Jungkook Slays All 63
I was middle of writing fanfiction about Taekook but then I got stuck about using Korean words in it. Would you find it awkward and weird if I put stuff like hyung and noona? I can't find any other words to replace this but I don't want to koreaboo my story. Advice? Btw, the story takes place in Korea, so they are speaking in Korean the whole time. Also if I write "Taehyung," when I add the suffix "hyung" does it become "Taehyung hyung." That sounds really weird though. HELPPPP
Hello Bubble 235
Fanfic is already awkward on itself, so if you can get past that and enjoy it, few korean words won't mean anything, go for it

ToriTore 619
Why that be awkward? It would only make sense to use it in writings like these, I think. Especially if what you're writing takes place in Korea

FloralPastel 393
Yeah, it wouldn't throw me off personally if it was really well written. lol Yes, it becomes, "Taehyung hyung." I thought it sounded weird too and I actually had to watch and replay videos of Jungkook saying it to make sure lol he just says it really fast. Mogwai 15,203
Using honorific in fic isn't so bad since it's ingrained in their culture and it'd pretty weird to translate in English anyway. But don't go overboard though or it'll get needlessly repetitive. Other than that use English if you're going to write in English.

glasses 3,143
GOD YES, forgive the rambling about grammar but: I think the use of honorifics is fine, I actually think it's kinda awkward when an author doesn't use it... they start sounding American. Also it indicates closeness between the characters which is always nice. However, they need to make sure it's used right. Like "Taehyung hyung" sounds awkward that's why Jungkook calls Tae "Taehyungie hyung" irl too. There's also the use of -ah. A lot of authors don't get that it's only used when you are directly calling someone. You can't say "Give Taehyung-ah his milk." But nothing can be as bad as old Naruto fanfics I read, where the author used "For Kami's sake" AS IF THE WORD "GOD" DOESN'T EXIST IN ENGLISH??? 웃꽃 212
honorifics are fine but please don't put romanization. i cringe when ever "annyeong~ xD", "kamsahamnida!!!", or "saranghaeyo~~" gets added in.
dbellvm 766
well i think all those hyungs, noonas, oppas, and honorifics and -ah in the end of the name can be easily avoided, so why use them
