Anyone took an online class?

I don't think it's technically harder but I find it a lot harder to focus when it is all online.

I have taken 3 so far and will be taking one in the spring semester.

If you like learning the most by teacher interactions, then yes, it could be harder.

Otherwise, the hardest part imo, is focusing.

Online classes can be harder because they require more reading and learning on your own. I took a couple irrelevant classes online and found that I had to read a lot more, whereas if I'd taken the class in a classroom setting, I probably would have rarely had to open my book.

Also, it's easier to procrastinate with online classes, so you should stay on top of things in that regard.

I took one class where all the quizzes and assignments were open the entire semester. You could do them whenever you wanted as long as they were turned in before the final. A lot of people procrastinated and had millions of assignments to do right before the final.

I've taken many online classes and I generally like them. Some of them have been difficult but others have been beyond easy. It really depends on the subject/professor. It requires a lot of self-discipline though. You have to force yourself to make time for the class and dedicate however much time you need to in order to get the work done. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has difficulty in remembering deadlines or reminding themselves to do school work because online classes require you to be very diligent and not slack off or you'll get behind.

It depends on you as a student. I don't take online classes for some things when  I know I might need an in-person prof to show me things. If you're going to try it out I recommend trying it out on an "easier" class for you whatever that may be.  If it's something more difficult for you I wouldn't take it. I've enjoyed the online classes I've taken. I don't feel so rushed with the work most of the time.  I took Spanish both in class and online and I did better online because you knew exactly what to do and what to expect etc and I didn't feel so rushed so it can be a good experience just depending.

It depends...if it's just for college credits then it's ok..but if your trying to get some kind of cerification workplaces kind of frown upon online classes. My friend got some kind of dyalysis certificate from online training classes..he said it was worthless, employers didn't recognize it,he had to get his cert from a school

An online class is great when you have the absolute motivation for it, and you don't have time for regular classes. Otherwise, you'd just be flushing money down the drain because it is harder to maintain motivation for online classes, than physical classes. Some people might find it easier to concentrate though. It depends on the individual.

I took French online and compared to a coursework of a regular classroom, it wasn't hard at all. The only thing that you need to keep in mind is procrastination. In the beginning, the excitement of an online class will get you through the first couple of weeks, but later the procrastination starts to kick in. As long as you stay motivated and not procrastinate, you can do well.

I've taken about 4 online classes and most were pretty great.

It really just depends on the teacher though. I got A's in all of my classes with the exception of one, because my teacher sucked. She kind of just set everything, the assignments, memo's etc., up without ever really telling us about the assignments so it was really up to us to know what we had to do, and when to turn everything in and she never even graded anything so that was kind of hard. You never really knew if what you were turning in was what she wanted or not so it sucked.

Anyway, it depends on your teacher. So ask around or look at the ratemyprofessor website stuff and see what people think about the class that you want rather than just going into the class blindly.

I take online classes (for now until I transfer colleges). I don't think it's all that bad.

For me personally, I rather take something like English and history online. Math and science is something I sort of struggle with depending on the topic and I would rather be in a classroom for those classes. u.u

You also have to have motivation and be focused if you want to do online classes. If you're distracted every other minute when you're on the computer, I think it's best to stick to on campus classes. >< And like what some others said, it also depends on the teacher. Ask students who had the teacher before to get their opinion on them. ^^

I've taken calculus 3 online and I loved it but it really depends on your study style. I prefer being independent and flexible with my schedule and I rather learn at my own pace. Procrastination really does become a real problem because studying the material is largely at your own discretion but I managed because i really stuck at it rigorously (it also helped that I absolutely loved the subject) Also, the structure of the class was fantastic.  The professor would have a video lecture twice a week but u only need to attend one because it's only rly so that online students can choose between times.  and the video lecture was also recorded so I can always look back on the notes whenever I want.  Also my professor was so amazing. there's really a lot of factors like those u need to consider but i think it's largely depends on your own personal learning and study styles.

this past semester i took soc, psy, and eng all online.

all the read the book and answer the question classes - except for English because i had to write essays.

for me the hardest part, was not missing due dates!

i work 40+ hours in a call center environment so times i would either miss the assignment.

my soc had the best idea - instead of weekly due dates

everything had to be uploaded by semester end - which worked for me perfectly!!!

i would never take any science or math online.

my recommendation - only take online classes if you have a sense of time management and you can priorities. don't wait til the last minute to do your assignments...generally speaking online professor aren't as forgiving with deadlines because you know weeks in advance when everything is due.

Online classes are complete shit. They're also easy to forget. As a student with a science major, I tend to focus on my math and science classes a lot and if I have an online class, it usually gets ignored by me until there are exam times. The only online classes I enjoyed are ones that have weekly quizzes and modules because they really force you to take the class seriously.

I've taken a few online classes... and I think it really depends on the teacher. Some teachers go easier on their online classes because they can't do things like presentations, projects, and closed-book tests over the internet. However some can make it more difficult, I once had a teacher that made us write 5-7 page papers every single week x_x

It can also be harder in the sense that you really have to stay on top of it yourself... its really easy to suddenly notice you've gone a week without checking the site
