Are you against or for burkinis?

Question is inspired by episode 115 of Abnormal Summit. If you're interested, watch it here. I'd recommend watching it, because there was an equal number of against and for in the episode and there were many different arguments thrown out. From rational to the sort of trolling you might find in an internet forum, but it's important that all of those are heard and replied to.

Me myself I'm against a ban on burkinis. I think a ban would mean denial of freedom of religion. Also, it seems to only strengthen anti-muslim sentiments. It's also a manifestation of a much larger problem, which should be focussed on instead.

I don't know.. i'm personally against that kind of religions that force (i'm just talking about the ones that are FORCED not the ones that actually like it) to cover the hair or even the face of the woman. I think is ridiculous (i hope i don't offend someone..)

My aunt was forced to cover her beautiful hair when she was married to someone that was part of that religion and i saw her suffering because of it :/. if you like it, is fine, your problem, but if they force you, then i think the ban is right.

That's why this opinion is to hard to give, because it depends of the person..

I definitely think it's wrong if it's forced, but the idea is that women should have the choice to choose whether they want to wear it themselves. Of course one can ask the question, how free is the choice of a woman to wear a hijab or other form of religious garnment in muslim communities? It's difficult to answer that question, since it's mostly a case-by-case thing. But I've heard of many muslim women who say themselves, I like to wear it and it's my choice.

For the ban. Most of the women that wear them are forced, and its honestly disgusting how people are fighting for women to be treated like objects.

I've seen this argument around a lot and it's honestly the one that strikes me as the one that would bring me the closest in supporting the ban. But it seems that people that find the burkini against women's rights are not protesting against for example the heavy oversexualization and burden of having a certain appearance that exists in many European countries. Women's rights to wear what they want to wear does not stop (or begin with) the burkini. So it's odd to focus so heavily on this one thing. I'm not saying this is what you do, but it is what happens in the general discussion a lot, and in so I think this argument is often the expression of a larger unacceptance of a culture that is different and hard to understand, and in some cases the expression of simply anti-muslim sentiment.

lmao this is bullshit. Since when do y'all get to decide what we feel. "Most of them women"

Its funny how you can turn a blind eye to the mistreatment of women in Islam to fuel your own agenda. Are you going to deny the burkini is based on the idea that a woman becomes worth less depending on how much she wears? Because we can take it to the text gurl.

I'm not bothered what people choose to wear in the beach or pools so I have no problem with the burkini. The only issue my country had was the covering of the entire face for taking driver license and national ID cards and that one I agreed with. It got sorted out pretty easily though and the national Muslim association agreed to only the covering of the head for identification photos.

even if it's by choice those women who poses for men magazine also being objectified right?

We can't make everyone happy, and there're women who wear hijab by choice so as long as they're happy to do it I don't think it's a problem or we're supporting their objectification

Well I'm Arab and I'm gonna tell you that all the brainwashing and wrong information you've been fed about us and the treatment we get can go to hell

Wearing that is our choice, some of us don't want to show our bodies, so what? It doesn't mean we are suffocating. Some of us are committed to religion BY CHOICE and prefer to be that way.

Honestly stfu

The difference is, those women have the choice to pose in a bikini. For the west, it is about choice. We can't make everyone happy, but we can make more happy if we ban it. Which is why I'm glad France has taken the leap.
