Everyone knows what SNSD has achieved as a group, their milestones are unmatched and legendary. But as individuals they've also reached new heights and kept evolving:

Tiffany is now fully planning on expanding to America. There's no other idol out there that is doing it (well there is one but it's been many many years and nothing much to show). It's only a matter of time before she gets her teeth into something whereter it's singing or acting.

Sooyoung has getting cfs left and right, invited to international events and now moving to international/Japanese films.

Seohyun has been a little more quiet activity wise but how many celebs, let alone idols can say they were reps from their country with headliner roles during peace events on more than one occasion? Now she's getting into acting again and probably more activies will follow.

Those are those ones that left SM and look at them. Most idols would kill to have such careers while still part of their label or group because leaving would be career suicide in most circumstances. TSS did all that without the backing of a huge label and only in a few months. And they say SNSD members are nothing without SM...

Then there's the SM gang who are also just as successful:

Taeyeon is one of the biggest solos around and she alone can out sell and good bigger tours than most other entire ggs.

Yoona is the darling of Korea and Asia. Cfs, acting, modelling and even a tv star. She's got it all.

Hyoyeon is a variety star and is pushing herself as a musical artist into fields that vast majority haven't touched. You could argue right now, Hyoyeon as a DJ is the most musically unique idol around.

Sunny is the go TV female idol. Super experienced at hosting or presenting it's no wonder she's in high demand.

Yuri is slightly an enigma. She does almost everything from music and TV to acting and cfs but so far hasn't quiiiite found her area of expertise. But that isn't bad, she's at least doing lots of stuff and she'll find her calling soon and own it.

And there you have it. Very few groups manage to have 1 or 2 members with long lasting and succesful solo careers. Less have an idol the level of someone Taeyeon or Yoona. But how many groups can say were every member has a solid career like SNSD even without falling back in the almighty SNSD name. The group is in hiatus but the members are still at the top of their game as pioneers and stalwarts.

I remember aw years ago the were some critics/experts predicting future/post SNSD careers, and they said apart from Taeyeon and Yoona, the rest would have middling careers not amounting to much. Must've had a lot of showers to get the egg of their faces :har:

Tiffany :rlytearpls: :rlytearpls: Forever the biggest Sone. When they all meet up again it's gonna break the kpop internet

TTS is just another example of what an all time great SNSD is. Having a sub unit that is totally different from their main group and still being bigger than 90% of ggs out there.

Also Fany likes infinity war it seems. It's breaking records left and right, fans absolutely love it (some of the critics are total fucking idiots though - ofc the film seems hollow and just action after action if you don't bother to watch, follow or even like the rest of the films and characters in the franchise) and pulling off things that were thought to be impossible like a shared universe..... And I still haven't seen it because my dumbass friends couldn't decide when to book tickets together and ended up losing seats   Every site is now a danger for me in case of spoilers :soul:

BOI! You almost gave me a heart attack, I read "infinity war" and thought you would spoil something but I still kept reading xD

Thank Jesus you didn't.. Good luck avoiding the spoilers I haven't seen it yet as well. I'm waiting few days so that there would be less ppl in the cinema :D

Also Tiffany is truly the biggest Sone out there, bigger than us even ilikeitplz.png

Lol no way, I'd never spoil it, I'm a huge marvel fan (if people haven't noticed by now lol) so I wouldn't do others dirty. Besides I haven't seen it yet. Even if I did I wouldn't spoil since I HATE having things spoiled for me.

But yeah infinity war is next level, avoiding spoilers is goddamn hard. I literally haven't been on YouTube and use Twitter since Thursday, when review embargo lifted. The last time I opened YouTube the first like 10 videos were infinity war related, some probably were spoiolers. And fucking Forbes are massive assholes, they posted an article full of spoilers and that's been going round on Twitter by both trolls and people accidentally thinking it was a review.

Oh, man, I tend to be pretty lukewarm on the Marvel stuff. That said, I thought Purple Shrek and The Avengers Infinity War was pretty good!

Man, I would love to see a Soshi member get cast in a film like that. Which member do you cast and what superhero role do you give her?

When a non fan likes IW you know it's damn good :fyeah:

Yeah I've been saying this for ages since Tiffany said she's going for acting in America, I'd LOVE for her to be in the MCU in some form. SNSD and Marvel colliding would be dream come true for me.

I dunno characters though, there aren't many high profile females in Marvel and the ones that are may not be available like Susan storm or she Hulk etc. I guess someone like quasar from guardians galaxy comics could be doable? She's a powerful mage type like scarlet witch.

Yuri as the sexy black cat from Spider-man

SpiderMan-BlackCat_cover.jpg

(Kinda tough finding a non super suggestive pic of her lol)

Hyoyeon as female Thor (minus the height though lol)

I remember when the first pics of Lyon heart came I thought it was so boring. Who wants to see SNSD in old fashioned clothes? But only after a couple reveals of the members i thought holy fuck, the girls look gorgeous. The whole concept was so mature and different from what everyone else was doing but still had the signature SNSD charm.

Soshi really is that group that can pull off anything and make it their own.

Yoona song is so soothing. She's pretty much a ballad singer now, Taeyeon her watch her back lol

And look at that iTunes domination. Recently SNSD's 2 weakest singers managed to wreck shit up, SNSD are that gg.

So for getting a bit political and downtrodden but:

While we've always known that women in Korea generally aren't as well of as men, over recent months that observation has become more apparent. The metoo movement showed a lot of sexual harassment goes on not just with higher ups but also people on the same level (eg actor to actor), rape is very hard to prove, any sort of feminism action even by proxy (eg simply reading a book from a feminist writer) is hated on and ofc freaking death threats as a national past time (this time against Suzy for supporting a women who was sexually harassed of all things).

Tbh it makes you wonder how SNSD became such a dominanting force in an industry and country were so much crap can happen to women including underage trainees. It makes me think, even fear, that the girls themsleves may have been subjected to since of those issues despite all their success and influence. Taeyeon mentioned once in star king that a famous older male celeb would keep pestering her via phone and text to get together with him. There was also a suspicious incident were it looked like Jessica was touched inappropriately right on stage in full view of everyone. Who knows if there were more but the girls never spoke up or were in a position to speak up.

I dunno maybe I'm being paranoid and nothing much happened to them but with all that's gone in in the industry it makes you think

It's been less than a year since Sooyoung left SM and already she's had lots of new endorsements, more magazine shoots, done project with the French singer, new drama, Japanese movie, having a fanmeet soon and she even has her own light stick!

And they said SNSD members would be nothing without SM and SNSD :imstupid:

I'm wondering something. Sooyoung sang sailing at her meet. But doesn't SM own that song (and SM being dicks I feel they would limit TSS access to SNSD songs right)? Or because she wrote it does it mean she co-owns the song so she has more leeway with it?

I think there is generally fair usage laws (?) when it comes to performing/recording covers of songs - you don't need an agreement/license to do so. But the venue you are performing has to have a music performance licence.

Even though it's technically not a cover (because she is part of the original recording artist and she cowrote) - there wouldn't be anything stopping her from performing it or any other song iirc. That and he fact the TSS left on good terms and everyone has acknowledged that they are still SNSD probably means that if they did in fact need permission SM would let them.

Yeah thatd be normal but lets be honest SM isnt really known for being fair, even to artists that are under them at the time. Also I dont think SM has 100% officially said that SNSD is 8, its been the girls themselves and a couple 3rd parties that have stated. SM has only made passing remarks or actions to suggest theyre 8 (the exhibition, saying SNSD members under SM are going to France etc).

Doesn't her still being an SNSD member automatically give her right to all SNSD songs?

Its SM. They can be shit heads. But thankfully there hasnt been anything to suggest they screwed TSS in any way so far so probably is me overthinking things lol

From browsing another thread I remembered this iconic smash

Taeyeon: you're in luck, I'm coming out with something new!

M: oh cool, I wonder when we'll get actual info about it like the song name

T: i just did, something new is coming

M: yes I know, but I want to know what this new thing is gonna be

T: something new!!

M: I know it's gonna be something new obviously. I wanna know what it actually is

T: THE FUCKING SONG IS CALLED SOMETHING NEW

M: oh..... Why didn't you just say that in the first place then

Isn't it funny how SNSD are busier now despite being split up and not promoting as a group than they were last year?

- Taeyeon CB and tour

- Tiffany starting her American adventure and CB

- Seohyun drama and politics

- Sooyoung dramas and cfs

- Yoona fanmeet tour and usual cfs

- Yuri new song

- Sunny more TV appearances than you can name

- Hyoyeon new song and semi tour

I think it really shows how SM lost the plot regarding SNSD. There's so much potential with all them and SM was wasting most of them and ofc the massive fuck ups with group activities.

Those rankings doesn't mean anything when it comes to popularity/fanbase. Tbh it's a bit weird that everyone is wasting time getting mad at SM or the manager when the real takeaway from what Yuri said should've been that WE as fans have to work harder to show that we're here to support her.

Are we talking about Yuri's manager saying she hasn't had a fab meet because not enough people may come? I don't think it's up to fans to work harder, it's clearly her manager/SM being dickholes.

Look at Sooyoung, she's obviously not Taeyeon or Yoona level of popularity and one of the less popular SNSD members but since moving agency look how much more active she is: got a new movie, new drama, news cfs, new merch (including her own official light stick) and recently had her own fan meet which was a sell out. That was her label giving her opportunities and she and fans taking them. Sooyoung is being treated like a highly valued person at her new label, a stark contrast to when she was at SM.

You can't have a fan meet if it's not organised by someone, in most cases that's the labels freaking job and clearly Yuri is getting screwed over if that's the shitty excuse given. Everyone knows she could sell out a fan meet, she did her bday events with no problem and went to events organised by companies she endorsed and there were lots of fans attending. SM is being an ass as usual.

Yes and yet... the 5 in SM still chose to stay.

We all know SM are massive misogynistic dickheads who treats their idols like cattle, they don't even treat Yoona and Taeyeon right either despite their massive popularity, but until the girls leave Shitty Management there's NOTHING we as fans can do about it except try harder to get them what they deserve.

But that's the thing, how do you show actual support (not just spamming on SNS) if the girls don't get activies in the first place? Things like buying music, attending concerts, fan meets, merch etc are good ways to show popularity but if those opportunities aren't provided them how can fans show they're here? Yuri doesn't have an album (which was confirmed 2 years ago and supposed to come out last year...), she's not held a concert, she's not in TV regularly etc. You can't try harder if there's no opportunity to try in the first place thanks to SM not giving a shit Edited by silicon soul

There was an opportunity to show our support with Always Find You and we did poorly. A lot of people here including me complained then that if we didn't support her better we might not get a solo album from her, but we still sucked.

She IS on TV regularly - Talk To You 2, the fact that you don't know that she is says it all.

We need to do better as fans when the opportunity arises.

This is honestly like how many international kpop fans are with f(x) Luna, everyone hypes her and complains that she doesn't get more opportunities/popularity etc but when she actually releases something people hardly support her.

Yuri has only had 1 proper solo release (not counting OSTs), cant judge her future on only 1 result (and personally i dint really like it outside Yuri's verses). Hyoyeon had 2 mediocre performing solo releases, for all intents and purposes SM might've stopped her career right there but then she reinvented herself as DJ Hyo and came back with Sober which did really well internationally (sadly Korea slept on it) as fans responded really well to it and is now semi touring as a DJ. If her first 2 singles determined her future then we might never have gotten this new Hyoyeon and her potential album coming up (though knowing SM that album may not be coming). Same with Yuri, she might have a banger career but we'll never know if its nipped in the bud this early.

When I mean regularly I mean she appears a lot on TV as a main attraction, be that as a special guest on a popular tv show or staring in a drama. From what I've read its mostly a talk show where Yuri is one panelist of many rather being the main focus, not really my cup of tea. Compare that with Yoona on Hyori homesaty, Hyoyeon on secret unnie and Sunny on Real life and Video Star (and whatever else shes done, man shes on a lot of shows) where they get lots of screen time and publicity. However Yuri does have her drama coming out which shes been filming for what feels like ages so that should boost her publicity.

As for Luna shes only had 1 proper solo release, Free Somebody. Other than that shes mostly had station releases which doesnt have the best track record of scoring hits (one of which was free somebody collab this year which seems like a waste instead of a brand new song). Seems unfair to halt her career just over one album but that's what happened. There's been lots of others solos from other groups as well who have had average or worse outings too so it's not like Luna is the only idol who gets hyped but doesn't do that well (Tayang for example was huge but his recent cb was a massive underachievement, does that mean he doesn't deserve another chance? Ofc not it's taeyang). Plus at the end of the day of Luna or any other idol doesn't do well it just affects them, it shouldn't dictate other idols' careers (eg if Luna doesn't do well it shouldn't mean someone from SNSD doesn't get a chance either).
