lol, why do people act like most of kpop's target audience isn't already middle schoolers?

with the members of nct's upcoming unit being revealed to have an average age of 15.6 or something, i've been seeing people saying a lot of negative things about their ages. but i don't really get it because they're entering a market where the target audience is people their own age anyway. isn't it creepier for grown men and women to try to mold themselves to fit the tastes of korean youth than it is for younger kids to naturally appeal to their own generation?

opinions?

It's obvious SM will be gearing the group concept's to suit the younger generation, y'know gotta cultivate the fanbase as early and young as you can. I'm curious if NCT Dream will be debuting in Korea or China now that the chinese member has been revealed. I could see them having some success in China due since China has a young boy group as well (TF Boys)

I see people talking about how young they are / child laws and being overworked

And then y'know, some people wanna make kpop super sexual so they're all like "wait I can't make this sexual, what do I do?"

The greater issue is the potential abuses involved. Many companies already treat their artists almost like slaves. Add that to the fact that some of the ages are creeping so low, and you get a real child labor problem on your hands. In short, I don't like it that giant corporations control every move of a group of twenty-somethings, but they are adults and can make their own decision. Are minors able to properly weigh the pros and cons of being the human equivalent of livestock. I'm tempted to say no.

Yeah they're all older than me except for Jisung. I can understand qualms about overworking minors and things like that (because they're valid) but people are just dismissing/hating them for no reason and saying it's "weird" and "they're not here for this" and I'm like great???? No need for that unnecessary negativity TBH. Or saying shit like pedo bait etc like wtf not everything has to be sexualised.

I believe you can still enjoy a group if they're younger than you lol but if it's weird then just pass on it nbd

The concept is fun and vibrant and they obviously have the talent

That's a valid point. But it seems like most of the complaints were stemming from people not wanting to be noona fans or not wanting to feel 'predatory.'

first of all, it is creepy

also i guess its bc u see mostly adults/older teens in the concept of groups and being idols, so its kind of new for really young kids to debut, esp since nct dream's oldest is 17

even tho there were a lot of idols that debuted young, they were often the maknae in their groups

boa was an exception with t a l e n t, and i think there are similarities in the reasons why sm are choosing to debut nct dream
