W is a former Hello! Project duo comprised of fourth generation Morning Musume members, Kago Ai and Tsuji Nozomi. The duo's name could also be read as Double U or Double You. The duo formed in 2004 and remained active until 2006, releasing a total of two albums and six singles.

 

 

 

 

 

W's formation was announced not long after the graduation of Kago and Tsuji from Morning Musume was announced in early 2004. At the time, the duo were simultaneously in both Morning Musume and one of its most popular sub-groups, Minimoni. Minimoni was about to be disbanded with the departure of Mika Todd, leaving Kago and Tsuji without any associated acts with which to perform. The decision to pair the two best friends together was made almost immediately and W was born.

 

 

 

 

 

Due to a series of numerous scandals by sub-leader Kago Ai, the group disbanded in 2007~

 

 

In 2019, they were announced as performing guests at Hello! Project's spring concert and were releasing their previously cancelled works, "Do ni mo Tomaranai" and W3: Faithful, on March 30 as digital releases; "Do ni mo Tomaranai" would be bundled as a double A-side single with "Choi Waru Devil." At Hello! Project's spring concert, the two performed together in front of a crowd of 5,000 people for the first time in 13 years.

Minimoni ja Movie: Okashi na DaibÅken! (ミニモニ。ã˜ã‚ƒ ムービー ãŠè“å­ãªå¤§å†’険!?) is a 2002 film directed by Shinji Higuchi. The film was done entirely in computer graphics with live actors inserted at the beginning and end of the film. The main purpose of the film is to tell the story of the change in Minimoni's lineup from first generation to second generation.

~FIRST GENERATION~

 

 

YAGUCHI MARI [LEADER] - Mari Yaguchi was the original leader of Minimoni, as the oldest (16 at the time), yet shortest member of the group. She was considered the most mature, yet humorously always at the distress of the youngest members’ antics (Kago and Tsuji). There are some rumors that Yaguchi was often genuinely annoyed by the two due to her frequently saying in interviews that it was difficult to make the two be quiet and listen to her. She was known for being very smart, loving English, but hating to study for it, and having a peculiar sense of humor. Her outfits were often similar to Kago’s and Tsuji’s, but had colors that made her stand out.

 

MIKA TODD - The tallest member at 150cms and only American member was half Japanese, half Australian and a member of Cocunuts Musume (Hawaiian Branch of Morning Musume)~ Mika was given the role as the English teacher of the group~ Being the tallest member, and at the height limit to be able to join Minimoni, Mika was known for wearing much different and more masculine outfits than the other group members, that typically were the colors of the American flag. This is because when she joined, Mari stated that once a member reached 150cm, their outfits would “turn blue" (the original outfits worn on their show, Minimoni Chiccha, were red while Mika’s was blue; subsequently, Minimoni’s outfits were typically bright red, yellow, and orange, while Mika’s would be red and blue) This created some controversy amongst fans who felt that Mika was being made to stand out for being American.

 

TSUJI NOZOMI - Rarely known for being apart from her “twin" Kago Ai, Nozomi Tsuji was the 2nd youngest member of the group. Known for having the biggest appetite and noticeable fangs, she was known for enjoying dancing, disliking having to learn English and being quite rambunctious. Her outfits usually were almost identical to Kago Ai’s, but she seemed to wear pants more often of the two.

 

KAGO AI - Also known mostly as a pair with Tsuji, Ai Kago was the youngest member of Minimoni with Tsuji (both 13 at the time). She also enjoyed eating and hated English, but seemingly more so than Tsuji. She was known as the cutest and most girly/feminine member for her styling, which almost always consisted of skirts or jumper dresses.
