[Drama Review] 'Man to Man' - Episode 1

Meet Kim Seol Woo, aka Agent K, agent extraordinaire. His job is to track down wood carvings that could implicate corrupt chaebol Mo Seung Jae in a finance scandal; they contain details of a slush fund that his grandfather saved for 40 years. Put simply, bribes, cash that is unaccounted for. This wood carving is in the hands of the Russian oil tycoon Chairman Victor. Chairman Victor has ties to Yeo Woon Gwang.

Yeo Woon Gwang is an actor and a spoiled brat. Famous for the bad-boy and villain roles he adopts, he does many of his own stunts, having been a stuntman before he turned to acting.

Woon Gwang's manager is Cha Do Ha, a sasaeng who got a real job to be close to the man she obsesses over. She is also obsessive over keeping him to a strict diet and to keep his lips off of other girls. She also is jealous of Seol Woo, since he showed her up as a bodyguard.

Man to Man: Episode 2

mantoman02-00828.jpg&key=979d46bef1a677b

Now that Secret Agent K has begun his new assignment as our top star’s bodyguard, we’re treated to the beginnings of a beautiful bromance between the two. If this episode is any indication of what’s to come, we have oodles of wrist grabs and life-saving heroics to look forward to in the coming weeks—and who can say no to that? Not me, I say.

EPISODE 2 RECAP

At top star Woon-kwang’s photo shoot, ghost agent Seol-woo grips manager Do-ha against him, while a crowd gathers around them. Seol-woo announces to Woon-kwang that starting today, he’s taking over as the head of security. As Do-ha gapes at the news, Woon-kwang coolly informs Seol-woo that he should let go of Do-ha. Seol-woo apologizes before flinging Do-ha away before grabbing her by the back of her collar, which prevents her from falling flat on her face. He holds the pose for maximum effect, then lets her go. CEO Ji explains to Woon-kwang that Seol-woo’s a top bodyguard from Songsan Security Service, hired to provide some additional security for the actor’s upcoming trips abroad. Giving Seol-woo a once over, Woon-kwang snarks that he doesn’t want anything to do with Songsan, nor with anyone who wears the color red.

Do-ha grabs Seol-woo for a private conversation, where they start bickering almost immediately about the stunt Seol-woo just pulled. She says Seol-woo’s skills aren’t very good, reminding him that this is the second time she’s caught him doing something shady: today, it was pickpocketing; the other day, it was secretly taking photos of Woon-kwang and his team. Seol-woo points out that it was Do-ha who mistook him for paparazzi, then wonders why she’d make that assumption when he only said two things to her: “Who are you?†and “You looked pretty.†Seol-woo takes a few steps towards her and repeats the two phrases, wondering which one led to the misunderstanding. Do-ha just blinks back at Seol-woo, at a loss for words for once, while Seol-woo betrays the tiniest of smirks at her reaction.

Do-ha shakes out of her stupor, then gets distracted when she catches a glimpse of Woon-kwang in the distance, looking out from a balcony. She hurriedly ends the conversation with Seol-woo by telling him he doesn’t have the bodyguard job just yet. From his perch, Woon-kwang watches chaebol wife Mi-eun drive off the site. He looks pretty depressed, but Do-ha magically appears next to him and succeeds in cheering him up quickly. Their conversation then turns to Seol-woo—Do-ha doesn’t like him, but Woon-kyung says they don’t really have a choice about hiring him because he’s a gift from their agency’s biggest shareholder.

Do-ha thinks for a minute, then suggests a new plan: They’ll use him, but they’ll make things difficult so that he’ll leave on his own. Woon-kwang agrees and resumes his flirty banter with Do-ha, while Seol-woo watches the two in distaste from around the corner.

Sometime later, Seol-woo sits down for a formal interview with Do-ha, who’s being extra friendly and weird. After an extensive buildup to her first question, Do-ha starts off the interview with this gem: â€œYou’re on a deserted island. You see a fruit tree. What fruit is it?â€

Do-ha continues rattling off ridiculous questions, and though Seol-woo starts out looking a bit shell-shocked, he answers each question with conviction. Looking pleased, Do-ha says that Seol-woo and Woon-kwang are an incredible match, then congratulates Seol-woo on getting the job. Seol-woo just stares back at Do-ha, looking unsure of what just transpired.

Man x Man Episode 2

IMG_0005.jpg&key=0da22233f9d00504859887a

Quick run-through:

Do-Ha remains suspicious of Seol-Woo and Seol-Woo continues to be perplexed by the strange, strange woman. We find out a bit more about our villains and Mi-Eun but that just raises more questions in its stead. Do-Ha finally comes close enough to accomplishing her goal but foul play puts everything on the back burner.

The Episode in 1:

1. Do-Ha’s in love with Un-Gwang and that’s something Seol-Woo didn’t plan for

giphy.gif&key=8a51995e971b25957a7c6a53ac  giphy.gif&key=7e34bf810b54216fdea20ebdae

As expected, Un-Gwang’s not impressed by Seol-Woo’s manhandling of Do-Ha (to be honest, neither am I), and asks Seol-Woo to unhand her. Matters are worse for Seol-Woo when Mi-Eun seems impressed with his skills and Un-Gwang stalks off. Do-Ha then has Seol-Woo follow her and she admits that he’s neither a member of the paparazzi, nor is he a fanboy. Seol-Woo points out that he never did say he was either. He’d only said two things: asked her who she was, and called her pretty (gah, his smile whenever he says that makes me melt. Of course he’s acting but still… my heart). He asks her which of the two statements she didn’t understand. Do-Ha looks affected for a moment but then notices Un-Gwang looking off into the distance, the very image of loneliness. Seol-Woo notices the expression, but then Do-Ha tells him that they will be the one to contact him if truly they need his services. Turns out that the reason why Un-Gwang is looking into the distance is because he’s staring at Mi-Eun as she leaves. Do-Ha soon joins him and he lies that his mood is about a script he’s preparing for. Do-Ha cheers him up by quoting some of his lines to him, and when Un-Gwang turns the conversation to Seol-Woo and the fact that he’s a gift from a personal shareholder, Do-Ha suggests they use him and then force him to resign all on his own. The two friends then start congratulating each other on the brilliant plan with Un-Gwang calling Do-Ha smart and pretty. In the distance, Seol-Woo watches the interaction confused (hehehehehehehehe).

Positive comments from A.Wiki

rohan:Great drama and effort if u cant watch bcoz u dont like the female lead then thats your loss....its not a romantic drama and its just beginning, a lot hasn't unfold.... for all those who are still interested...fighting till next week

Cath:: darn you people! just watch if you want to watch. stop all the blaming to just one actress. I personally not a fan of Kim-Min-jung but can we all just give her a chance. so many caliber actresses in Korea nowadays prefer not to do dramas possibly because of hates from irresponsible immature netizens. argh!

Mambokinoki:: I'm really enjoying this series. The first two episode were rearlly good. I really like park sung woong. I think the female character was really made like that. so bear with it peeps.
