I think we have our writing staff for the drama now.

ZXeSSf7.png

Our writers are Park Chan Kyung who was an assistant writer on "Healer" and No Sun Jae who was an assistant writer on "Mirror of the Witch" which I think is a pretty good mix. Park has experience writing romances while No has experience writing historical dramas.

hmm... Are they really the main writer?

Hopefully not.   They don't sound confident or give the aura of confidence in their writing abilities with this interview:

http://morumoruisland.blogspot.com/2015/03/two-assistant-writers-worked-with.html

At the end of the day, good writing and directing is what will attract and keep viewers.

While there have been cases where the production staff has changed after being announced---I think "Picnic" just did it recently--that probably won't be the case here. With the filming starting in early December and with the entire drama being pre-produced they don't have as much leeway in that department.

But as someone who has recently finished reading "The King Loves" I just want to reassure you that both Park and No will be working with a very solid blueprint.

Can you make a small summary of each chapter or an overall summary of the main key events/scenes in the book please please pleaseee? >.<

I plan on posting my spoiler free general impressions of the book here AFTER "The K2" wraps up this week.

I am also currently writing a small summary of each chapter, think SparkNotes Lite, but I'm not sure how I want to share that information quite yet. Maybe I'll post it here in spoiler tags or maybe I'll start a private group pm and add people who are interested so that I can share some information and answer some questions without having to worry about people being spoiled.

Is it normal practice for two former assistant writers to work together on a drama? So are they both being promoted? Wouldn't it make more sense to have one already established writer with an assistant writer? Just wondering if you know.  :)

I actually haven't seen this happen before, but like Bite My Clit said, everyone has to start somewhere.

Honestly, the thing that has me the most excited and worried is our production company "U-Story9". I've been trying to find out more about them, but all I could find out was that they were at one point an advertising agency, they've been actively hiring people experienced in drama production, and that they've been holding open audition for "The King Story".

The writers seem decent enough, I think they can do well with a good PD. I checked Kim Sang Hyub's profile and I've only watched Glamorous Temptation which I thought was fine directing wise, and the OST was good. He seems to have some sageuk experience too, he worked in Dong Yi and Shin Don

Yeah our PD is solid. Mama was really well received and Dong Yi, for which Han Hyo Joo got a daesang for, was MBC's only saving grace that year.

And so far, every pre-produced drama that aired this year had a really strong OST (Descendants of the Sun, Uncontrollably Affectionate, and Moon Lovers) so I have my hopes up. I hope Taeyeon can finally sing a OST for Yoona. That'd make my life.

sometimes its nice to have an upcoming new production coz they will try to bring refreshing ideas to the table , to impress people so lets give them a chance :)  and i love that yoona doesnt care about the stellarity of a production team or cast ; step by step she is building her career.

That's a really good mind set to have and it's one I'm trying to adapt going into this drama. I've even been toying with the idea of casting a new actor as Rin, who's importance to the story cannot be understated. We know Yoona had a meeting with the team yesterday, so I hope that means we'll get some new casting information soon.

Based on what you read on Rin who do you think would be a good casting? I would like Byun Yo Han, Seo In Guk or Go Kyung Po.

Visually speaking, the closest would be someone like Lee Jae Hoon, but he's preoccupied with another project. On the DC forums they're discussing Gong Myung, Jinyoung (B1A4), Choi Tae Joon, or Lee Tae Hwan as possible candidates.

Personally, I'd pick Joo Ji Hoon in a heartbeat if he was like ten years younger, but I don't have a real clear favorite out of the names I've listed above.

WARNING! While this post is spoiler free, I wrote it thinking everyone here has at least read the brief synopsis that was released with the initial press release. If you haven’t, please go to dramabeans and read it first.

So after having read the books and stewing over them for a while, here are my thoughts. The book isn’t your traditional romance story, there’s much more to it than just that. While San and Rin are both fictional characters, many of the supporting cast and events that push the story forward are based on historical facts. Won, in particular, is very accurately portrayed so you can expect there will be a fair share of political talk in it as well. I expect the drama to pull back on some of the political aspects of the novel and pursue the romance and friendship aspect between our three main protagonist more, but I still expect it to have a bit more politics than say... "Moon Embracing the Sun" and it's honestly pretty interesting. With Goryeo (Korea) being ruled over by Mongolia (Yuan) at the time, this is a pretty touchy period of history for many Koreans so adhering to historical facts will be imperative to how well this drama is received. I remember "Empress Ki" receiving a huge backlash in Korea for how much it distorted history. Luckily for us, one of the books major selling points is it's historical accuracy so I don't expect that to become an issue here.

Our three main protagonist Won, San, and Rin are all very well fleshed out characters. But I think Siwan and Yoona fans in particular will be very happy with the range of emotions their characters will be able to play. It’s honestly a little crazy. On the other hand, Rin’s character is much more of a stoic character so I think even bringing on a more novice actor would be an okay choice there too. I should also mention that Rin is NOT a “third wheel†in this story. He is just as important to the story as Won and San are.

All in all, it was a very impressive book to read. From a fanboy standpoint, there were moments I was getting giddy just imagining Yoona acting some of the scenes out. From a literary standpoint, the sheer scope of the writing impressed me. The characters travel all over the Yuan Empire and while I'm not sure how much of it will be translated into the drama, one of the pro's of being a pre-produced drama is that we actually have the time to go overseas and film some of these scenes (I know for a fact that “Empress Kiâ€, another MBC drama, filmed a few scenes in China as well so I know that it’s possible).

A few users have been asking me to explain the relationship between Won, Rin and San a bit more so I decided to also post what I shared with them here in spoiler tags. And while I do foreshadow a few events, as a whole, I think it’s pretty spoiler free.

1. Won and Rin

So Won definitely wears the pants in this relationship. He's constantly nagging on Rin for being so stiff around him and pressures him to speak informally when it's just the two of them, often to no avail. Rin is described almost as an extension of Won himself, always standing by his side and willing to do anything the prince asks of him. Rin and Won share the same dream of making Goryeo a better place to live, for the people, and both help each other towards that goal.

2. Won and San

Won instantly falls for San, not romantically I mind you, but because a) her looks and b) her selfless nature. San, unlike Rin, is more than willing to talk down to Won, and Won loves her even more for that. At one point in the novel, he mentions that San was the only person he's ever met that didn't treat him as royalty.

3. Rin and San

Initially, Rin is very wary of San because she refuses to tell him her true identity. They constantly butt heads with each other and if it weren’t for Won they’d never get along. Nevertheless, Rin is very protective of San and is often the one to save her when she bites off more than she can chew.

And last but not least, if you want to be added to the group PM, where I'll be sharing a small summary of each chapter, add your name to the list below.

Wow okay where do I even start? Haha

First off, THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS THREAD! THIS THREAD IS AMAZEBALLS! This is the first time in a while that I've joined a forum ever since I joined one last 2010 I think when I was into SuperYoong especially YoonHae & KyuNa hahaha but here I am again because I just can't ignore this one! Ever since I knew the news of Yoona and Siwan being casted for The King Loves I legit screamed the whole building down. Maximum fangirling, I guess ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ Ever since I've seen Siwan in Misaeng I really wanted him to act alongside Yoona, I was even hoping for Yoongie to make a cameo appearance but it was a far fetched dream but lo and behold The King Loves saves the day!

Second, about Wang Rin, omg I was also rooting for Yoo Seung Ho but the news of him being casted in a new MBC sageuk (aish why did they not cast him in TKL instead! It's also a sageuk drama so what gives casting people :<) literally crushed my heart. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for him to have a new project but why not be in TKL!  ã… ã…¡ã…  I also like Byun Yohan since it would be amazeballs to see Misaeng cast in another drama & sageuk at that too!  And if that's the case I am again wishing for some cameo appearances from Kang Haneul and Kang Sora ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹  and Manager Kim & Chief Oh too!  :rlytearpls:   but after reading the post about suggestions from DC, I was again maximum fangirling to see Choi Tae Joon on the list! He is my (not so anymore, I guess haha) secret bias  :hehe: And to see all of my 3 biases in one drama? That would be heavennnnnnn!  :stare:  :stare:  So I'm really rooting for Siwan-Yoona-Tae Joon as of now. Just even thinking about it feels like I could conquer college!  :har:

Third, Thank You eMopRiNc3ss69x for the hard work! I haven't finished reading the summary but the moment I opened the message my eyes were of the size of freaking golf balls! YOU ARE SO AMAZING! For sharing some info and for summarizing TKL like wow! Really, thank you so much! ^^

And lastly, Hi everyone! Thank You also for the infos and amazing fanarts being posted! Like how do you even do that people? So good! And oh! Let the spazzing begin!  :lub:

I hate to say this, cause I feel like I'm going to break your heart... Choi Tae Joon is set to star in "Missing 9" so he's off the list too.  :rlytearpls:

And I hope everyone here knows that this drama isn't going to air till July/August of next year. Pre-production takes 5-6 months and then they spend another 2 months editing and making deals for foreign broadcast.  :rlytearpls:  :rlytearpls:

Why don't some Yoona's fans like him?  Wow, he is going to be Rin?

He was okay in the Good Wife. So, I am not sure why the animosity towards him. If there is one...

The general consensus in Korea is that he did a poor job in "The Good Wife". But again, it's just a rumor going around and nothing has been confirmed.

She's heard many good things about Siwan and is confident that they'll quickly get along with one another.

And a heads up for anyone else that wants to join the PM group. You need to quote me or else I won't get a notification.

Is there an specific idol rumoured? I saw some fans hoping for not "another idol" as the other male lead.

i don't know about any rumors, but i've seen a lot of people asking for jinyoung from b1a4 on korean forums. i don't get the hate behind idol actors. tbh if changmin from tvxq wasn't serving in the military right now, he might've been my no. 1 choice for rin. :(

Another day with no casting news  :rlytearpls:

do you guys think they're waiting for Monday, I hope they are

after the backlash they got for announcing yoona while she was promoting the k2,  maybe they are waiting for siwan to finish filming his movie before announcing anything big. or like ceemeetee said maybe Rin is wrapping up another project and they're waiting on that.

Oh this could be the case!!! Although me waiting for Rin is like

2357-just-waiting.gif

Did anyone ever mention how many episodes TKL would be? If so, I kinda miss that. Judging from the story it would be more than 16 episode right? And MBC sageuk usually has more than 20 episodes..

Those super long MBC sageuk's take an entire year to film and since this drama is 100% pre-production with plans to air in the summer, it'll probably be 20 episodes long--which is how long "Moon Embracing the Sun" was.

Question:Is it okay to post some spoilers about what will happen to Won in the end?

Because I saw someone spoiling it on twitter.

I saw that tweet too...  ã… -ã…

I wish people would know better than to post spoilers from the novel on a public service like Twitter with no spoiler tags...  :wth:
