Well, I think a bar was set and then ... I dunno, think of it like TVs, cars or calculators. When they were all first new and shiny and relatively unknown products, very few people would own them and even then, you'd have to shell out a LOT of money in order to just have ONE of them. But this apparent luxuriousness appealed to lots of people because it was a new advancement that was appealing on oh so many levels to oh so many people (even if they could never afford to own their own).

But now? These products could potentially be a dime a dozen (oh hai hazee's 1st world POV) -- or much more attainable by a wider range of potential markets and potential buyers. All because of their growth in popularity, exposure to numerous markets around the world, evolving the product to maintain appeal over potential competitors, etc.

And what once was possibly "special" in terms of product or availability has then became something convenient to attain and convenient to replace if needed. The "special" aspect that every human is an idiot sucker for is removed.

So yeah, the bar is still there and met, but it's time to move onto setting another presedence for themselves or else they'll just be another calculator on a shelf.

Did I really compare SNSD to a calculator business motif? I AM CLEARLY WISE BEYOND MY WRINKLES

Are you sure you haven't stopped taking your meds? The doctors say it's best to stay on them, unless you want to meet an untimely demise like our beloved GMILF Ruth. Blessed be her name.  :chu: jk You know I appreciate your menopausal insightful monologues.

I know that you like old SNSD material over their recent move away from the traditional kpop song blueprint. I like their old stuff too, but I'd gag if they went back to their lollipop waving days. And from the perspective of SM, I think it's more experimental rather than complacency. I think the were trying to set a new trend, stand out from the crowd and lead the way--in other words, get them to the next level--rather than throwing 5 songs together last minute, even though that might've been what it sounded like.

So what are your favorite snsd songs btw since I've only seen your disdain for their recent singles.

I posted this in another thread but I'll paste it here since it sums up my feelings:

In terms of maturity, the group takes 1 step forward and then 2 steps back. There isn't a coherent evolution.
Part of the fanbase - mostly Korean and Japanese it seems - want them to stay with the cutesy aegyo concepts while the other part wants them to grow up for good. The division between the two is apparent in basically everything they do. They have to put out songs like My J and Say Yes to counteract Oscar and Trick. They release Japanese Oh!, Beep Beep, and Love&Girls to balance out their other Japanese singles.
As "experimental" as IGAB may seem, the whole chorus is still repetitive, monotonous, and hookish - i got a boy munchin, i got a boy chicken, i got a boy fjalfkjajlfa, i got a boy asadfalhjlfa. Korea's producers are stuck in a major rut - from SM to YG to Brave Bros. Kenzie [the genius behind ITNW] was one of SM's best producers and now she's putting out songs like Why So Serious and Wolf... like do I even need to say more? There needs to be a balance between bland/generic (Yoohoo, Love&Girls) and clusterfuck/chaos (WYN, IGAB).
If you look outside of the SNSD fandom, people seriously question how deserving SNSD is of their current top dog status. And I can't say I disagree.

2neways...
fave Soshi songs are Destiny, Show!x3, Wake Up, you-aholic, Oscar, Express 69, and Reflection.
what about you?

Just my two cents.

there is often no logic when to stanning Idols. If you love the Idol so much, you just want the best for them, regardless of whether it has been done before or not, or whether its within the capability or desires of that Idol.

There is often no rational, becos fans just wanna see more of their Idol, and more success come to them, and in the way the fans desire. they also don't see the possibility of failure , becos simply put, SNSD has been successful literally non-stop.

hence the belief that if SM lets them do it, its bound to succeed.

They are fans, ( literally, fanatics ) , they aren't businessmen or CEOs or even rational thinking adults. Most Kpop fans are young teens with little knowledge of the real entertainment world.

You gotta understand, or you will always be butting heads with some people here.  -_-

Except wanting the best for your favorite idols - and not the pockets of stockholders - is completely rational...

!!!! shush, I was working on a self-deprecating tag line, hear me out:

Never have the fundamental mettle of SONE fandom, SONE knowledge and SONE agenda been delving deeply into previously deeply explored topics of previous deeply passionate exploration by deeply stubborn individuals who are deeply on the opposite sides of the SONE spectrum ... before.

Hm, the grammar and phrasing could use a little work, but It would last for pages and for pages, luring out the refuse of the posters in this thread who only want to come in to be assholes, anyway, and then everyone would feel validation and purpose in their pursuit of SNSD glory \o/

Think of the potential, stormykins, think of your bias and of what you could help achieve  :ilove:

I'll shut up and stop rocking the pink boat of tranquility once Hyoyeon dyes her hair back2black...

translation: never!

#kekeke

btw I hope you're doing well. We don't talk 2nemore!

Your logic is rational but it does not necessarily mean the best for the group.

Denying the girls want they have explicitly expressed interest in - more singing lines, subunit opportunities, creative freedom - is certainly not best for the group.

Unless you think of the group as a unit instead of the 9 girls that make it up.

.

As I mentioned in the first post on this page, when the girls' explicit interests are being denied, that is all I need to know to be dissatisfied.

You can continue to be complacent like most fans. I don't really care. But I would appreciate it if people who do voice their opinions aren't told to shut up and go along with the Kool-aid drinking.

Also, I don't see the problem with more equal distribution of lines - what exactly is the argument against this?

dmn's stance is that "Sooyoung and Yoona having boring voices" and that the girls became popular without equal line distribution so we should accept it.

.

If you can't tell when I'm being serious and when I'm messing around after over a year of exposure to my radiant ways, I don't know what to tell you. I mean we've been through this time and time again. When I take the time to write paragraphs worth in an artist's thread, I'm fully earnest in what I say.

This thread needs to find a happy medium between walls of pics/gifs with walls of discussion, without going overboard on either one.

Storm pls use your mass manipulatjon mind control tellepussy on Lee Soo Man to control his actions and make him take the Botox away from Tiffany pls

I'd rather take the pee hairdye bottles away from Whoyawn.

Disappointed the HyoRi dance show is the girls helping contestants dance instead of dancing themselves. I need Star Dance Battle back in my life.

Watched the Reflection performance from the Japan tour broadcast. Only reason it was nicer than the fancam version is because they focused away from the shitty choreo and on the flashing stage lights for distraction.

Things on my prayer list:

1. Sunny to stay away from every pair of scissors within a 5 mile radius for the next year.

2. Hyoyeon to dip her hair in a bucket of brown paint.

3. People in this thread to gain a sense of humor when it comes to Robert/Sooyoung's posts. Y'all wouldn't last a day if SNSD actually end up promoting in America because you'll have to deal with his no-holds-barred style of posting from people that don't like the group.

I never knew being condescending towards people was haha funny. Must be a new kind of humor we should learn to adopt right?

Who said it was humor #tho

That's just how people post in the world of Western pop artist stan wars (Beyonce vs. Britney vs. Lady Gaga, etc.) and that's where he comes from.

You should be able to read underneath the layers of sass to get the underlying point.

Unnie, don't do this to me. My brain's completely fried after finals.

Actually you did when you said "3. People in this thread to gain a sense of humor when it comes to Robert/Sooyoung's posts."

Also, what is his underlying point then? Like his comments to a new person Janny here. Robert's points are right and Janny's are worthless and shit? So people in the world of Western pop artist fans are high school idiots that like to insult each other online?

Ok then, you don't have to find his posts funny. I personally find them amusing.

My point is y'all should lighten up and see what he's trying to say instead of simply dismissing him as a troll or an anti.

ex: Calling Love&Girls "Lurv&Gonorrhea" and pointing out how it's flopping isn't malicious. It's his way of mocking the song as low-quality filler not deserving to be released a single and more importantly unworthy of SNSD.

Ok, weird how you just asked how his posts are not really humourous in nature, and now you say you find them funny? Conundrum if there ever was.

Here is where I disagree that it isn't malicious. He is more than just mocking, he is CONDESCENDING to other's opinions that go against his. He is acting superior; that he is right; everyone else not with me is completely wrong and just stupid/moronic. I have no problem with him not liking the song(s) that have just recently been released and some parts of his posts. But the manner that he goes about that supposed humor does not work. Its pretty much putting someone down to make yourself look/feel better or important.

You're clinging onto an unimportant detail and missing the point. I find them funny, you don't have to. Ok, let's move on from that because it's not central to the message I'm trying to get across.

His manner of posting is blunt and often rude but that doesn't invalidate what he has to say. dmn isn't exactly butterflies, rainbows, and sunshine but that doesn't mean everything he posts is automatically wrong. [i deserve all the won just for admitting that]

^^^ unless they're the ones dancing, I'm not really stoked #tbh but I appreciate the promo nevertheless.

Not malicious? That might be your interpretation, your opinion...

But this person is clearly wishing for a flop so that it can prove his point. Do you see this? The girls' efforts aren't good enough for him. Without knowing WHY UMJ does what it does, and I would submit that beyond lacking his approval, we can't really say WHY UMJ is doing what it's doing, though the point comes to mind that none of us here are Japanese record company executives and so therefore none of us are better qualified to advise UMJ on how they should be running the girls' promotions, let's keep one thing in mind.

One thing. Okay?

UMJ likes money. I'm pretty sure about this one. SMe does too. So what's changed? Why have their releases had a tentative air to them? What is their focus? Their strategy? Do you know? I don't.

What I see, what I think I know, is that this is a Korean group, basically getting no airplay, no music show appearances, no publicity but what they're ALREADY doing... doesn't that point more towards them being a KOREAN group in an anti-Korean environment? It's a wild thought, but I'll put it out there.

So WISHING for them to flop... helps... SNSD how? HOW IS THIS BEING ANY FUCKING SORT OF FAN?

With fans like this (and a sense of humor I can't fathom, nor do I really want to) does SNSD NEED antis?

The SNSD members themselves are making minimal - if any - money from single sales and it's not like they need the cash, so wishing for a single to flop is not deleterious to their well-being. Since you seem insistent on determining what constitutes a fan, a fan would support what the SNSD members themselves have wanted...which is to be taken seriously as artists and stop with the cutesy childish shit. Love&Girls is the epitome of SNSD's worst excesses, the antithesis to the direction they wish to proceed in, and counterproductive to the image their management has spent a lot of effort trying to move away from (especially in Japan). If L&G flops [which lbr it has], then it discourages their management from continuing down that loathsome path.

Hyoyeon hit 300K followers on instagram

a4BRBGJ.jpg

Yuri's about to catch up, even though she made her instagram months after  #justsaiyan #ot9 #truescone

Really? THAT is your rationale? Then we should be boycotting everything they do that's at all idollike. Idols get no respect, right? So they should disband right quick and go into solo respectable endeavors like acting and writing their own music and then performing it on those shows where solo acts get all the artistic respect?

Cause that's going to happen real soon. Or something. Maybe if we do the Tinkerbell wishing thing?

No. No. They worked to learn the choreo (tho not overly complicated, like FP), learned their lines, went back and forth to Japan and spent their sweat and hours and filmed a PV and you know, WORKED for something to show off, hoping their fans might like it? Maybe? Because obviously their tortured artists souls can't actually want commercial success, I mean really, that's so crass.

'I'm sorry, I know you don't respect this, so I'll HATE IT FOR YOU.' Huh? Is this how you think? The fuck?

Love&Girls isn't "idol-like." It's child-like. If I had no idea who the group was, I'd think they were the Asian equivalent of Kidz Bop.

SNSD can still be idols while doing mature concepts, having creative control, and exercising artistic freedom. Those are the things they've said they want time and time again...not exceeding 30,000 sales of some kawaii summer single.

Rebecca Black spent time, effort, and money on "Friday" but that doesn't mean it deserves support.

:stare: please don't torture me with the hotness of what-could-have-been. i'm scurred she won't even look like that if/when she goes back to brunette.

There aren't "qualifications" to be a true fan. Y'all should remember this

Lies. The official SONE handbook (available on YesAsia for 29.95 USD plus shipping) clearly states on page 69:

"All true fans follow Hyoyeon on instagram."

Tbh. The first time I heard Oh! I was like... dis song definitely about sex

But Gee rhymes with tea, so.  :troll:

With all the "uh uh uh," "ah ah ah," other moans of pleasure, and suggestive dance moves, I don't get how other people didn't catch onto the sexual undertones... Maybe because they were covered up a childish playhouse concept? [that just made it creepy for me and very Lolita. #sayno2pedo]

You know what else rhymes with tea?
