The songs in this mini album imo:

Mr. Mr.= Europa = Goodbye > Wait a Minute = Soul > Backhug.

TBH this whole entire comeback has not gone well. It's such a shame especially because Mr. Mr. is a solid track imo.

I was accepted to study abroad at Seoul National University for the spring semester ^^ I'll be there until the middle of June! I'm sooo excited. I'm hoping I'll get to see the girls at some kind of concert while I'm there!

I remember your telling us that in the beginning of 2014. Anyway, have fun and enjoy Korea for us! Hope you'll have a wonderful time.

I hate it that I wasn't here to join the shitstorm of the eventual release of Mr. Mr. MV.

At first watch, I was left dumbfounded. The MV is weird to say the least. If IGAB is a discordant sound, which actually was appealing to me, this Mr. Mr. MV is jarring due to the editing and combination of independent, disconnected themes. I watched it again, hoping to make some sense out of the video. Again, I was left dumbfounded. What was I supposed to take from this? What was I supposed to look for in the video? There were moments when I thought the execution was slick. For example, the scene where the girls are doing the surgery: the shot of Sunny, Hyoyeon and Yoona's head entering the view and staring at the patient, the shot of the girls' hands clutching the patient's coat, and the dying candle flame. I get the point that the video is supposed to be artistic, and symbolic, but the editing did not result to a clear plot, especially with the inclusion of the girls dancing in the parking lot. I learned later that the video is rife with the patient's delusions, and understood why the inclusion of themes other than nurses were necessary. Now, I see the video in a new light. I thought it was brilliant, however I'm adamant with my opinion that the poor editing hinders a clear plot, thus leaving viewers confused. A smoother, clearer transitions would have produced a more logical plot and video. Perhaps the rush to complete the video resulted to this messier product?

I am so used to seeing the girls dancing that the minimal shots of the girls dancing was a shock. I'm not sure about how I feel about this to be honest. For me, I always like to watch their dance performance so that I can associate the song to the dance movements. I'm hoping for a dance video. With regards to the dance, I wish that the girls were more on-point and crisp with their movements. The dance break was not as epic as The Boys Spiderman Dance, but it seems that the girls move the most during that part? I'm not too sure. The dance is simple, which is fine since GENIE is simple as well. I think that they wanted to break away from the demanding IGAB choreography. But, exactly because of this simple choreography that the girls have to be synchronous like how they were during Hoot. I know I'm going to get a flak for this, but Tiffany's movement during the dance break somewhat annoys me. I love her. She's one of my bias. I totally get how competitive and hardworking this angel really is. But, Tiffany, please, please, please, be more on point during the dance break. I don't care if you're not during the other parts. I feel that the dance break is one of the pivotal moments in the song, thus should be accompanied with fierce movements.

All in all, SM needs to take A LOT of notes from this comeback. It's injustice, especially after watching TVXQ's Spellbound MV, which blew my mind. I always believe in my girls, and I support them forever. After all, it was their personality that reeled me in as a hardcore fan, not their music and dance. I wish them lots of luck, and let's not let this kink stop us from our global domination.

Still think both Trick and Oscar are terribly overrated. Prefer Oscar a little more but wouldn't put either of those songs in my top 20 SNSD songs.

Each to his or her own man. Personally, TRICK is one of my top 10 tracks from SNSD.

Hey guys!

FML, I have been COMPLETELY out of the SNSD (or anything in fact) loop since Friday as I've been busty over the weekend so I missed pretty much everything - I didnt even know the MV was released until a few hours ago and I missed the Twitch Plays Pokemon being completed

Actually the way I found out is a funny story, its a bit OT and about Katy Perry so you can skip if you want

my sister likes Katy Perry and she knows about me liking SNSD but she's sorta like "ugh" about it (you know like how you have someone go on about someone/something and you tune out because you dont know or care). Anyway, she shows me a pic of SNSD and Katy Perry and my sis is saying Katy is wearing McDonalds clothing (when i first saw her dress I couldnt stop laughing for ages LOL). But the funny thing is she says that katy is standing next to a group of, and I quote, "extremely pretty girls, seriously they're very pretty"......I then give my "I'm about to own you" smirk and say its SNSD. My sister's face went all like "Oh crap I just complimented that stupid group that my awesome brother is obsessed with" and doesnt say a word after that.

Anyway, since I'm one of the few Sones on the planet who hadn't seen it, I'll do a quick review (BTW I havent even looked at this thread since I last posted because it's a spoiler minefield for me, so just humour me when I point out the obvious or am bringing back up old stuff):

  • The girls look FANTASTIC. Seriously, they all look spectacular. Hyoyeon especially stood out the most to me. Sooyoung and Jessica were radiant too.
  • Their dresses looked really pretty too, especially when they're walking through the corridor near the end and their manly ones. There was also what seemed like IGAB inspired clothes during the 1st chorus which looked cool.
  • The mannish concept was actually true after all - and damn they looked good. They really pulled it off well (RIP fan girls )
  • I've mentioned this about teasers before but the whole pink and blue colour scheme is really eye catching. It looks terrific
  • From what I saw of the dance, it looks slick as hell.

Its not all good news though

  • The SFX got a bit annoying. The blurring, the lens flare and the out of focus shots started to get in the way of actually enjoying the MV. I get they were going for a "drugged up patient thing" (I think) but damn the editor went over board. Its like giving photoshop to a complete noob and seeing them add every effect possible thinking they're doing a good job.
  • WHERE WAS THE DANCING?! SNSD have some awesome and iconic dances, so why only something like 20 seconds worth, most of it in b/w dammit!? This was a huge bummer, especially during the dance break, most of it was in shadow
  • There was a like a pseudo story going on right? Bring guy in, drug him and........that's it? Seriously, they cut dancing just to keep weak story going?

In all, Im giving it an 7/10. The lack of dancing from a group like SNSD and the mildly annoying effects kinda impeded the MV. The girls themselves and the hint of dancing are practically the only reasons why I rated the MV such a decent score. I honestly cant believe SM delayed it for it to turn out so........incomplete....yeah thats a good word to describe it - its missing a few key of elements that make it a SNSD MV.

IMO IGAB is like the prefect SNSD MV: lots of close-ups and clothes swaps, colourful and vibrant as hell, lots of dancing and even a teeny tiny bit of story just to round it off

Well with that done, I'm gonna be backtracking the 70 or so pages I've missed. Anything significant I missed (I'm only aware of the concert in Japan atm)?

See you in a while

That's basically what I said as well. But, I had time to ruminate and I think that all the effects and the minimal dancing shots are important. I really feel like the video is trippy, weird and incoherent. That's the point. Hallucination, and dream tend to not make sense. *shrugs* Had the editors had more time to edit the video, I think the product would have been better?

Yeah I've watched it a few more times since posting and what you say does make sense, its meant to be trippy. But it still kinda seems, I dunno, lacking in "anchor" points. If you look at almost any SNSD MV, you know where the dances are, where you fave pops up, where something funny/silly happens etc so you can zip around the MV at key moments either when watching it or remembering it.

In Mr Mr, its all kinda scrambled up. Other than the girls looking nice, there aren't any real "wow"/key moments. It kinda reminds me of some western MVs which is just them singing/rapping while doing an activity (eg Moves like Jagger is damn catchy song but the MV is forgettable even though there’s lot of stuff going on, theres nothing that ingrains itself into your mind). People may hate on box MVs esp in Kpop but sometimes there’s a reason why people remember them more than some story MVs, they contain very memorable moments. Just my 2pence

Yeah, I feel you. For me, the anchor points or at least, the memorable moments, of the video are when the girls are conducting the surgery. I just love, love, love the shots. It's weird, then, because I'm so used to associating their songs to a particular dance shot, or a beautiful, flawless solo shot. This time, I associate the song to a grim, sterile set and action. It's weird. But, I like it. #newgg

If not for the data loss, It would have been glorious as fuck.

Like this girl.

tumblr_n1udxjIjvy1r6mutco1_250.gif

IKR! I'm still mad that the lost happened. Ugh. I feel like their dress and hairdo were way better before the stupid data lost. Oh well.

I know  :) I tend to go against the beaten path (I think Run Devil Run is also basic) so perhaps I'm just abnormal lol. The Boys was definitely my favorite song on that album.

Sometimes, I also think that I tend to against the general opinion. I also think that RDR is basic lol I really love IGAB on the first listen, which didn't happen to many of us. I have to say though that The Boys album is my least favorite. I just can't stand My J and Lazy Girl lol

This.

Gonna rant for a second so feel free to skip.

The most frustrating thing to me is that SM never seems to learn. Either that or they just don't care. The fact that SNSD has been able to stay as popular as they have for as long as they have is amazing considering how much SM half-asses everything relating to SNSD. They take the group and fandom for granted and it is extremely disrespectful to the girls with the way they have been mismanaged in Korea for the past three years. I think there was a thread on here a few months back about this. Since 2011, as a group SNSD has only promoted one song in Korea for one month. imo, it is completely unacceptable for the National Girl Group to promote once every 12-14 months. SM is lucky no one has had a 'Gee' moment because they are, and have been, leaving the door wide open for someone else to swoop in and steal that NGG title.

SNSD has not peaked, SNSD is not over. They still have an amazing brand and can pull in an insane amount of viewers for any show they're on. They have been at or near the top of the Forbes top 40 celebrity list for years and their music sales STILL rival (and even top) boy groups even with SM's shitty management. The only thing wrong with SNSD right now is SM. If I hadn't witnessed the carelessness with which they have been handling everything related to this comeback, I wouldn't even believe it. The biggest entertainment company in Korea losing MV footage because they didn't make a backup. You can't make that up. Embarrassing.

The biggest problem I have is that SM won't admit to making any mistakes. Anything that happens to SNSD because of this comeback is on the girls. SM will take all the credit for the girls' successes, but never responsibility for their own management mistakes. If this comeback isn't successful (though I think it will be), they'll just write it off as "Oh, SNSD must not be as popular as they used to be" instead of "Oh wow, we really fucked up, we should do something to fix that." One of these days that mentality is going to come back and bite them when another girl group steals the spotlight because of their carelessness. SM will be SNSD's downfall, not SNSD themselves.

We have seen time and time again that SNSD has the potential to be global. Every comeback they have garners more international attention. The sky is the limit for them. I honestly think they have the potential to be international superstars, even more so than they already are.

They're being held back by a management company that honestly does not seem to care about them. It sounds silly to say since they make SM so much money, so of course SM cares. At this point though, what other reason could there possibly be? SM only wants SNSD for the money they bring in from their fans. They give SNSD a comeback when they need money to fund their other groups and then send them off to Japan on tour after tour to make more money for the company. This comeback has proven that they do not seem to care one bit about SNSD's longevity and that is just sad considering how much potential they have to be even more than they already are.

Since 2011, SM has not been the reason for SNSD's success. Sones and SNSD themselves have been the reason for SNSD's success. The girls have been successful despite SM, not because of them.

It's frustrating watching all of this happen and knowing that there is nothing we can do about it. If we stop buying albums, SM will blame the girls. If we buy albums, it is basically allowing SM to keep treating the girls the way they have. I don't have a solution, and I don't know if there is one. The only thing we can really do is keep supporting the girls so they know we are in their corner.

Sorry for the rant, but I just needed to get it out. It's something to think about when hearing SM's plans for other groups and debuting new groups. imo they have no business debuting a new group later this year with the farce they have made of this comeback.

Anyway, if you're sad cheer yourself up with this :)

This so much.

I talked with my Thai friend who is a casual SONE, and she told me that SM is slowing SNSD down because SM wants to debut another group to replace SNSD. I mean, I take that with a grain of salt. I don't see why SM wants to do that, and I always wonder why SM doesn't want to push SNSD when SNSD has what it takes to become international stars. Sometimes, I think maybe SM wants the older or senior artists like Boa and TVXQ to be successful first. It's like if SNSD becomes way more famous than the their seniors, SM wouldn't like that. *shrug* I don't know. But, I agree with you when you said you don't know if there's a solution for this.

I'm literally sad that there won't be OT9 again this year. Like, I can't. I really like TTS, or any sub-unit, but man, OT9 is the best.

For me the best songs are Europa and Goodbye. The songs are not masterpieces but for some reason they make me so happy.

OMG me too! Those songs sing to me at a spiritual level. I feel like Goodbye is like a calm way to say F U World!

I just had the time to watch MNET performance. I really like the choreo OMG I mean, it's not IGAB difficulty, but the formation is awesome! It reminds me of TGE a little bit but calmer since Mr Mr's tempo is slower. Am I the only one that like the male backup dancers? I thought it gives another interesting layer to the choreography. I wish there's more full shot of the choreography so that we can better appreciate the intricacy.

I also think that some male backup dances are hot lol

I seriously am not taking any more shit from SONEs saying the girls are complacent etc. They freaking cried tonight. Sunny didn't even sing her part because she's crying. They still love performing, work hard, and care about SONEs.
