A game that ruins friendships

I know most people think of Mario Party as the ultimate friendship ruiner, but that's an obvious answer. I feel like the ultimate game that ruins friendships is The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. Because while Mario Party is a competitive game by nature, Four Swords is a competitive game disguised as a co-op.

The point of the game is to gather 4 friends (if you got them) and work together as a team to fight enemies, solve puzzles, and save Hyrule. But there's one element that basically ruins that sense of teamwork. Money.

After each stage, they tally up how much money you've collected and whoever has the most is the champion of that stage. You can usually find money in secret treasure chests or dropped by enemies, so this already creates scenarios where you and your friends are competing to get the last hit on an enemy so they get the money or stealing it right after they finish off an enemy. Or even scenarios where someone is fucking around trying to find hidden treasure when everyone else is ready to move on.

But there are some design choices where it's clear the game designers wanted people to betray each other. Like, say there's this giant rock that one person can't lift on their own. So you get your buddy to come over and help you lift it. Teamwork, right? Well, guess what's under the rock? A secret underground hole with a chest full of MONEY in it for ONE person. So naturally, that sense of teamwork is suddenly thrown away as you fight to get the money for yourself. Also, in a lot of co-op games, if an ally dies, someone else has to come over and revive them or something. Not in this game though. You revive automatically after a few seconds, but you also drop TONS of money on the ground. So here come all your "allies" rushing over to loot your corpse because MONEEEEEEY!!! You can bet your friends will secretly be hoping you die.

This game is a lot of fun, but it's sooo deceptively evil. It's a friendship tester for sure. Unless you guys can think of another game that's even worse, feel free.

^^The game designers knew what they were doing. Why else would they illustrate this? lol^^

i used to trick my cousin by not heading to the edge of the screen to advance to the next area so he'd get caught in shadow link's super bombs.

i tried to survive, myself, but it didn't matter i live so much as he died.

personally think MK is a bigger friendship-ruiner than MP though. the speed makes everyone heated.

True, Mario Kart's a good one. But I dunno, I actually think Mario Party is more infuriating because it lasts so long and there are so many options. Nothing's worse than spending like an hour getting money, getting stars, and being in the lead only for all that hard work to be ruined because of a bullshit Chance Time. Or when your friends create alliances to screw you over because you're winning. Like, if you're in a 2 vs 2 mini game, you're teammate will do poorly and lose on purpose because they don't want you getting anymore money or a chance at the mini game star. Mario Party is serious business.  :soul:

Nah, while those games are fun and competitive there are much worse games. If we talk about videogames, I've played almost every Mario Party with my friends and also that game Four Swords where you connect 4 gameboys to a gamecube and it is as you described but it doesn't compare to when me and my friends would play DotA 2 together and would be losing. The level of tension gets to a point where is inevitable to be swearing at your friends blaming each other and when things were pretty heated up someone would end up leaving the room and not speaking to anyone for the rest of the day.

Having said that I consider board games a lot worse that videogames in that sense, I dare you guys to play one game of either Risk or Diplomacy with your friends; then you would realize Mario Party is just a game for children.

you can't understand having a friendship ruined by a game til you get served, by someone you love and trust, with the ultimate betrayal that is that card

I got served by those bitches 4 times in a row once and i'm about to verbally assault someone the next second
