Philippine leader Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday told U.S. President Barack Obama to "go to hell" and said the United States had refused to sell some weapons to his country but he did not care because Russia and China were willing suppliers.

In his latest salvo, Duterte said he was realigning his foreign policy because the United States had failed the Philippines and added that at some point, "I will break up with America". It was not clear what he meant by "break up".

During three tangential and fiercely worded speeches in Manila, Duterte said the United States did not want to sell missiles and other weapons, but Russia and China had told him they could provide them easily.

"Although it may sound shit to you, it is my sacred duty to keep the integrity of this republic and the people healthy," Duterte said.

"If you don't want to sell arms, I'll go to Russia. I sent the generals to Russia and Russia said 'do not worry we have everything you need, we'll give it to you'.

"And as for China, they said 'just come over and sign and everything will be delivered'."

His comments were the latest in a near-daily barrage of hostility toward the United States, during which Duterte has started to contrast the former colonial power with its geopolitical rivals Russia and China.

On Sunday, he said he had got support from Russia and China when he complained to them about the United States. He also said he would review a U.S.-Philippines Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement.

The deal, signed in 2014, grants U.S. troops some access to Philippine bases, and allows them to set up storage facilities for maritime security and humanitarian and disaster response operations.

He said the United States should have supported the Philippines in tackling its chronic drugs problems but instead criticized him for the high death toll, as did the European Union.

'HELL IS FULL'

"Instead of helping us, the first to hit was the State Department. So you can go to hell, Mr Obama, you can go to hell," he said.

"EU, better choose purgatory. Hell is full already. Why should I be afraid of you?"

At a later speech he said he was emotional because the United States had not been a friend of the Philippines since his election in May.

"They just ... reprimand another president in front of the international community," he told the Jewish community at a synagogue.

"This is what happens now, I will be reconfiguring my foreign policy. Eventually, I might in my time I will break up with America."

It was not clear if by his "time", he was referring to his six-year term in office.

According to some U.S. officials, Washington has been doing its best to ignore Duterte's rhetoric and not provide him with a pretext for more outbursts.

While an open break with Manila would create problems in a region where China's influence has grown, there were no serious discussions about taking punitive steps such as cutting aid to the Philippines, two U.S. officials said on Monday.

Several of Duterte's allies on Monday suggested he act more like a statesman because his comments had created a stir. On Tuesday, he said his outbursts were because he was provoked by criticism of his crackdown on drugs.

"When you are already at the receiving end of an uncontrollable rush, the only way out is to insult," he said.

"That is my retaliation."

Korea and U.S are on the same side

Why would Korea provide weapons to the Philippines when the US already denied them

I wonder how his people are feeling considering they are having beef with China right now.

We can see how just one stupid president can create enough mess for generations to clean up.When I see this guy, I see the future of America with Trump as president.

Other than THAAD korea and china have a pretty good relationship. You can actually have a balancing act. China relies heavily on Korea exports as well

Korea has its own interests as a regional power and it would be in its long term interest to furtherf defence modernization ties since Philippined already strongly relies on Korea as its highest source of tourists

Why do u keep on thinking Korea is a good country for trade investment over China? China and Russia both owns the most gold and rare minerals. China has the AIIB. Their new Yuan which is backed by gold made it to the IMF world reserve currency and will end the US dollar. Higher quality products will be made in China. China is part of the new world order not South Korea

There is a geo political tightrope to walk at this moment when tensions are high.

Ph needs a lot of support and its obvious partners are china and us but picking one side will anger the other important ally and end up risking national interests so its hard to have a zero sum dipolmatic policy so im not saying to make korea their biggest investor but rather focus investments particularly military assests (for infrastructure china is a good choice but it still has a bad reputation in the philippines and will take a few to 10 years before its the best choice)from a more neutral partner from thr SCS issue. Korea may be a US strategic ally but its got its own independent policy where is relations with china are strong.

Mess

The man is full of inconsistencies, a lot of the people can't stand him why he has to be friendly with China. But then we can't also afford to wage war bc Philippine military is not properly equipped to defend the country and all Filipinos know that. We will not only be buying from both countries but is considering Israel as well [x] and who knows which other countries?

Oh he's gonna get killed off soon.

Yep, according to him he received a tip that the CIA will take him out.

China donated a rehab facility to accommodate some of those 729,915 people who surrenderred (the Vice President is also involved in this project) after a known fact that the country isn't capable to build the facilities as of this year because of the shortage of the budget from the previous administration. But more drug rehab facilities are expected to rise in 2017 from the government's budget. The South Korean government has turned over P300-million ($7 million) worth of medical facilities to hospitals in Iloilo province.

Let me also add this information and until now we are waiting for the statement from the US regarding this.

We cannot buy military equipment from other countries without the blessing of the United States and yet they haven't given us brand new military stuff, and only the decommissioned ones from WWII. Our fighter planes don't have missiles, and I'm not so sure if they're worthy to be called as such?

So looking at things from his perspective

The way America run things... Philippines will forever needed to be under the protection of United States, as such, US will have a reason to be near South China Sea to stop China's growth...

They were just a pawn, a pseudo vessel state, who's kept weak for different agenda, forbidding a true independence.

And all he wanted is for his people to have true independence and able to control their own destiny

Hmmm :datass:  Interesting...

It's unfortunate that he isn't eloquent and in return he lets his sentences trail off leaving the media to finish it on their own terms...it's so frustrating!

According to my friends who are OFWs they find it odd that the US treats the PH as their little brown brothers but applying for a working/tourist visa is a pain and a half and yet for other Asian countries it's easier to acquire such?

And who can ever forget about these cases:

The Subic Rape Case [x]

The killing of the transgender by a US Marine service member [x]

And may I also insert this tweet from a Fil-Am

I know there are Filipinos who are eager to push their own personal agenda, and being a critic is also beneficial but I hope they see that when it comes to national interests they must not let their cognitive dissonance appear.

thanks for the tip.

I guess thats why the government arsenal defence industrial estate for defence research and development was just announced.

It is good that they bought from south korea. Korea and Japan are our biggest investors in our shipping manufacturing development so best to get tech from them than US since they seem to restrict philipines defence capabilities.

India looks also promising to get weapons and tech transfer

Also its less messy and tension wise its not a good idea to get tech from China but Russia is ok.

Is there actually a law that requires tgeir blessing?

They should still weigh the pros and cons in dealing with the countries they're interested imo.

The people in the administration are still inspecting the papers that were signed by the persons appointed by the previous administration to really know what other affairs were made, the public is still waiting for updates.
