[QUESTION] Atheist, how do you cope?

When something traumatic happens in your life, before and after, how do you deal with it/prepare for it?

Do you just tell yourself things will get better and is telling yourself that enough to get past it? What motivates you to keep going on when "shit happens"?

By being an adult and dealing with my problems until they are solved instead of hiding behind empty words and useless prayers.

You don't have to bring down anyone else's way of coping to justify your own. This question is for atheist and atheists only. Be respectful.

when shit happens we deal with it and find a solution, just like normal people do.

Exactly. The only in between here is that a lot of people pray, deal with it, then look for a solution. We just skip the praying part. If you consider it, very little changes in between prayer and action other than some sort of assurance but in the end, you pretty much cope and find a solution yourself..

I just look at all the people around me and think of all the wonderful, tangible things in my life that I have to live for.

It's not always easy and I definitely have "what is the damn point" moments, but I know I'm young and have a lot ahead of me.

I've had a lot of low points and am in a bit of a slump as I type this, but I get strength from knowing I've dragged myself out of difficult times before.
