Been hearing great reviews about Kubo (currently 96% on Rotten Tomatoes) but it ain't playing at our local movie theaters which sucks cos I won't be able to see it until, for like, next month.

I wanna hear your thoughts about it you guys tho. How was the voice acting (Mara, Theron, and McConaughey)? The animation? Storyline?

But seriously, the box-office result saddens me. If this was Pixar/Disney then y'all would be craving for it. Laika is one talented stop motion studio (Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls) so come on, everyone, give it some love.

Trailer for those who haven't seen it:

I really enjoyed it!

I was a bit disappointed at first to find out that the main vocal cast weren't of Japanese (or at least Asian) descent themselves, while several minor characters were (George Takei, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa). I know it's just voices in this instance as opposed to live-action roles that have been white-washed, but it still made me wonder.

That said, the vocal cast did great and the movie was truly beautiful both in terms of the animation and the story.  During the credits, they show off some of the puppetry utilized for one of the scenes. Very cool. It's easily one of the best animated films in recent years, but definitely not being appreciated at the box office.

I saw it last week. I thought it was sad but a really good movie. There were a lot of teens and adults in the theater than I expected. I don't usually care for Matthew McConaughey but I enjoyed his role. Charlize Theron on the other hand is one of my favorite actress, so I'm a little biased twards her lol. So after watching the movie I understand why they both were cast. They fit the roles perfectly.

Like OP said if this was Disney or had characters they could make money off of like the Minons this would have done better in the box office.
