you went away?

If Yes, you are not being extra.

If No,

you are not being that extra but I can see where your friend is coming from.

Basically you don't wanna cut off the Internet cuz it can be a bit of a hassle to sign new contract and set it up again once you come back. In the mean time, her boyfriend will be paying for it. But if her boyfriend was not there you guys would be paying for it full anyway.

You want to kill the snake without the stick being broken. You are looking for your benefit and to have the best of both worlds.

While there is nothing wrong with it cuz it makes sense, there is something that can make your friend bit iffy about.

yeah i was planning on cutting it off whilst I away.

I just don't think its fair for me to pay my share if I'm not bound to a contract and won't be utilising the service, and I'm paying for him only.

You are not being Extra at all then. Tell your friend you are too broke to be supporting her boyfriend. Its such a hassle if you have a situation like this. Good luck sorting it out. ♡

explain it to the boyfriend. your argument seems reasonable. so its 2 against 1.
though will he pay for the electricity even you guys go bck there to stay again at the flat? because thats unfair for him if he still does.
