Well first of all, I'm religious so a relationship without marriage won't work if I wanted to have kids, live together etc..

 

but even if I wasn't, I guess it's just very beautiful because you reach your final state of relationship which imo is marriage. You and your partner are getting more connected?

it takes a lot to want to actually commit to someone by walking to/waiting at the end aisle 

and yeah you can get divorced but thats not a rash decision one makes unless one can really afford it.

it IS cheaper to keep your spouse - financially and emotionally. 

 

plus the thought of being someones wife for 17 years is wayyyyyyyyyyyy more appealing than being their girlfriend for 17 years.

I used to not see the appeal in it either until I fell in love, then it became more meaningful to me. I would want to show the world that they are mine, and I am theirs. To say to them, "I was born to love only you."

 

If my partner didn't want to get married, I'd be okay with it, though. As long as I'm the one who gets to hold them while they sleep and be the first person they greet "good morning"  to, I don't need anyone else's approval.

for the statement of commitment. I'm not religious and I don't like being the centre of attention so the ceremony itself isn't that important to me, but knowing someone loves me enough to state it lawfully would mean a lot.
