I NEED TO KILL THIS GUY SOMEONE PLEASE STOP ME

FIRST WHEEIN NOW SOLAR? FUCK. SOMEONE ARREST HIM AND KWON JUNG RYEOL BEFORE I DO

And some people actually think we're overreacting and framing a young kid for his joke.

A young kid still needs to be called out and punished if they make mistakes, not brushing it off as a harmless joke or they won't grow up right, you know. These people are unbelievable, tbh.

Eh, he ain't a kid lol. I don't know why people should give him a pass when at that age anyone should know better than to say that shit to someone else. I'm even more annoyed now that I know that, geez.

This. No one should just excuse him for being young and whatnot; his manner as a man AND a person is seriously lacking.

Not Solar's hair

tumblr_ljytkrTFSV1qe7t3d.gif

My goodness, are you still mourning over that WIG? Solar still has her long hair, don't worry [emoji4]

On another note, for those who are still clueless about that rumored Alice concept:

Hope that helps.

Also I never understood the random 'red light' and Moonbyul stumbling around saying 'No matter what you do, girl' during her solo stage. But then I realized...

I'm such an idiot :hurr:

She'll never stop until Krystal notices her lmao

Gah. I've been feeling so upset at the mistreatment they've been getting for the past couple of days. Honestly, it's such a sad side of being in the industry plus being a girl.

I really want them to do crazy well this comeback so that people stop underestimating them.

I just have this terrible feeling something big is happening behind the doors. While I'm thankful KBS didn't cut Mamamoo's part on YHY Sketchbook after that incident, they did it with Wheein now.

I don't really favor MBC (bcs everywhere Solar goes, the interest is on her role in WGM not herself as a singer first. And vice versa for Eric who bears with it too everywhere he goes) but they are the one who keeps inviting Mamamoo to their shows... SBS is YG's ruling, after all. Hmph.

Hello! I didn't get into Mamamoo until I heard I Miss You and was blown away by their vocals. After that I heard 1cm, laughed at the lyrics and because of these songs, I bought the singles and then Melting on iTunes [emoji38]. I saw the teaser for New York (I love what I'm hearing) and I want to know if this is just a single or a pre-release? I'll try to post more in the future.

Welcome to the fa®m!!

As I understand it, New York is a pre-release single (if they really do comeback on October) just like 1cm and I Miss You :)

Maybe you have already seen it, but I wanted to post this because it's the best mamamoo interview I've seen so far.

Really interesting to watch,

PS: would you recommend me another?

*glancing at MRJ*

There's more interviews he did with Mamamoo, up until UOAY era :) You can find them all on his channel, MRJKPOP ;)

I may be late spazzing in here but I was definitely in time on streaming the MVs. I'll do it again later with different accounts :chu:

Now onto the song.

It really feels like RBW is subtly pushing other 'combination' (or ships, as we know) like the earlier releases of "Angel" from Angel Line and "Dab Dab" from Rap/Rare Line. This pre-release is where Performance Line shines the most (their parts are more prominent than LeaMak) with LeaMak supporting them WITHOUT being overshadowed. How they did it I'd never understand, it's so amazing that they were able to do it since I doubt any group can do it unless they have a tight knit with each other + have any say in the song production.

The song itself is beyond my expectation! I always know that Mamamoo has this skill to give us surprises with their musicality and this is just another proof! Moonbyul gets so many parts in this and her flow is just so, so good... And it seems like her technique has changed ever since she debuted gradually.

Wheein~ her vocal, her tone... Just as expected from the main vocal! :rlytearpls:

The whole MV, even if the plot is meh, I love the color palette, their visuals are :chu: and let's not forget the treasure hunt that actually makes us paying attention to every single detail of the video. Brilliant marketing.

Last but not least, I'm hyped with their next comeback! I don't care if we lost to Park Hyoshin, I'll be a proud Moomoo instead. :)

That one comment about Mamamoo being a tryhard bugs me a bit.

So, I want to start a discussion with you guys.

Do you agree with that? I don't.

Do you think the commenter's "tryhard" comment is referring to the fact that Mamamoo is singing a song about another city, another country, and as a matter of fact, another culture?

But isn't the song about the hilarious experience of a girl lyring to her boyfriend that she's gone to New York?

Do you think some people judge the song too soon just because of its title?

What about being "tryhard", is it the same case in your culture that when someone releases a work of art about a different culture, then it's considered as "being a tryhard"?

I'm sorry for throwing a lot of these questions, but I just want to have a nice discussion with you guys, since for me this fandom is not like other fandoms, and I mean that in a good way.

Also, I'm asking all of these questions just in case there is someone here who comes from SK, so you guys can answer my questions and fulfill my curiosity.

I personally think they're not being a tryhard. Like I said, and the song itself proves, that the song isn't about kissing some country's ass, nor even trying to heavily promote some other city and culture. The song is just about a girl's experience for lying to her boyfriend, right?

Because, in my culture, when someone is trying to kiss ass about some other culture, the society here will judge the person as being a tryhard and even as far as condemning the person to be "forgetting his/her own root". But that's so harsh, and I don't like the way the society here thinks most of the times, so I disagree.

Where did you see this tryhard comment?

NB article most comment are positive though. Only the thread title and a single comment mention tryhard.

Thanks, chochu :chu:

In the thread about NB comments. It's posted in this forum.

But like I said in that thread, I know that the comment wasn't meant to be harsh. I think whoever said that meant that as a compliment, but it's just interesting to see the way he/she thinks about the concept of being a tryhard. That's why I started this discussion.

Ah, tbh, I don't think much about it. I take it as a funny comment - or a nudge I give to my friend when we see something funny/weird. The journalist - I think - is making fun of how the girls make an elaborate plan just to have a taste of New York but even though they did it, they still look adorable and lovely...just like what I have in mind when I watch the MV (which plot is still meh to me). Not really in a bad way, not at all.

But yes. 'tryhard' can mean something negative as well. It's like, if RBW + Mamamoo came up with full swag for their Taller Than You MV complete with hairstyle, hip hop outfit, and lose their 'root' as you mentioned, then we can definitely say they're a tryhard in the exact meaning.

I hope I explain it well.

So, basically all of the people now don't even bat an eyelid on whatever's posted on NB or Pann? Okay, then. Noted. I'll make sure not to get "too worked out" next time.

Most will dismiss Pann since there are a lot of immature, bitter fans there.

NB only occasionally post positive articles. I don't mind reading her translations..but often times, she translated articles that doesn't have enough upvotes it's laughable (for example, when some accused Mamamoo of plagiarism on Taller than You and its logo - red heels and "1").

I think it's okay if you want to discuss any articles about Mamamoo in the future. It's just to us here, the 'tryhard' comment - perhaps - doesn't bother us as much as the stuffs we have to bear last week (Mamamoo's stage cancelled, Solar got sexual comments, Wheein was edited out a lot in Happy Together). And we all agree anyway that Mamamoo doesn't need to be a tryhard. We all know they take pride on their work and never once strayed from their path.

Don't get too discouraged to discuss such things here. [emoji4] [emoji4]

As someone who is from 'Eastern' as you say...yes, what you say as 'condemned as being unfaithful to their own culture' is right.

One thing to consider is, hmm...How should I explain this? While we can 'appreciate' Western culture, our own culture is too different from it. For example, as I am raised to be modest (and conservative) while Western is more - sorry if I offend anyone - open-minded, liberal, and express themselves freely, it's not something I just can do anytime anywhere because it is how I was raised.

This is also the same for Westerners, or we can just say Kpop fans (to put it simply) who can't grasp some things that Koreans hate, or love, or deem normal because that's how it is - it's their culture.

As for tryhard..

There's a female soloist from my country who had an ambition to enter America's music industry. Everyone mocked, taunted, and just straight bullied her for her dream.

Guess what? She succeeded after years of trying. While her music and style is too 'American' for me, I understand it as her way to make her path there. However, she never once forget her roots and always include a part of our culture in her MVs.

People began to change their opinions about her, saying that she is one of our nation's pride (after another international singer who mainly lived abroad now). Ofc there's still a handful of people who accused her as tryhard for being too 'Western'.

Welp, my post is all over the place.

I hope you can understand it :meow:

that's the dream, my friend

yibyul - was that Charice? If its who Im thinking of then blesssss.....

my question here is... if Koreans view artists that market themselves to the international market as tryhards then can any kpop act truly succeed with the Korean public's approval into the "Western" music market without being unfaithful to their culture?

lets look at artists like Dean for example; his official debut was in the USA but I gather he's hella popular in SK too - his song was played a lot here in the UK and I think the USA... is it considered a slap to the face by knetizens for an artists to be a traditional idol then for them to release material that is more internationally mainstream (like western pop)....

I gather from stages like Solar's sexyback that actually mamamoo are incredibly good at it and would get the support but there will always be salty haters... when is it tryhard and when is it embracing the musicality of other genres?

Charice isn't from mine tho... she's amazing! I lub her.

Hmm.

Okay I genuinely don't know a thing about Dean :derp: but if he's famous enough to have his song played outside SK then props for him!

But I suppose he has this distinct style of himself? Music and all? And still respect his own roots? Then no wonder he's successful on his own.

I think...but yeah this is only my opinion...to avoid being a tryhard is, never forget your own identity. Never forget your roots and try to be someone else that people around you can't recognize.

If you happen to know Anggun C. Sasmi, she's very, very famous internationally and locally as a singer. She has her classy-sexy style, the rock sound she never once lose, and her unique vocal color that no one has. But did Indonesians condemn her for being a tryhard? No. Because she's always been that way even before she migrated to go international. I even forgot she's still an Indonesian whenever she talks in our language bcs she has this thick accent I also have when we speak Javanese. It was only when she speaks English/French did it dawn to me that, "Wow, she's the Anggun C. Sasmi."

Mamamoo... I can see them appeal to both culture. If they want to be the first artists to be successful in America, I think they can (unless CL is able to do that). They know how to appeal to the Korean GP although their music isn't something you can find in Kpop, and their personality (that can make Westerners shock bcs of how blunt they can be) STILL appeal to Koreans, so ... Yes I think they can.

My thoughts on Hello Counselor

Lol that show is - while probably helpful for the people who comes with their problems - not about screentime for the guest stars.

So even if Wheebyul doesn't have much to talk, I'll be most likely understand since they're not the focus of the show. They're just there to give opinions if asked and also vote if the problem is truly concerning.

Okay I'll go back to lurk ~

Huh, look at what I've missed!!

Mamamoo is that one, rare group that can tackle any genre with their own essence seeping into their songs + performance. I'm still surprised everytime I listen to 1 cm Rock ver. since the hip-hop sound is so familiar in my ears that I can't listen to it any other way. But guess what, Mamamoo proves me wrong and I absolutely love that version, since I'm also a fan of rock music and the likes.

I also don't care for Mamamoo's non-fan (and some moomoos, but just a few) saying that their songs sound the same/lost their retro sound, because they never do. They make retro sound stylish, modern, or just as it is and we still love it... although you're not a huge fan of retro, you'll find it enjoyable to listen after several times.

I trust Mamamoo and KDH to keep releasing songs that 1) still Mamamoo-like, 2) appeal to public, 3) appeal to fans, 4) the girls enjoy/love.

Though I kinda want them to do a more serious, like beagle-less concept someday. A darker, mature concept, you know. I'm curious with how they'll handle it in their own style.

(Wheebyul dance break is also very much welcomed)

quite off the topic right now but the stage was wet due to the rain today, Wheein and Solar almost slipped and fell.

Wheein actually fell. Solar slipped a few times and ALMOST fell dangerously if it weren't for Wheebyul's quick reflexes. Byul also slipped a little. Hyejin the queen was completely safe and sound.

The MC also took quite a fall.

(and Yuju too)

^^

It's so close to comeback, I hope they're careful. It would be good if their coordi at least had a different pair of shoes handy for such cases, ones that are slipping proof.

I think this is the EO's fault for not ensuring the stage is safe for the artists.

However I have to agree with you that coordi should also consider another pair of shoes in this weather.

I agree it the EO's fault. I've dealt with EOs myself (not as a performed though) and you can rarely rely on everything being 100% organized perfectly and safely. I learned the hard way that it's best to prepare for everything yourself as much as possible.

I sound so bitter and mistrustful. That's why I need Mamamoo in my life so they can lighten up my cold, cynical heart. :rlytearpls:

"my cold, clinical heart" sounds like mine too lmao
