I can not wear shoes at home, its unsanitary af

Its my culture tho, and yes I am also a westerner, I used to think all my American friends did this... but honestyly why dirty the carpets just to spend money on cleaning them when you can have them clean all the time

Other than fresh new shoes, I (and the rest of my fam) NEVER wear shoes inside the house. You step in spit and shit outside ew

idk anyone who even does tbh, maybe its just some urban myth white people thing

Because the type of flooring we use at home dirty easy, if I'm walking barefoot my feet will get dirty. But only flip flops (havaianas), of course when I get home I change my shoe. Sometimes I'm barefoot, but I hate dirty feet.

It has carpet before entering into my house, you "clean" the shoe before entering.

Ahhh, most people were I'm from don't give af and wear normal shoes all over the house  I'm very seldomly asked to take my shoes off and I always offer. So, yes, it is a thing. We also don't take off our shoes in school, or in restaurants, or in hospitals or museums.

I really can't answer why. I guess there's a element of laziness because taking off shoes, putting on slippers, and than putting shoes back on to go back out is time taxing.

We care, that's why we put mats at the door to brush your soles on before you walk in. But not enough to rearrange our homes around the idea. In cultures were it is the norm you get storage at the entry ways for shoes. In most new builds there isn't even a coat closet in the entry way.

Oh, and I think its a signal of closeness. "take off your shoes, get comfortable" is a common thing to say to guest if you want them to stay.

too lazy to keep their shoes away from the rest of their clothes? 1st thing i do whenever i come home is walk into my room and throw my shoes into the corner and put on slippers.

personally especially during the winter i would be annoyed to walk in with my massive coat and bend over to yank off my tightly fitted boots 1st

When I heard about this the first time I thought people were talking about slippers, and we do wear these, but when I found out it was about shoes such as sneakers, heels and etc I was so WTF'ed, lol. Here we change them to slippers as soon as we get home. I mean, most people do. And a lot go around only wearing socks or barefoot, lol.

where did this myth that most westerners wear shoes inside even come from???? the only place i've ever encountered that was in the canadian maritimes, and it was a bit strange even there.

I wish someone could explain this to me too?!

Movies and tv shows. As a Westerner who's not from North America, I thought it was the norm because this was what everyone did on tv. I also thought North Americans were kinda gross because they would get up in the mornings and never bathe for work or school, once again tv.
