Other than that, all I really want is for our girls to be happy, healthy, and to stay close with each other. And if SM the company stands in the way of that end, I will never forgive them.

Anyway:

Is Girls’ Generation In Danger?

By Staff Writer | March 04, 2014 10:23 AM EST

Girls' Generation has not been doing as well as expected with their latest comeback.

Is Girls' Generation in trouble for the first time since their debut? They had a puzzling half comeback, and only stayed for a short while at the top of music charts. What could have happened to Korea's leading girl group?

Like Us on Facebook

Girls' Generation is one of Korea's top girl groups. Last year they were praised for "I Got a Boy," in Korea as well as in the global market. They then released their latest new song "Mr.Mr" on February 24th.

Although it's still too early to make conclusions, "Mr.Mr" has been met with a lackluster response compared to their previous songs. As expected, the song shot to the top of MelOn music charts as soon as it was released, but it was quickly taken over bySISTAR Soyou and Junggigo's collaboration song "Some." It's quite different from their previous records of taking all kills across major music charts. They also were overtaken by 2NE1's comeback on the 26th.

Girls' Generation's latest comeback had a lot of stuff going on with it. Before their comeback, it was announced that their music video data was damaged. They had to delay their comeback. Not only that, their song was pre-released via Japan's iTunes market. Five hours before their music release they announced their official comeback, all without a music video. When we consider that idols appeal to the public in both their music (songs) and visuals (music video, music programs), they had sort of a 'half comeback.' Surely it's difficult to satisfy fans with only one of those sources.

Although they weren't able to achieve as great of a score with their latest comeback, Girls' Generation is, after all, till Girls' Generation. They still were praised for "Mr.Mr," and when the postponed music video was finally released on the 28th, people were saying, "They're still ever Girls' Generation." The global response for this song was faster than ever before. Billboard commented that Girls' Generation is "arguably one of the biggest girl groups in the world, not just in K-pop."

Girls' Generation is standing at a crossroads. They went further than Japan and opened upNorth America pathways, and global standards are a top priority for the group. They needed music that could appeal to a wide variety of music fans worldwide, and delivered with "Mr.Mr." It was a choice Girls' Generation made with the future in mind. Currently the music video for "Mr.Mr" already has over 5.2 million views.

Now that Girls' Generation has released their song and music video, they have only to present their performance on music program stages. They've always come out with striking choreography and unprecedented stage concepts, and appealed to fans with their strong vocal skills. Will they be able to turn the tables? The fans are in great anticipation of Girls' Generation's music program comeback.

I haven't really backtracked and read the general consensus of sones on here but I have to say that for me the girls mnet countdown performance was unfortunately very lackluster. I'm actually legit disappointed with how incredibly dull everything was. What's up with the boring outfits, the stage, and choreography? I mean I did enjoy the close-ups of the girls and the singing was good + the girls looked gorgeous as per usual but UGH :(

Idk, but I'm accustomed to better things for the girls from sm.

I feel the same. I thought it was okay. I'm not really a fan of the outfits (I like the idea/concept but not the actual clothing items chosen, like those jeans and ties  :wth:) But I think it's the choreo that isn't making truly enjoy the stage. It had its moments but overall it was extremely dull. Some people may argue that it has to be easy since the song is a bit hard to sing but the problem is that the choreo is just not memorable and is so basic. It's possible to have simple choreo that can actually be good and memorable moments, as shown with Genie, Oh, etc. This dance lacks the wow factor that SNSD's normally have. Even the dance break looks boring. Besides the cufflinks move there isn't really many highlights to the dance (except that one move during Yuri's part where everyone comes out behind, that part is epic). I appreciate what they were trying to do by adding the backup dancers but I just wasn't feeling it. A part of me was just hoping Jillian Meyers was going to prove me wrong and produce a somewhat good dance routine but yet again I have been proven wrong. Reminder that this is just my opinion/constructive criticism.

However with everything that they were given I think the put an amazing stage. The girls put on a great performance given with what they're working with and they looked amazing.

Noooooo not crying.  :horror: I'm surprised to see Sunny cry, she normally doesn't cry for wins (especially music show wins). I think the last time I saw her cry for an award was when they won that daesang a while ago, I might be wrong though.

They must have really went through a lot of hardships for this comeback to cry like this.  Even more of a reason to appreciate the girls efforts.

Can you guys listen to my Mr. Mr. cover and give me some advice? :) I wrote the lyrics myself, they're English although not very good. My voice was certainly straining after trying so many times and my voice does crack the higher I get, since I added a lot more key changes. :rip:

Anyway, do enjoy. :)

Wow your voice is amazing! If you make more covers I'll definitely listen  :)

I was at the korean market in my city today with my mom to get food and while I was waiting to get some meat I overheard some older korean moms discussing SNSD's comeback. They were talking about how they didn't like the song but they enjoyed the performances because of their concept (the suits) and how they didn't have to wear so little and still looked amazing (they started shading other girl groups, it was pretty funny lol) and how the song grew on them a bit. I heard one of them say they were impressed in korean.

I felt like a proud mother while I was waiting for the butcher to weigh the meat I was buying.  :datass:

so aside from m-countdown, only 3 left music shows for this week right? but i'm not sure we're gonna win on inkigayo..

Yeah I don't think theyre going to win inkigayo but I'm pretty sure they got Music Bank and Music Core. I'm pretty confident they'll win today too on m-countdown. Plus I think if music core does decide to give an award for last week (they didnt last week since it was a special episode) I'm pretty sure the girls would be able to leave music core with two trophies this week.
