In other words, don't be too quick to jump to any conclusions just based on that one post. If there are any inherent flaws in the Note 7, there will be more cases of the same thing happening. Let's just wait and see.

While uncommon, lithium ion batteries can get hot to the point of catching on fire/exploding. In all likelihood a 3rd party charging cable or adapter was a result.

 

I know at least with Apple, you have to be careful buying cheap 3rd party knockoffs because these cheap cables don't regulate the charging mechanism in the phone, so too much voltage can pass into the phones via these cables, potentially damaging the internals of the phone, or shocking the user, or cause excess heat can make the lithium ion battery too hot. I imagine that Samsung phones have similar mechanisms within their phones that regulate power...

 

Always use certified cables and charging devices, this will protect you and your phone.
