I'm a high school senior and I need help..

Hi guys!! I'm going into grade 12 in two days and I'm really nervous about university/college. I almost got straight A's last year and my best subject is French. My highest mark in French is 99%, and I usually get 97-98%. Even though my grades are decent, I have no interest in anything besides languages and my grades are like that because I study hard & listen to my teachers. I'm not naturally smart and I can't do anything that wasn't taught directly/is asked in a different way (I can't think outside the box). I was considering going into the French program in uni (I live in Canada), learning some other languages, and becoming a language teacher because I pick up languages pretty well but the French language is so fast, and listening comprehension is difficult for me. I've had good luck with my French teachers because they make good notes and most of the work is about grammar. But now I don't think I should join the French program in uni because everyone there (100+ students in a class😱) will be on a different level and even though I was good in high school, uni will be 1000000x harder and the teacher will most likely teach in 100% French. 😭😭 Idk if I will survive uni because I get stressed so easily. Ik for sure I wanna get into the arts & social science faculty but IDK what program! Any advice for me? Are there any people in language programs here? Please help me.. 😖😭

I think you should be more confident in yourself.

It's scary but I think you can make it if you work hard.

If you're good at languages, go for it.

Uni is tough but you have to face it anyway.

Good luck.

yep, basically what baiichi said, you will have to go to uni anyways, so just go for what you're good at

most college language programs start with a 101 level course which is for beginners/people who have never learned said language before so it starts with the basics. if you take a placement test or your grades allow, you might be placed into a higher level course. but my point is you shouldn't worry that much because the easiest language courses won't be too too intensive, especially if you have some previous knowledge of the language.

Woow you have good grades, good job

I heard today in uni (I also live in Canada) that there is a need for French teachers, so it's a good program to chose. And with your detection and grades I think you'll do well. You should be confident.

But in the end, if the thing you want to chose is in arts & social science then you should do what your heart tells you and follow your passion.

I'm a senior in HS too!! I suggest you just go for it like everyone else is saying, like for example I'm applying to some colleges that are quite difficult to get into, and am not confident in my grades (they are really good, but I feel like they aren't good enough) but I'm at least attempting to get into them. You just never know if you try it!!!

Good luck :))

I also heard that from my grade 10 Planning teacher. Thank you so much for your advice♡ have a nice day :)

Check to see if there's a french club or french camps near you. You can meet other students who are as serious as you about french/language and seek advice from them while improving listening comprehension

I hated french but went to french camps a couple times

Also, if you start from the bottom in uni the classes won't be hard.

I majored in Japanese at uni. I don't know wht you mean by everyone will be on different levels because if you're a beginner you'll be with other beginners, and if you're advanced you'll be with advsnced students. Also usually in the first beginner level your professor will use a mix of English and whatever language they're teaching. It isn't until you get to say, French 2 that they start using 99% French and 1% to make clarifications on grammar. Plus a classroom where the professor speaks mostly in French is good for you since you'll be immersed in the language.

LOL "uni will be 1000000x harder and the teacher will most likely teach in 100% French."

Where did you hear that from? Trust me, highschool (or AP/IB program) is a lot more tedious than college.

Anyhow, my advice is take the French language placement exam and get into a class that fits your level. Also, join the French club/association.
