For those of you don't know but South Korea will be hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics.

My question is whether or not you think any kpop acts/singers will play a role in the opening ceremony. Kpop is a big part of Korea's tourism. Granted kpop fans and their culture behind it are often really embarrassing to Korea.

Do you think SNSD, Big Bang, EXO, Psy or possible another group/act will appear during the opening ceremony??

Yes, of course. Countries almost always have a pop act in their opening ceremony.

3/5 of Big Bang will be serving in the military in early 2018.

I feel like they'd invite veteran singers over kpop idols......

But the government could still invite them to sing at the opening games. I agree though they might just invite veteran singers.

I know the Korean government invests a lot in Kpop but at the same time these games are an opportunity to broadcast your country and I'm not sure if Kpop would actually be well received by the participating countries as it's still more of a niche in a way.

I mean I don't think Great Britain would ever invite One Direction to one of their opening ceremonies (for the Olympic Games or others).

Oh I stand corrected One Direction actually performed at the Olympics.. never mind then. They'll probably have a Kpop act. Probably Big Bang or maybe Psy since people already somewhat know about him. Or EXO?!

If Big Bang is there they'll get invited. If some are in the military they will invite the members that are still left

Psy will probably be there

But I highly doubt they will invite anymore, given how some see it negatively

Look at what happened when someone suggested AKB48 for the tokyo olympics

yes 100% and these groups might open the ceremony!

Bigbang

Bts

Exo

Snsd

Twice

Ikon

Black Pink

PSY(solo)

Ok, lets keep the delusion level low in this thread. The opening ceremony is only about 2 hours long once you minus out commercials and the parade of athletes. A good portion of the ceremony is dedicated to showcasing the country's history and achievements throughout the year. As well as highlighting major global issues such as racism and environmental problems. What you listed is a full concert that would last hours. On top of that you listed a couple of rookies too. I tagged the groups who have established histories in Korea.

If kpop was included in the ceremony it would only be for a couple of minutes at the most. So probably one or two acts.

People lost their shit over AKB48. It was actually hilarious.

I don't expect to see any acts in the opening ceremony, however the ending ceremony is a whole nother story.
