Tao often mentions Jay Chou as his favourite singer growing up during his interviews, he did during is Kevin Hours interview last week, looks like that led to the rediscovery of his Jay Chou covers last year!

Recently, a video compilation of Huang Zitao’s covers of Jay Chou’s songs like ‘Listen to Mum’s words’, ‘Tornado’ and ‘Silence’ went viral amongst netizens. They commented that “Huang Zitao once said in an interview that Jay Chou’s songs form up the main bulk of his memories. Have listened to many of Tao Tao’s rap, but didn’t know that his live covers of Jay Chou’s songs would be like this, they sound really great! Thumbs up for Huang Zitao who’s always takes his singing seriously. “

 

In the video, there are snippets of Huang Zitao singing ‘Listen to Mum’s words’ when he was on a children singing show “New generation sound of Chinaâ€, and of him singing “Silence†at a live KTV session in “All the way with you, a performance which made Ye Yiqian, He Jie & Anita Yuen turn in fans. Of particular notice is Huang Zitao’s acappella cover of ‘Tornado’. Several netizens commented that, “His voice is so full of magnetism and so mesmerizing, switching between high and low tones so effortlessly!†

 

The rediscovery of this compilation also caused many netizens to exclaim that “After listening to so many different covers (of Jay Chou’s songs), in all fairness, Huang Zitao’s version is really great!â€, “Didn’t know that Huang Zitao’s singing is so good, makes me want to keep repeating it (note: direct translation would be “makes my ears pregnantâ€) “, “Praise for his singing skills! This non-fan here is totally enthralled by itâ€. Following that, a bunch of interested netizens went on to listen to Huang Zitao’s new album, “The Roadâ€, and expressed that “Actually Huang Zitao’s talent for composing really deserves to be recognized. I love how Tao can switch from very sweet vocals to rough rap when he sings , and I find his singing tone lovely.

Truth, I love his compositions like 'Alone', 'New Day' and 'The Road', not only are the songs amazing they are also so full of positivity, really a reflection of Tao's attitude towards hardships and life in general, always hard working and full of positivity.

 

I love his cover of 'Listen to Mom'.

Very Nice......I'm so glad he's turning more and more haters into fans. He's one of those hidden gems, to think we almost never got a chance to see all that he is capable of achieving. I think it's amazing what he has been able to do with his musical career, and hopes he shines even brighter.

He sounds really good when singing and I agree that many of his releases so far are great. I'm glad it's working out for him and at least now he gets to show his true singing ability.
