Private School, vs Public School, vs Home School - What do you think and which one would you use for your children?

Public School, a school run by the government. Private School a school run by a private institution. Home school, schooling is done by the parents.

Which did you attend? What is it like is your country? I know in some home schooling is illegal. Do you think one is better than the other, or one is worse and even bad for society?

I went to private school, public school, home school, and than back to public school. Looking back I think public school didn't fulfill my needs as a student and it stunted my education. I'm not sure private would have been better since mine was catholic, and home school wasn't the best because my parents were lazy  they're lucky I like learning on my own time.

Based on my experiences though, I think I'd try private or home schooling with my kids if I could. I'd love to have my kids assist me in the field, I feel confident I could teach them science and history. But there's also a huge benefit of being in a classroom with a teacher with different experiences. I like the year round system. The draw back of course if private school can be expensive, but it depends. I don't want a fancy ultra competitive school, just an environment were learning is the goal, not test scores.

In America, there's an argument that schooling kids like that is bad for society though. That by taking my kids out of the public school system, I would be harming children of lower social economic classes. Because if involved parents take their kids out of school, the school loses parental involvement. But to be veerry honest I have zero interest in fighting the bureaucratic war with public school. And public schools in "nice" areas spend too much on their sports not enough on science for my liking.  I just don't want to train my kids to give the system what it wants, I want them to really be free to explore whatever they like.

So what do you think

I went to a public school and I will send my children to a public school too because I don't see why not. Many (not all) private school kids I know are jerks and don't appreciate what they have. I now go to university with heaps of ex-private school students. I actually don't think what type of school matters. Whether the child excels or not is determined by the child themselves.

99,9% of schools in my country are public. I went to one - they're just fine, so I'll probably go with that.

I would also consider homeschooling with private tutors + music/art/sports school. But that would depend a lot on the child's personality, I suppose.

Homeschooling is legal and I did it my last two years in school - I consider it to be a great thing. But it really depends on how you do it. I'm against the eco-natural-attachment-parenting thing when it's parents who actually (don't) teach their child and deprive them of socialising with peers and opportunities to obtain social skills. Kids should have some amount hardships in their childhood in order to be able to overcome hardships in their adult life.

I went to a boarding school.i dont think i want to sent my future children to such school though.

the education was great and among the best in entire nation (smart and talented students all over the school) but lol i was wild despite the strict rules.

Public or private i dont really care.as long as not boarding schools.

Depends on where you are. Some public schools in my city are known for drugs and violence. I went to a public for my first year of high school. It was a shit hole. Fights, guns, drugs.

It all depends on your area. If you live in a nice area you'll have nice schools.

I went to a private school until high-school; In high school, I went to a public school but it was a school of Excellence.

I don't want home school for my children, I want them to be in touch with the society early.

I will put them in a private school or a public school only if it has a good reputation(I mean good education, good professors, good results)

Public school if the area is good... I went to one and I was just fine. Tbh most of the private schools I know around here are filled with rich snobby kids who are extremely superficial and judgemental if you're not wealthy or have materialistic things like the rest of them. I know not all private school kids are like that but I had a friend who went to one and he was talking about how his school was full of stuck-up little shits. but of course if the public school is full of obnoxious, noisy, troublesome delinquents who won't even try to learn and there's shit like drugs, violence or whatnot that's very apparent, then of course I'd send my kid(s) to a private school.

Private if I can afford. The K-12 public education can be pretty bad in Cali.

I'm in CA too, half my family is teachers in poor areas and yeah. It can be really bad :/

I think there should be a distinction between simply private and prep. I don't think I'd ever send my kids to a fancy prep school that is basically pre-buying into select colleges.

I would want my kid to go to Public school, the same one I did. There's nothing that wrong with private schools but they're usually religious and I just don't like them.

Plus home schooling fucks you up, there was a family that was taught at home until high school and they had no social skills, they became outcasts. I was an outcast too so I was friends with one of them but it took her years to really find her place and learn how to act normal in social situations. She was actually hated a lot because her personality was rather arrogant, she thought she was better because she had been home schooled.

Yeah... honestly it's messed up on how public schools are funded (property tax, etc.) it really is "richer get richer while poorer get poorer situation". And the irony, CA has one of the worst k-12 educations in the US but a lot of the good universities.
