Internationally, Dope is the song that made them big. But in Korea, it didn't have a great impact. A hit song charts amazingly well, gets played on TV shows, and has the general public's recognition. SNSD's Gee, EXO's Growls, BigBang's Fantastic Baby and Lies, Twice's Cheer Up, Infinite's Be Mine and so on.

It's okay, you're not the only one I've seen who had that misconception. It's the song that brought in a bunch of new i-fans and chances are if people/kpop fans (outside Korea) know any BTS song, it's probably that one. But whether it's a hitâ„¢ in any respect, I'm not so sure about stuff like that and so I won't debate that. All I know is that, regardless, promoting that b-side did a lot of good for BTS!  :ohbi:

Dope was recognized more internationally than in Korea. I Need U had more of an impact domestically, but still didn't quite reach "hit" level.

To be considered a hit song it needs to strike a chord with the Koran general public, not just within the fandom. This is pretty tough to accomplish, especially for boy groups.

To my understanding, a song is considered a hit when it does exceptionally well digitally (streams + downloads) in Korea only.

Dope did help them make a name for themselves internationally, but it doesn't meet the requirements aforementioned.

It's actually funny how "different"(for lack of a better word) kpop is in Asia compared to the west. A new kpop would have a hard time lmao.

And yeah as the others said, Dope is definitely a hit song internationally but in Asia & especially Korea it's unfortunately not. EXO - Growl, Super Junior - Sorry Sorry, g.o.d - Lies, H.O.T - Candy, Big Bang - Lies, TVXQ - Rising Sun, 2PM - Heartbeat etc are examples of hit songs. The general public new of them, the songs were promoted and played everywhere etc.

They don't have a hit song yet but I'm pretty sure by the end of the year they will go big with their comeback, if not definitely 2017. It's impressive that even without a hit song BTS are slaying everywhere.

A hit song in korea is a song with a million downloads. I need u is their biggest hit with ~800k downloads.

This is such stupid logic, I can't. Does this mean that only about 20 songs were hits in Korea last year & everything else was a flop?
