I'm very excited for the album but I'm also VERY worried that it is going to flop because let's face it, Americans aren't really open to Asian artists. And especially to a nine members girl group. Plus the fact that every other Kpop act that tried to make it in America flopped miserably doesn't ease my worries at all. I will always support the girls through thick and thin but I really don't want to end up like the Wonder Girls. They deserve so much better than this. (and the Wonder Girls deserved better but JYP screwed them up pretty badly)

It all depends on how well they're promoted in the US/Europe. I hope SM have learnt their lesson with BoA. I give SM credit for one thing that JYP hadn't done with WG, which was to make sure that if the girls don't last very long in the US they at least have a strong hold in S.Korea (& will continue promotions there to stay relevant). As well as the Japanese market to fall back on, even though the girls haven't been doing great in Japan sales wise with their singles and their popularity in Japan is very much stagnant but at least they have very good album sales which is awesome (200k + of Girls & Peace is really good to be honest, their first JP album sales was indeed magnificent). Also their JP tours!

 

Didn't the World Girls have a strong fanbase? I wasn't into Kpop back then so I don't know. Did they have good sales?

 

Either way, I'm really worried about this. Just thinking about the racist comments from ignorant Americans makes me cringe. But nonetheless, I'm very excited to hear the actual album.

What's funny is that some people are all up in arms about this, yet no one cares when fans take photos of the girls at the airport even if the girls look insanely tired after trips across Asia and are clearly tired and annoyed.

 

Respect the girls in all aspects if you're going to throw that word around.

 

It's not the same though. First of all, we don't know what this guy did. And since it affected Taeyeon enough to actually write this kind of post makes me think he did more than just take a couple of pics. Plus, don't forget that when they're in the airport they have all sorts of security with them while in this particular case they were completely exposed.

I completely understand both of your guys' points but I'm against people acting all high and mighty about this situation when people do, in a sense, stalk the girls at the airport. Fans KNOW when and where the girls will be on any given day at the Gimpo or Incheon airports, c'mon, they KNOW when the girls are going to be there. That's not good.

Of course there isn't a need. And yes it is kind of creepy how fans know pretty much all the girls' moves. But I still wouldn't classify taking airport pics as actual stalking since they take the pics and then they leave. It's not like fansite photographers follow the girls in their  daily lives. As for the fanart,well, it's not like they're ever gonna see it unless someone shows it to them. I think it's the same as fanfics. It happens in all fandoms whether it is another Kpop group, a Western group a TV show etc and I really don't believe it means that we don't respect the girls. 

 

 

 

SNSD Airport situations has become Issue for several times before in Korea. But no one paid attention to it just because they still want to see them upclose.

 

They have all security and all but why did they still ask fans to dont come anymore at airport to take a picture of them? If it not bothering them enough they'll just stay silent like they always did.

And it isn't that silly 12 year old One Direction and Tumblr TV show gif meme shit, there are people who legitimately believe Taeyeon and Tiffany are lesbians and have twitters, tumblrs, youtubes and just about everything else dedicated to "TaeNy is REAL". Sorry, but I don't call that respect. And even if they were lesbians, doing it is still not being respectful.

 

They might not see it but they might've not seen what this guy was doing (whatever it was). Just because they can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't disrespectful and rude.

I understand your point but I still don't think that reading a story about the girls (most of the times set in an AU environment may I add) means that you love and respect them any less that a fan who doesn't read fanfics. (okay I admit I'm biased towards femslash fics in general but it would be a long post and it has nothing to do with SNSD so)

The "fans" that bash the other girls to make their bias look better, the "fans" that show negativity in everything the girls do/insult them (e.g their music is shit, x member please stop having botox your face looks like shit nowadays, x member was ugly before surgery but she looks good now aka comments that are constantly posted even on this forum), don't you think they're being disrespectful as well? I understand that. I'm pointing out that she/he obnoxiously highlighted men in their post. When we're fully aware of how crazy sasaeng fans are. I've never understand the reasons why people decide to open up a fanfiction account and type up disgusting smut stories. A lot of people try to justify writing those smut tales because they believe that girls have shown certain interactions between one another that proves that they're in a lesbian relationship - WRONG! Just because Taeyeon and Tiffany are close buddies, it doesn't mean that they're fucking each other in odd locations. It's your highly sexual and delusional mind that is thinking such things.

 

I don't read fanfictions (even the "normal" ones) and I certainly don't write them, no offence, but I instantly judge those who write slash fictions because I've heard enough to know that they're revolting. I'm 99.9% sure that the girls do not appreciate being portrayed in such a degrading manner (and know that they're being portrayed like that), because if I was an idol and I knew that shit was going on about me I would flip.

Well I don't read fanfictions so I have no idea what's going on; however, I have seen drawings of Tiffany scissoring Taeyeon and the girls being drawn naked. Which IMO is degrading because they might not want to be portrayed in that highly sexually explicit manner (even if it was with a man).

- Getting close to SNSD and disturbing them on their vacation or their private time. If you're a female, you have a much better chance of getting away with it because they won't immediately be afraid if you violate their private space

 

This appears to be what's fine:

 

- Highly sexualized fanfictions, both heterosexual and homosexual in orientation, where the various members of SNSD are caught in sexual positions, doing sexual acts, performing S&M, having long deep fantasies and the ilk with other members of SNSD and/or other female and male members of the KPOP fandom or themselves

- Posters of various shipped couples being held at airports, sports arenas, and in walking, often of a nature that is not only inaccurate but potentially unnerving to those who are involved

- Crowding of SNSD in an airport terminal or entrance to a public building, often with little to no security, invading their privacy, pushing against them, touching them, and putting them into harms way just for the sake for a preview that makes the nine goddesses look amazing. Never mind they are in just as much risky danger in this situation.

- Stalking but only from a distance. If you're behind a camera far away and/or you maintain your distance, that's fine. Only if

-Nobody mentioned anything about posters of ships

- SONEs are not EXOTICs thank you very much

- People who run fansites are not stalkers. Would you really put them in the same bag as sasaengs?

To be honest, we are more similar to EXOTiCs then we'd like to admit. They are just more passionate about it.

 

Contrary to popular belief, I think SONEs (stans of individual members only not included) are one of the best fandoms out there.  Most of the times we have just the right amount of craziness and sensibility.

So I went to the thread because I saw people tweeting "1h snsd thread" and "cancer" in the same sentence. Lol I was not disappointed.

 

Some people here are black and white about do's and don't while others put "weights" on what is MORE LIKELY to produce reactions from the girls. Neither one is really disagreeing with each other but black and white people are kind of insisting on strict lines. There is always room for grey areas especially in a situation where more than 1 person's opinion is involved. That's called compromise.

 

 

 

I think the question people are asking is "why is there a lack of fanservice and interactions now? And when they do interact, why is it awkward as fuck?" You know how close friends degenerate into acquaintances? It's something like that. It makes people wonder and want to know what happened.

 

Not pertaining to you but I've seen a lot of TaeNy shippers use that same line of thought as yours yet ironically when TaeNy doesn't meet eye to eye for a split second everyone's going crazy thinking that they're fighting.

It's a group of 9 people. It's normal at one point or another to be close to one person then another etc. With that said, Taeyeon and Jessica sure don't seem as close to each other as in the past. But it may be nothing for all we know. A couple of awkward looks and lack of fanservice doesn't automatically mean they hate each other (or as what the fandom believes, Taeyeon hates Jessica and she tries desperately to catch her attention while Taeyeon ignores her smh). And I wouldn't go as far as to call them acquaintances. I mean, is this even possible? They've been through together so much, bonds like theirs don't break that easily.
