Llama. 496
Serious question, any suggestions to reduce odour? Like my one cat just went for a shit, and I am sitting here with my shirt over my nose. And I can still TASTE the smell. I've tried every type of litter, and It is in an enclosed litter box. How can something so cute smell so fucking bad? EDIT: FOR FUCK'S SAKE! Why do I keep posting in the wrong section? (yes I know this should be in random, not games)
Laamaa 7,510
I feel you. The only thing that works for us is lighting some incense. Usually the only thing that can get rid of the smell.

deneb 233
I expect you've already tried but getting them to go outside is the best solution of all.
bbangjyjbapshineelove 356
Try to change the litter everyday. If the smell is that strong it will be on your clothing (and you wont even know it). You don't want to smell like shit too!

I've tried every brand of reasonably priced food. And there is only one they will eat, and only particular flavours cause they are picky little fuckers. I expect you've already tried but getting them to go outside is the best solution of all. They are indoor cats. My one dude especially can't go outside cause he's a klutz and is missing half of his back paw. (before I got him, not done under in my care) He'd probably end up killing himself falling out of a tree cause he can;t land on his feet. OUO 3,660
Maybe put the litter box in a well-ventilated area? I have my cat's litter box in a balcony.

With a little gentle persuasion my cats were pretty quick to take to outside life so I can't say that it's something I know too much about. Best of luck solving the pungent problem~

Yerowan 1,006
Ah good to know. I usually do it every 2nd day, but that may help XD It only stinks for like 20 mins after they drop it. other than that it's fine. An enclosed box can help with litter getting scattered everywhere, but it does also mean the smell takes longer to dissipate (imagine cigarette smoke in the same box and how long it would take for that to air out). I would agree with the recommendation to put the box in an area with better ventilation, but I would also take the lid off. The "ideal" litterbox setup is two litterboxes for one cat, plus another box per additional cat. If your home has more than one floor, at least one box per floor. They should be in semi out of the way places (nothing like teaching your cat to poop in a closet somewhere because every time they try to use the box, something scares them). Some cats just have stinkier poop, even on the same food. One of mine *always* reeks, whether she's been on inexpensive grocery store food or fancy expensive pet-store food or prescription food. Yeah, sometimes the food can make it much worse, but sometimes it's just an individual cat thing. If you're not already offering canned/wet food, you could supplement their diet with that and see if it changes anything. TL;DR: It's poop, of course it smells. Put the box(es) somewhere quiet with low people-traffic and with decent ventilation, scoop it regularly, and call it a day. Ah, I see. That is a tad problematic then. With a little gentle persuasion my cats were pretty quick to take to outside life so I can't say that it's something I know too much about. Best of luck solving the pungent problem~ In many (possibly most) American cities, letting your cat out to roam is actually illegal and can be really dangerous for the cat - other stray cats, stray dogs, rabies, traffic, trigger-happy dipshits (if your pet is off your property and is not under your direct control, "nuisance" laws kick in), people who leave anti-freeze out to intentionally poison the neighbor's cat who's been shitting in their yard, etc.
