Who would you say are the top 10 female soloists in Japan right now?

This category has fallen on rough times these past few years. This isn't based on legacy or things that happened in the past but right now. Things like current album sales, single sales, digital sales, media presence, and whatnot.

1. Namie Amuro

2. Nishino Kana

3. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

4. Superfly

5. JUJU

6. Nana Mizuki

7. aiko

8. miwa

9. Koda Kumi

10. Kato Miliyah

I will say 4-10 gets a bit messy but I do think they are all in there. And even though she hasn't released in a while, I will say that Utada is a floating top.

Kumi above Ayumi tho...

1. Namie Amuro

((Utada Hikaru))

2. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

3. Kana Nishino

4. JUJU

5. Superfly

5. Nana Mizuki

6. Ayumi Hamasaki

7. Yumi Matsutoya

8. Kumi Koda

9. miwa

10. aiko

I would not have Ayu in the top 10. Everyone knows who she is but as far as like right now, she isn't in that good of a spot. Yuming... hmm... again everyone knows who she is but most of her recent success comes from her 2012 best album and her 40 year old song from that movie in 2013. Her new album Pop Classico opened good though.

Based on fame and sales both Ayu and Yuming should be in the list, sure, they are not selling a couple of million selling singles and then a 3x million album but their sales are still good enough to be considered in the top 10 (Ayu's new single sold roughly as much after 2 days as Kumi and Kyary's latest single after one week), not to mention that Ayu was the only artist in 2013 to have two #1 albums. Yumi Matsutoya has just had a MASSIVE best of album that outsold EVERYBODY you mentioned, and her last album opened with numbers not that far behind the others'

Mine would be:

Amuro Namie

Nishino Kana

JUJU

Che'Nelle (or Superfly)

Kato Miliyah

Kyarypamyupamyu

Mizuki Nana

miwa (or Ieiri Leo)

Matsutoya Yumi Koda Kumi.  I love yuming but after reviewing it I decided to cut her. I guess Koda Kumi should be on here too...

Ayumi Hamasaki

I would add Ayu simply for being able to still sell-out arenas and constantly being in the tabloids.

kyary  might not sell a lot of albums but she was one of the strongest digital sellers in 2012/3 and she's the trend rn

Like I said, this isn't about legacy; it's about right now. What Kuu and Kyary lack in physical single sales they make up for in digital sales. And Ayu's 2 #1 albums sold how many copies? They were #1 albums but they weren't big. Yuming's best album was in 2012 and was going off of her 40 year legacy, not her current material. And Pop Classico didn't open with numbers as high as some of the other people on the list. How much has it sold so far? And all you're basing her off of is album sales. There is more than album sales.

Che'Nelle? Really?

Didn't you say* what's hot right now tho? she slays most people on that list digitally and physically. I don't listen to her, in fact I don't even know how she sounds like, but the girl is charting everywhere. She's practically a japanese singer.

Also sideeye at you for adding aiko and not ayu

edited because spellcheck ruined me

Che'Nelle was hot like in 2011 / 2012. Nobody was checking for her 2013 releases.

lmao @ miwa and Miliyah Kato

one is new and already on her way out and the other is done w/o even gaining die hards like Ayu or Kuu

I put Kuu above Superfly and JUJU cuz neither will outsell in singles in the future and their album sales are lame sauce to be higher than the Ero-Kawaii Queen

Kuu has fallen off worse than Ayu has. And YUI? Isn't she on hiatus?

miwa is gaining actually and Miliyah is doing better than some of the girls I didn't include that you want to include digitally and album-wise.

her hiatus is the most typical marketing ploy, I see her coming back soon after she is doing flirting with that band she made for some cellphone yen

anyway Kuu will rise again, I mean Go The Top still slayed and her numbers have been weak but not bad, her place is pretty stagnant compared to Ayu disintegration

just Summer Trip covers were so offensive to the eyes, I loved them always here for trashy Kuu it flopped into oblivion but Dreaming Now signals that Bon Voyage will do decent
