But only flip flops (havaianas), of course when I get home I change my shoe. Sometimes I'm barefoot, but I hate dirty feet. So, yes, it is a thing. We also don't take off our shoes in school, or in restaurants, or in hospitals or museums. I really can't answer why. I guess there's a element of laziness because taking off shoes, putting on slippers, and than putting shoes back on to go back out is time taxing. We care, that's why we put mats at the door to brush your soles on before you walk in. But not enough to rearrange our homes around the idea. In cultures were it is the norm you get storage at the entry ways for shoes. In most new builds there isn't even a coat closet in the entry way. Oh, and I think its a signal of closeness. I wish someone could explain this to me too?! Movies and tv shows. As a Westerner who's not from North America, I thought it was the norm because this was what everyone did on tv. I also thought North Americans were kinda gross because they would get up in the mornings and never bathe for work or school, once again tv.
