BODY POSITIVITY, DIETS & FAT SHAMING!

This lady said that we can't be body positive and be on a diet. She also said diets don't work. Her "elaboration" in this video did nothing for me.

I can't believe the audacity.

i'm overweight atm, and I was obese before. I worked my ass off, limited my portions, followed a STRICT diet and I managed to lose 15 kgs.

I'm still plus size now, and I am working on losing even more weight, but I'm starting to get annoyed with the body positivity movement.

I do believe that we all need to accept each other for what we are, and not body shame each other. We should all mind our business when it comes to someone else's body. Everybody has the right to do whatever they want with their body.

What I will never understand is why some of these body positivity ppl want to act like being fat is a disability, something that they can't change, and therefore we all need to be wary of that.

"Systemic Oppression" STFU. Weight is something that you can actually control, unlike your race, or any physical disability you might be born with. I know some people have certain disorders that prevent them from losing weight so they're exempt from this scenario.

YOU CAN BE BODY POSITIVE AND BE LOSING WEIGHT.

YOU CAN BE BODY POSITIVE AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH.

JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE BODY POSITIVE DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN'T CHANGE YOUR BODY AND BE HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER.

Body positivity was supposed to be about not being rude and disrespectful to others. It was supposed to be about seeing someone and not judging them on what you see. A lot of people who are fat are not lazy. I am overweight and I am always working on myself. As a matter of fact a few years ago I was told I was borderline diabetic. The next time I went to the doctor not only was I no longer on the borderline, I lost weight as well. That's what it's about. I think that both sides of the issues are going too far. People complain and complain about others but never offer a solution.

That's why I love dancing. It keeps me active. One day I would love to post a dance cover that will double as exercise.

The thing I don't get is when obese people say that they don't need to lose weight, cause they love themselves

Like, that's fantastic, you should definitely love yourself, but if you do, chances are that you'll still love yourself when you're at a healthy weight. So I don't see how that make sense at all.

I'm not sure if you're addressing me but I never stated that fat people were lazy, ME being a fat person myself would know. LOL. All I said was that weight is something that can be controlled in most cases! Regardless, good job on your weight loss! Dancing helps me as well :) Is there a certain type of dancing you do?

That's something that always grinds my gears. It's fine if you want to feel okay with your own body, even if being obese is not just about looks but about your overall health, but to act like it's something that you can't help, that everyone needs to accomodate you, and that people should be attracted to you even if they don't like your body type is stupid. This is coming from an overweight person.

I honestly have actually reached a level of comfortableness in my own skin, but I still wish to lose weight to a healthy level. I don't feel as self-conscious as when I was bordering anorexia, but I know for sure I'm reaching obesity, and despite loving myself, I know I should work on being healthier.

No I didn't say you. I was talking about people in general since we were addressing the body positivity movement.

Thank you and good luck to you too.

I can do choreography but no freestyle. Just covering many genres depending on the artist.

I think there is a point about the incompatibility between being self-congratulatory while trying to lose weight to achieve what is conceived and internalized as a better body/image but that's would be only a partial truth based on extremes of each posture. So yeah I believe she's just spreading ignorance and a very partial point of view based on her bad experiences and shifting all the blame on the rest of society.

What it bugs the most is her claim about diet not working; of course starving yourself trying to reduce your weight is not going work and rather backfire on you but to begin with that's not what a healthy diet is supposed to be and it really surprises me that after going through all that she remains very ignorant about the subject. Strictly speaking a diet isn't restraining yourself from eating to reduce weight, it's just a variety of food and nutrients someone consumes or you can see it as someone eating habits and thus there can be such things as unhealthy diets and healthy ones. I understand there's a lot of magic diets spread around media that won't work and would just make people frustrated or even deteriorate their health (like in the case of this girl) but it still remains as an ignorant statement that doesn't help to eradicate those wrongfully preconceived ideas about 'diets'.

I could go on about several things I don't agree about her speech but overall my main criticism is that she doesn't offer any viable solution to overweight people that want to reduce weight, it's like if she was telling people to give up and stop trying. I also believe that is possible to balance a positive self image with striving to having a better body and/or having better health. I think the issue lies within the motives and the methods people use to achieve this but that shouldn't be a reason to tell people it's not worth the effort.
