Should I be worried if I haven't gotten the HPV vaccine?

I'm a 19 year old girl. When I was 11 my doctor suggested I get the HPV vaccine but my mom didn't want me to get it because she thought it was too new and somehow had this idea that there would be an unintended consequence down the line for girls who got the vaccine, like they wouldn't be able to carry babies or something. TBH I have no idea where she gets these crazy ideas. She still doesn't want me to get it, but I guess I technically could now if I want to because I'm legally an adult. I still go to the pediatrician though since my doctor sees his patients until they are 22, so if I asked would they give me the vaccine even if my mom didn't want me to get it? I think I'm still in the age range that I can get the vaccine (will be 20 on the 18th), and I'm not sexually active yet. How long does it take to take effect? Tbh I'm socially awkward af so I probably won't have that many sexual partners in my life (even though I want to hehe), and I will use protection ofc when I have sex. How risky would it be to not get the vaccine? Thank you to anyone who knows anything about this.

The genital cancer HPV folk-rap epic you've been waiting for. Visit http://ZDoggMD.comto learn more about HPV vaccination and cancer prevention.

Lyrics, lead vocals, and guitar performance by ZDoggMD. Audio production and background vocals by Devin Moore.

A parody of "More Than Words" by Extreme. Because after all, HPV infection causes "more than warts" and with the HPV vaccine we can prevent cervical cancer, anogenital cancer, and oropharyngeal cancers in both boys and girls. So get your vax on, son.

prevention against anything is good. I had mine like 10 years ago and I've never heard of it causing problems for girls. I suppose just talk to your doctor about any concerns you may have and maybe take your mum in with you if your worried about what she thinks so she can talk with the doctor too.

You don't need to be worried as you're not sexually active yet, but you should get it. Its no different than a flu shot, its protection from a virus.

HPV can be transmitted even during safe sex, just like herpes. The strains the vaccine protects against cause most cases of gynological cancer. 3 shots will greatly reduce your chance of needing cancer treatment, its a no brainer for me.
