With the new year minutes away, I keep thinking about the future. And that includes then GREs,which I am not ready for it if I want to go to grad school I need them. Is anyone else getting ready to take them? Has anyone taken them? taper they as scary as they seem. Getting into my school of choice depends on this test.

Its good that you already thinking about grad school.

Yes, I took the GRE twice (wanted a better score).  The schools that I applied which were USC and UCLA required it and some of the Cal States' master programs, as well, required it.

I took it in the GRE center which you take it by computer because is faster. I got the results like  2 weeks after.

It was hell. I am going to be honest it was very overwhelming the 3 hours exam, but the weeks of preparation was even more stressful.

One thing to know is that the GRE is very expensive and expect to pay $180 especially if you are planning to take it at near GRE center by computer. I don't recommend by paper. It takes months. I do know some local community colleges do offer the GRE at their place which would be done by paper. Its less expensive by paper.

I took my GRE last  December. I prepared for it all summer until fall for it, so be prepared to take a lot of time to practice for the exam. The exam is three parts. There is writing portion that consist of reading three short passages, and then, you writing a short well thought essay (more of a short paragraph) that connects to the short passages that you read. Then, there is a reading portion which reminded me of those state exams which isn't difficult. Then, there is math. It has a lot of geometry questions and algebra type of math. So it pretty much reviewing math that you did in 7-9th grade level. However, the way the math problems are worded can be confusing especially when there is a time constraint.

Things to point out. If you are planning to take it in the future, please make sure you sign up soon and create a GRE account at their website. There is one exam date per month, and it gets full so quickly. You can take the exam multiple times and one time per month.

*Make sure you prepared and review before taking the exam. You might like many people retake the exam twice.

Lastly, please do not procrastinate it just and advice.
