Day to day I usually wear free, natural clothes, a 'teenager' style. I have so much I want to do. I just wish time would pass by slowly. What types of things will you not be able to do once you get older? The things that I'm wearing and doing on stage right now. "Replay" was possible because we did it during that period. The things you can do during certain times, you have to do them so you won't have regrets. How does it feel to look at your face from your debut in 2008? I really think that I look better now than I did back then. Typical eighteen year olds don't live dealing with the reactions to their muscles or looks or the feeling of one's vocals. You've watched over yourself attentively for many years, how is it? Rather than being satisfied, I just like myself. I'm not so gorgeous, my body proportions aren't that amazing like a model's, I don't have the world's best voice, I'm not the best dancer. But you know, I just like myself? You must feel a thirst as well? Yes, a lot. When I ask "When you think of me, what comes to mind?" a lot of people don't really know. But no matter what it pertains to, when people say 'that's Key-like' it is quite comforting to hear… I think it's because I feel that there isn't enough time to only fixate on one thing right now. You once stated in an interview that you're the most curious about the ages of 28 and 70, right? At that point I would like to really be a pro. I don't know if I should use someone as an example. If I just say "I don't have anyone in particular whom I want to emulate" without an explanation I come off sounding bad-mannered. But really, what can I do when I actually don't have anyone like that? There isn't anyone whom I properly wish to emulate. Rather than thinking 'I'm the best' I just want to make something that is 'mine.' Even if I don't go about it calculatedly, I want to be a person who can do anything anyone throws at them. When you're on stage now, what do you feel the most urgent thirst towards? When I try to only do the things that I'm constantly thinking about. You have to prepare perfectly for it to come across as an ad-lib. A person who is really good will look like a pro no matter what they do on stage. For a person who isn't like that, no matter what they do on stage they will look like they're making mistakes. Everything is planned out beforehand. On stage I have to repeatedly think about it. I can't relax even a little bit of my anxiety. If I do, I could end up not being able to do what I'm supposed to. I could let something that would end up being a plus slip away. Michael Jackson said to not think about anything when you dance, right? That's his own story, for me I'm not at the stage where I can dance without any thoughts. In comparison to the other members, you appear to be finding enjoyment. To not appear as though someone told me to, I'm putting in effort to look like I'm enjoying it. I don't only sing songs I want to sing or only dance to the choreography I want to dance to, right? Because we're a team. Among the members who incites the most jealousy from you? There are times when we're all jealous of each others' strengths. He can do it, but I can't, when you think about it you may feel ashamed. I wonder, perhaps that greed is why many sunbaenims turn solo later on… Some member's songs, even one member's gag-like words and actions. Onew's gag-like words and actions? You could say that… When it comes to the songs, Jonghyun sings the most, right? Because that's where he has the most charm. When a kid who couldn't sing before begins to sing well I think, I want to take after that development. If you live here you see that the fragmentary images you see through the media isn't everything. What about you would the other members be jealous of? We haven't discussed this before. It would be faster to just ask the members. Knowingly or not we all would have felt something. When someone does something well, when they always continue to do well. I thought that there would definitely be feelings of competition, jealousy, anger among the five members of SHINee. Because during the age when you're the most sensitive you're dealing with rather sensitive matters. When you're feeling jealous or envious you come to resent that person. There are times when I dislike that situation. When someone simply wears prettier clothes? But you can't hate him for that. It's just to the degree of, 'Ah, I want to wear pretty clothes too.' Don't you feel like brothers now? We're not family, nor are we best friends. There really isn't a way to particularly explain it. I think the word 'member' is the most suitable. Somehow that comes off sounding a bit cold. I think that if we are too family-like that could become a problem. Because I would begin to think of the relationship rather than the person himself. We met each other in order to work, so I think it is most precise to say that we are 'people who continue to work together with loyalty.' It's not being cold. How long will that loyalty last? Considering you're not family or brothers. I would like for the members to not be swayed by words spoken by others who get caught in the middle or to become too relaxed in their own private thoughts. There's a reason why there are five of us. Though we each definitely have our own layers of fans, I think that it is more meaningful because we are 'SHINee.' The members probably feel the same way. Thus far, and also in the future. None of us seem like fools, so I think we will behave wisely. When you dressed up as women in the past, though you must have done it in part because you wanted to, it was also a strategic move, right? Though you did look pretty. We did it because we were told to. It was so different from what I thought it would be like. I had thought that we would go back to being focused on as the center and be given control… But since we did that at that point because we were told to, I think now we know a little bit about what's right and wrong. If they had let us go free to do what we wanted I really don't know what would have happened to us now. "Replay" was very straightforward. We saw SHINee's greed once again with "Ring Ding Dong," but with "Lucifer" right now, even with articles stating that "SHINee has returned as men," your fans are still the same, right? At that point no matter what we came out with nuna fans would have followed. We're truthfully not a team which guys find cool. "I don't understand why girls like them." We're one of the targets of those types of comments. I think it's natural and to be expected. Because we're not manly. Every time we come out with a new album, something we always hear the media say is, "they've become men." I think that if I were an outsider I wouldn’t really like SHINee that much either. Since we're just pretty. Haha. How about the songs? "Electric Heart" from this album… That's my best track. I really like our songs. I had thought that it would be good if this album was one that's worth buying. Nowadays, they have the title song and then they have some remix, track 2 is a different remix, track 3 is another remix, track 4 is an instrumental… Really, I disliked that so much. It feel so offensive, you know? It would be one thing if it was at least cheap. Our album has thirteen new songs. It's our best selling among all our album up until now. The public isn't stupid. Even if they aren't experts they will recognize if something is good. Although an expert can explain why something is good, for the public it's simply a matter of, I like it so I’ll buy it, even if they may not know precisely why it's good. I saw you take out the photo album and look through it as soon as you arrived at the studio. What about fashion excites you? Though it may sound a bit off for me to explain it this way, with clothes what you see is all there is to it. The fact that news has spread that I like clothes is also due to the fact that people can see the clothes with their own eyes. Honestly, I also like the fine arts and dancing. Why do you think your fans like you? Because I'm me. It’s simple. To me, there's a clear difference between the people who like me and the people who dislike me. For me, if you don't like it then you must dislike it. You're not conspicuous in a big way in SHINee. However there are times when the noises you make or your sense in moving your body flash and stand out. Like a bassist in a band. Do you have any greed? I like it perfectly. It doesn't become a burden. When people say that an idol has returned as a man, what do you think that "man" is? It's an obvious transformation, but I think that people say that they’re "manly" when they can't adjust. You like the present time the best, right? Whether you're young or not, a man or not. I'm happiest now, with everything that I'm doing. What I'm apprehensive of is when I think that I have to do something more because of work. I just hope that I won't think things like, 'If I sing better, won't people like me more?' I think about how I want to sing well because I actually want to sing well, not because of thoughts like 'If I sing well or dance well or rap well, they'll like me, right?' or 'I'll probably receive praise?' You understand what I'm saying, right? This must be why I don't get stressed. Singer. Are you going to pursue this for an entire lifetime? If people dislike me then I would have to stop, what else can I do? Should I, force these people… So that's why I'm most apprehensive of that time. That even though I have to make a clean break, due to lingering feelings I'll keep searching around for acts that people will like. Rather than being apprehensive I'm curious. Around when will this be? However, if people don't like me as a singer, then I have absolutely no intention of snooping around here and there doing promotions. Rather, I think I'd look for a different line of work. I've never spoken this deeply about it before. I think that I can come across as a rude and insolent kid if you cut out certain pieces in things I occasionally say. So I want to tell people that I hope no misunderstandings arise from whatever I do. That I'm not a bad guy. I hope that people recognize that in my train of thought I have my reasons, and that is why I come to certain conclusions. Do you think you'll have the opportunity to sing the song you love most on stage? I don't think I will. Because what you want to do and what you have to do are different things. Same, it's a really cynical, resigned-to-your-fate kind of answer. He seems much happier now and that probably has to do with the fact that he gets solo work now when he didn't get much back then.
