JTBC, together with the Naver V.DRAMA channel, is launching new TV series “Man x Man.†The show, a mixture of melodrama, spy and action genres, will star Park Hae-jin.

Fans are anticipating the release of new information, as the show has been pre-produced. JTBC announced it will release a making-of video Thursday, before the show actually begins. There have been several rumors that the making-of video will present spectacles on a cinematic scale.

Also, a live talk show will air along with the show itself to encourage active communication with viewers. Through the process, the staff is aiming to evoke direct feedback from the public.

JTBC will also offer deleted scenes and epilogues by the actors, writers and directors when the show ends.

Such a new approach being taken by the “Man x Man†staff has raised expectations for the show set to kick off at the beginning of next year.

Hidden backs and handholds for Man to Man

by javabeans

In keeping with the feel this show has been promoting all along, the latest teaser posters for JTBC’s Man to Man are snazzy and stylish, with the main characters—Park Hae-jin (Cheese in the Trap), Park Sung-woong (Remember–Son’s War), and Kim Min-jung (Gap-dong)—looking cool and confident.

Each character is pictured from the back with their faces in profile, and they each hold something behind their backs. I get that it’s meant to represent their roles—Park Hae-jin is the elite secret agent and bodyguard, Park Sung-woong is the movie star—but I do also find it mildly hilarious that it’s gun versus sunglasses. I’m… just gonna stand over here on the side of the guy with the deadly weapon while Mr. Hallyu Star is over on the other side holding his shades. Sure, he may be a mysterious ghost agent whose motives are unclear and is therefore dubiously trustworthy, but again, deadly weapon.

It’s difficult to make out what Kim Min-jung is holding behind her back, but she’s looking every bit of the tough manager who keeps strict watch over her Hallyu star, after having previously been his biggest fan. In fact, she’s named as the cause for the dramatic incident that turned him into a star in the first place, which sounds like every fangirl’s dream come true.

Man to Man will air on JTBC later this year, although an airdate still has yet to be announced.

Man to Man confirms April premiere on JTBC

by girlfriday | February 13, 2017 | 20 Comments

At last, we have a confirmed airdate for Park Hae-jin’s new drama Man to Man, which will be JTBC’s new Friday-Saturday series this April after Strong Woman Do Bong-soon ends. JTBC’s other pre-produced drama The Package was initially being considered for the timeslot, but it went to Man to Man instead, which does seem much farther along in production considering all the stills and posters we’ve seen. It’s great news for me, since I’ve been dying to see Park Hae-jin in action as a super-secret ghost agent.

The new comic-melo-spy-action drama stars Park Hae-jin as a mysterious black ops agent who becomes a bodyguard to a Hallyu star, played by Park Sung-woong (Remember–Son’s War). Bromance and action have been promised in abundance, so I’m pretty hyped about the bromantic pairing. Also on the star’s staff is Kim Min-jung (Gap-dong), as Park Sung-woong’s biggest fan who eventually became his manager.

Yeon Jung-hoon (Mask) co-stars as the villain, a chaebol heir with insatiable ambition. Yeon Jung-hoon and Park Hae-jin reunited on set nine years after their epic melodrama East of Eden, where they played two men swapped at birth: That time, Yeon Jung-hoon was the poor, hard-working one and Park Hae-jin was the chaebol rival, and this time, Park Hae-jin will play the hero to Yeon Jung-hoon’s chaebol villain, which is a fun little reversal.

Additional stills show Park Hae-jin in multiple disguises as an agent, so I’m anticipating some pretty cool secret identities every time he’s on a new assignment. We don’t know yet why an elite agent would become a Hallyu star’s bodyguard, but the curiosity is killing me, so their plan seems to have worked.

Man to Man premieres April 21 on JTBC.
