Would you tell someone their fan fiction is terrible?

I run a fan fiction blog for an EXO member and I allow submissions. I've let every submission go through so far but yesterday I got a story that honestly made my eyes bleed. It was so bad that I thought it was a joke story until I checked the author's blog and she seems legit. It has every terrible k-pop fanfiction cliche along with bad grammar and spelling. I've never turned anyone away so I'm not sure how to respond. She said she really loves my blog and everything and just ughhhhhh what do I do?

try to do that in a nice way

like "there's room for you to grow but right now it'd be better if I didn't publish it on my blog" idk

the problem with fanfics (yaoi ones) is that most of them are written by virgin female teens that know nothing about how sex actually works (happens?), specially GAY SEX, so they just write shit they are used to read on other fics thinking it's nice when it could never happen in a real life sex

I always tell the truth. Frustrated writers labeled my opinions as flames. they can't handle criticism and it's actually for their own sake.

I'm also a fanfic writer hiding in the depths of fanfiction.net  :imstupid: so I know the feeling. I accept all kinds of goods - trolling, flaming, praises and the unlimited "when will you update?"

That's actually a really great response. I think I will use it.

Ff.net is still alive and kicking? The memories!

break it to her kindly.

for example, don't say terrible, say something like 'the characterisation could use a little work' or 'i require all authors to use spellcheck. did you use it?'.

oh yes yes aside from the occasional site crashes. I prefer ao3 and lj but ff.net holds the largest number of fics, I had no choice to satisfy my cravings  :rlytearpls: oh yeah, asianfanfics too.

wattpad is sh*t so that's a no-no for me.

I should put more rules in my submission box. People don't follow them but it'd give me a backup.

Wattpad is hot flaming garbage, tbh.

I'd tell her the truth and say that she needs to improve, though there's a chance she may get defensive and start blasting out hate towards you. But I believe you should tell someone when they're bad at something or else you'd have so many delusional people like the nutters on x factor.

Please tell that girl the truth. If writing is something she would like to do outside of fanfiction, she needs valid criticism on what she needs to improve on.

I don't know about the ff side of wattpad, but they have some well written stories on there. I think so anyway.

aw just tell her you think it would be best for her to have someone beta it before publishing it because you see a lot of things that could be re-work to make their story better.

maybe link them to this list of exo beta readers:

http://fuckyeahexofics.tumblr.com/post/97582762020/beta-reader-list

tbh i think a lot of messy stories just need someone to help them out and give them advice on a possible better way to go about things. so i hope this person gets a beta and strengthens her writing.

Tell the truth, sure you would get some "OMG my story is perfect the way it is, ya'll just hatin" people but you know what, please keep telling the truth.

I was a bad fanfic writer that had all those "OMG your story is so good" stuff. Makes me wish i had construtive critism because re-reading that shit, the fic was so embarassing.

Feedback is a good options.

If she really wants to be a writer then she won't get upset.

Give her some tips if you want to.

Criticizing people without being rude is good for everyone.
