I'm not sure how official Nikkei rankings are, but they take into consideration a few factors like how much people have heard a group's name in general, if they know one of their songs etc. Perfume has ranked #1 for the last 5 years and their % keeps increasing. This is from 2017 One thing they have is consistency which is good, I don't think they've had solid chart toppers since like, 2014 or smth but they stay relevant enough since they have established the Perfume brand name. Anyone can correct me on this, I haven't stepped into Japan yet to see for myself lol but their general popularity with the masses is up there. Source: Nikkei, LINE, Oricon Surveys. Pefume appears also since years on one of the biggest music shows at new year NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen. Of course the sales are declining when you active about 15 years. Their last album "Future Pop" isn't also that mainstream appealing like previous releases. They're not 20 anymore and not a generic profile idol band. That keeps them alive. Perfume should be in the Top 10 maybe. But i don't think they're in the Top 5. A question for oricon charts experts here. For some orientation...
