High School Language/Computer Reqs?

So my sister had her first day of school today and she absolutely detests Spanish. She's in Spanish 3 right now but understands none of it since the entire class is just speaking in spanish and they've signed a form to conversate in spanish for majority of the time - and her skills aren't advanced enough. So she knows she won't do well. problem is, since school's started, switching into another elective is a task in itself.

However, what she is questioning is the graduation requirements. Most colleges require 2 units of the same foreign language or computer class. Would that count if she's taken Spanish I in middle school and Spanish II her freshman year? Or would they have only counted Spanish II and now she has to fulfill the credits by taking another language for 2 years or computer classes? :S

She's in 10th grade for reference. My dad is another piece of work she'll have to manage. He knows she detests Spanish but no other elective "satisfied" him so she defaulted to taking Spanish III. Originally he had let her choose any elective, but as stated, idk what else he would want her to do. Her counselor is believably stressed about this as well, but at the same time, the counselor kinda just ignored her comments at one point and told her to just choose another elective and bring it back to her on Monday to see if they can get her in. She wasn't told what electives were still available, so I'm unsure if she'll even be able to switch at all given that she was a transfer student whose things were processed late anyway as well as the fact that a lot of electives are probably already full.

My sister 100% believes she will not pass Spanish 3 with her current skills and she wouldn't be able to enjoy the class anyway even if she did like Spanish because she can't understand most of what is being said. I'm kinda worried for her cause I want her to enjoy her high school life to a degree and with my parent's wishes thrown in, this is just a big mess right now.

tl;dr - would her 1 year of spanish in middle school count towards her graduation requirements or would it only be filled by taking spanish 3/taking another language for two years or computer classes?

And for reference I'm not too sure myself because I had taken Latin throughout high school so those units were never a big worry for me in the first place, so that's why I'm a bit unsure....

If that's the case then I don't think she needs Spanish 3. Something similar happened to me. I thought I had to take science my senior year because of the whole colleges like 4 years of science thing. 2 weeks after I started the class my counselor decided to tell me that because I took a high school level science class in 8th grade, I don't need to take a science class my senior year. So I just switched out and enjoyed my English and science free senior year

I'm not too sure but I assume yes? Cause she did Spanish 2 just fine Freshman year but that was when she grew an ardent hate against it

I forgot to quote you above

oh wow that's awesome! thanks for the help! She's gonna ask the counselor to be sure anyway but this does help ease the burden a bit if she's able to pick an elective she really wants

Well in my school, there isn't even a language requirement, but people usually take at least three years of language for the sake of getting a higher education.

Also, while in my middle school system, three years of language counts as one high school year, they won't count your middle school years for credit.

I think that part depends on the system, but mine won't count middle school for shit.
